Marie Denais honored as a centenarian
City of Crowley Mayor Greg Jones proclaims February 25, 2010 as Marie B. Denais Day in honor of Mrs. Denais’s 100th birthday.
According to Mayor Jones, “Marie has reached a major milestone in her life and is deserving of special recognition by the citizens of the City of Crowley, for her many individual contributions to the community.”
Denais was born in Maurice on February 25, 1910 and has been a citizen of Crowley since 1948.
Mayor Jones explained, “the longevity of life is a blessing to an individual and to a community by providing an opportunity for an investment of knowledge, creativity, and experience for all.”
Denais and her first husband, the late Alcee Hebert, were blessed with three children, Elmo (Bernida) Hebert, Laura H. (Wilton) Thibodeaux, and John (Mabel) Hebert; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 39 great-great grandchildren. She is also proud of her five step-children and numerous step-grandchildren that she shares with her husband Joseph Denais.
Mayor Jones expressed that, “during her long and productive lifetime, Marie has earned the respect and admiration of her family and friends and wishes to extending sincere congratulations and best wishes and urge the citizens of Crowley to pay special tribute to this special member of our community.”
Denais will be honored by friends and relatives on the occasion of her 100th birthday during a celebration on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the home of her great grandson, David Breaux, in Mermentau.
