Marijuana found, one charged

Authorities located marijuana Wednesday morning, March 4, after information was received by Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Dupre said he contacted the Ville Platte Police Department after learning Steven Vidrine, 44, 125 Cotton Gin Loop, Ville Platte, was in possession of individual bags of marijuana. Vidrine was parked in his truck near the courthouse. Authorities stopped him and allegedly discovered four individual bags of marijuana and a scale in Vidrine’s vehicle and a bag of marijuana on him.
Dupre said a search of Vidrine’s home in the Point Blue area led to authorities confiscating a quarter-pound of marijuana.
As a result of this information and the location of narcotics in Ville Platte, the case was turned over to the Ville Platte Police Department and the two detectives assisting Dupre; Sgt. Joey “Plywood” Fontenot and Ervin “Chip” Pitre.
Pitre said Vidrine has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both agencies encouraged residents to report suspected illegal activities. Sheriff Eddie Soileau and Police Chief Neal Lartigue said all callers will remain anonymous.
