Marion Joseph Stelly
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Marion Joseph Stelly, age 77, who passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 7:45 p.m. at Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Andre Metrojean, pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Stelly was a native of Carencro, where he lived most of his life. He was enlisted with the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1959, where he served in the Medic division. He was self-employed as a residential contractor until his retirement in 2002. Mr. Stelly was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro, where he was a member of the Bonne Mort Society. He loved Cajun music, singing and playing the accordion and drums. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved football and baseball.
Survivors include his former wife and the mother of his children, Dorothy P. "Dot" Stelly of Scott; two sons, Brian A. Stelly and his wife, Janice, of Houston, TX, Perry L. Stelly of Scott; three daughters, Lynn S. Credeur and husband, Roland, Dianne S. Besse and husband, Peter, and Alane S. Gary and husband, Blake, all of Mire; six grandchildren, Jamie C. Gary, Blaine J. Gary and wife, Allison, Claire C. Hammonds and husband, Jeff, Lauren E. Dore and husband, Aaron, Derek J. Stelly and fiancée, Lindsey Grissom and Jonathan P. Besse and fiancée, Katelyn Kelley; four great grandchildren, Elliot Dore, Camille Dore, Charlotte Dore and Avery Gary; and a special friend, Nell Rider of Ville Platte.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eli Stelly; his mother, Alma Bowie Stelly Dugas; his stepfather, Valerie Dugas; and two sisters, Ella Mae Stelly Brock and Hazel Stelly Gary.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Derek Stelly, Blaine Gary, Jonathan Besse, Roland Credeur, Peter Besse and Blake Gary. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Dore, Jeffrey Hammonds, Andrew Bowie and Don Stelly.
