Josephine Levy, a resident and community leader of Abbeville was selected to reign as Grand Marshal for the MLK, Jr. Day parade. Levy was chosen from among a long list of other potential candidates. To Levy this is another great honor that she accepts and can reflect back on. An old familiar saying is “give me my flowers so that I may smell them now.”
The selection committee selected Josephine “Jo” Levy because of her dedication to youth, young mothers, her church and her community involvement to name a few.
Levy kindness has touched many lives, related and unrelated. Levy will have the honor of smelling her flowers on Monday as she reign for the 11th MLK, Jr. Day parade for Herod Villiage, Inc. and Vermilon Parish.
Levy credits her strength and all accomplishments in her life to God.
Her past history involvements to name a few include the Vermilion Parish Democratic Executive Committee, member of court appointed Bi-racial Committee for Parish, member of advisory committee for City of Abbeville Housing Program, Representative of Parish Police Jury for Governors Council on tourism, CASA volunteer, Commissioner for Abbeville Housing Authority, Trustee and Parish Council at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Herod Athletic Booster Club, Founder and President of Our Lady of Lourdes PTA.
Her present involvements include, but are not limited with Chairperson of MLK Civic Organization, Lay Minister and Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Notary, and Board of Commissioner at Abbeville General Hospital.
