Mary Grace Pete Scholarship awarded to Crowley High graduate
CROWLEY - The Mary Grace Pete Scholarship for 2010 was proudly awarded to Mandy Maria Burke, a Crowley High graduate of 2010.
Mandy is the daughter of Rachel and Robert L. Burke of Crowley. In August, she will enroll at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette to pursue a degree in nursing.
She was an asset to her school, church, community and Acadiana. She participated in cross country, power lifting, softball, volleyball and track while at Crowley High. Mandy’s honors and awards included academic excellence for maintaining all A’s in the fields of math, science, social studies and reading; induction into the National Honor Society; treasurer of the National Honor Society; vice president of her sophomore class; local finalist in science fair and Varsity C award for lettering in volleyball, softball, cross country and track.
She is a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and regularly attends St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Crowley.
Mandy has also volunteered in the areas of recreation, at MDA fund raisers and at the Harvest Fair.
The Mary Grace Pete Scholarship was founded by Mrs. Pete’s son, the late Dr. J. Allen Pete, Jr. and administered by the Memorial Education Foundation, Inc., which is a non-profit corporation and located at 620 N. M L King Jr Dr. in Eunice.
