CROWLEY – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church from Matthew Raymond Arnold, 26, who died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in Picayune, Mississippi in a accident.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Matthew, a native of Crowley, enjoyed the outdoors, spending much of his life hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was passionate about aviation, both as a pilot and in his studies in avionics. Matthew’s personal charm warmed the hearts of most of those who met him. His unique wit left those close to him smiling and laughing. Matthew will be remembered for his glowing smile, wonderful sense of humor, friendly disposition, and zeal for life. He may be gone but is certainly not forgotten.
Survivors include his parents, Mark and Debbie Ortego Arnold of Crowley; two brothers, Nicholas Arnold and his wife Robin of New Orleans, Patrick Arnold of Baton Rouge; maternal grandparents, Sidney and Patsy Ortego of Ville Platte; paternal grandmother, Sue W. Arnold of Alexandria; paternal great-grandmother, Rena P. Roberson of Alexandria; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, The Rev. Tracy Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations by made to Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen or Hospice of Acadiana.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
