Matthews arrested for home invasion incident
CROWLEY – Crowley Police have arrested a convicted sex offender for a home invasion incident which occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
The incident occurred in the northwest area of Crowley.
“We were notified this morning by a home owner that someone was in the process of breaking into their residence at 2 a.m. The resident placed themselves in a safe location and called 911” said Chief of Police KP Gibson.
Officers arrived on scene and were able to locate the suspect inside of the residence and arrest him.
“The home owner reacted in a manner which helped avoid conflict with the suspect and prevented a really bad incident from occurring,” said Gibson.
Prior to this incident, Matthews’ and other companions have been soliciting for yard work with the victim and possibly others in the area.
“We want to encourage our citizens to be cautious when hiring unknown persons for yard work or small jobs around the house, especially when they are the persons soliciting the work. This could lead to thefts or greater crimes occurring,” said Gibson.
The suspect, identified as Michael Renee Matthews, 47. Matthews list his current home address in Crowley however has an arrest record which shows that he has resided in various areas of Louisiana.
“Matthews has an extended criminal history and is currently a registered sex offender. Matthews has been charged and convicted in the past with rape, burglary and attempted murder,” said Gibson. “Matthews has been charged with home invasion and our agency has notified Probation and Parole officials of Matthews’ arrest. A hold for violation of parole is being completed.”
