Mayer designs cotton shirts
The theme of the Cotton Festival this year is “Celebrate the Magic of Cotton and Ville Platte” in recognition of Ville Platte’s 150th birthday.
The city’s 100th birthday also was held in conjunction with the festival. Amanda Drummond Mayer, an employee at Ville Platte’s city hall, designed the shirt this year. After learning of the theme, she said Disney inspired her. She enjoyed doing this shirt just as much as the one she did in the past. Mayer also designed the festival shirt 10 years ago when she was an employee with The Ville Platte Gazette. Mayer has been drawing since she was 12 years old. You can see her work on her “Wall of Art” at her desk at city hall. In the photo of Mayer's drawings, you might recognize Senator Mary Landrieu’s face in the center of the drawings or Mayor Bill Jeanmard to the right. You can also see the color portrait of one of her drawings and the black and white drawing next to it. Her co-workers said she is very talented.
