Mayor lists accomplishment for fiscal year

With the City of Kaplan’s annual audit complete, Mayor Linda Hardee has released a list of all the city has accomplished in its fiscal year.

•Completed Phase II of LCDBG Street Improvements in the east side.

•Completed Phase III of Street Improvement in the west side paid for by City of Kaplan in the amount of $104,932.58

•Paid off two loans that the city has had in the amount of $895,429.71.

•Completed renovations to the Boy Scout Building.

•Purchased new equipment for the Streets & Bridges Dept. - a new grade all and a roller in the amount of $2215.98 being paid in monthly installments.

•Demolished the old Senior Citizen building.

•Sent out 39 letters requesting citizens to clean up property, get rid of old vehicles, or demolish eyesore buildings thus improving property values in Kaplan and cleaning up our neighborhoods

•Signed an intergovernmental agreement with the VPPJ to make further street improvements in the City of Kaplan in the amount of $120,000.

•Did maintenance work on electrical lines and replaced rotten poles.

•Gave employees raise of 70 cents per hour and advanced minimum wage amount to $7.25 per hour.

•Applied for Capital Outlay funding for a new Kaplan Fire Department complex in the amount of $450,000.

•Received cooperative endeavor agreement for $145,000 from State Appropriations for Kaplan Fire Department.

•Paid city portion of $30,000 for inter-governmental agreement with VPPJ to purchase new fire engine in the amount of $244,547.

•Beautification committee supervised the planting of 75 knock out rose bushes on Cushing Boulevard donated by Joel Howard.

•Kaplan Museum Committee wrote grants and were awarded the traveling Smithsonian Exhibit entitled “New Harmonies” - Celebrating American Roots Music”, exhibited the artistic works of five area artists and had 17 community activities in conjunction with the exhibit.

•Chamber of Commerce held grand openings of seven businesses.

•Improvements made to Water Plant in the amount of $39,000.

•Completed intergovernmental agreement with VPPJ to overlay Klaby Meaux Road in the amount of $13,000 - city portion was $5600.

•Completed installation of east and west side park equipment.

•Had first official flag for the City of Kaplan drawn by Klaby Meaux and had Josh Gallet design the first official banner for the city displayed on Cushing Avenue.
