McNeese's Ashlyn Baggett named LSWA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State sophomore guard Ashlyn Baggett was named this week's Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Cowgirls get off to their best overall record (11-5) and Southland Conference record (3-0) in the past 12 years.
Baggett, a native of Iota, La. helped the Cowgirls to Southland Conference road wins at preseason favorite and the reigning regular season and SLC Tournament champions Lamar last Wednesday and most recently a Texas State last Saturday.
Baggett led all players in scoring in both games with 21 points against Lamar and a career high 26 at Texas State. In the win against Lamar, she scored her last six points from the free throw line and ended the game making 10 of 14 for the game. In the win at Texas State, Baggett also led all players with four assists and was credited with two steals. She averaged 23.5 ppg., 2.0 rpg., 2.5 apg. and 1.5 spg. last week. She now has scored in double figures in 13 of the Cowgirls' 16 games and has scored 20 or more points in seven games.
