CROWLEY – Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon was sworn in for his second term Friday afternoon during a ceremony at the Acadia Parish courthouse.

Dozens of Melancon’s family, friends, coworkers, and constituents packed the fifth floor courtroom to see Melancon sworn in by Judge Kristian Earles.

Acadia Parish Clerk of Court Robby Barousse welcomed those in attendance and praised the work that Melancon and his department had done for the parish.

“You just can’t ask for a better working relationship than we’ve had between the different agencies in this parish,” he said. “Wayne has been a vital part of these relationships.”

Barousse also had another suggestion for Melancon.

“Seeing as how the judge is here it may be a good time for you and Charlene (Melancon’s wife of 32 years) to renew your vows,” he joked drawing laughter from the audience.

District Attorney Mike Harson also praised the working relationship his office had with the Sheriff’s department.

“It’s been a real pleasure working with Wayne for the past four years,” Harson said. “He knows that if he needs anything from my department he’s got it and he’s always been there for us as well.”

After being sworn in by Judge Earles and receiving a standing ovation, Melancon addressed the audience.

“I want to thank Charlene, my entire family, the officers I have the pleasure to work with, and the people of Acadia parish,” he said. “I promise that I will continue to serve our parish to the best of my ability and continue to make Acadia Parish a safer place.”
