Melancon takes Breast Cancer 3-Day challenge

Can you imagine a world without breast cancer? It’s hard, given how pervasive the disease is.

Timmie Melancon, a Kaplan High School teacher, is doing her part to help eliminate it by taking on an incredible challenge.

On Nov. 7-9, she will be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women taking part in the journey with her.

This event is called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

“Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant,” said Melancon.”

“They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2200 to help bring us closer to that goal.”

Melancon’s mother was diagnosed early with breast cancer and because of research and treatment, she was able to fight the disease.

“Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said. “That is why I am walking and dedicating this challenge to my mom, fellow teachers, students and their families who have been touched by this dreaded disease.”

Timmie is asking for everyone to consider making a donation by going to Click on Donate Now and search for her personal page. She is also asking that employers double the donation with a matching gift
