Members of 256th will be home in time for holidays

Members of the 256th infantry brigade combat team will be returning home to Louisiana during the next few weeks.

In January, the state unit known as the Tiger Brigade deployed approximately 3,000 troops to Iraq as it began its second tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Some members of the brigade have already started arriving back at Camp Shelby in Mississippi where they will go through demobilization training.

The entire unit will be arriving home in waves over the next few weeks. All members are expected to be home by Christmas

Six guard members of the 256th have already returned to the state and were welcomed home from Iraq at Fort Humbug in Shreveport. They arrived around 2 p.m. Sunday to be greeted by friends and family. The group was the first contingent of hundreds of soldiers who will return through the month.
