Men Who Cook offer up a taste of Richland

Food lovers from throughout Richland Parish will gather at the home of Timmie Ray and Darla Thames this weekend to provide residents with “A Taste of Richland by Men Who Cook.”

The fund raiser is sponsored by the Richland Arts Council and will get underway at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Thames home at 985 Mengal Road in Rayville.

This year’s even is being held in memory of Ollie Faye Smith to honor her years of service to the arts council and the community.

The event brings together more than 30 men from throughout the community who will showcase their favorite recipes ranging from cheesecake to pork tenderloin. The menu for the evening is truly expected to provide something for everyone while raising money to support arts in Richland Parish and area beautification. About 270 people attended last year’s event.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. They may be purchased from any arts council member or at BancorpSouth and Rayville High School.

“The Richland Arts Council relies heavily on this even to support our efforts to help the schools and improve and beautify our community,” Wayne Hopper said. “This is our only fund raising event and it is of vital importance to insure the funding of these projects and others that may be conceived for this upcoming year.”

Hopper explained the Richland Arts Council receives a Decentralized Art Fund Grant each year and also earns some funding from charitable bingo. However, the funds received from those sources are tightly regulated and can only be used for certain purposes.

“”Men Who Cook is the event that allows us to donate to different causes, maintain current art parks in the community and use funds in any way we see fit to benefit our citizens in their endeavors,” Hopper said.
