Menard attends USA Wrestling Nationals
Adam Menard, a senior at Rayne High School and a two-time state wrestling champion went on to compete in the 2011 USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, against some of the nations best.
As part of Team Louisiana, Adam competed in the 145 lbs. weight class which consisted of 46 competitors from different parts of the country in hopes of becoming an All-American. All American is achieved by any wrestler finishing in the Top 8 of their respective weight class.
Adam finished with an overall record of 5-2 and earned 7th place among all competitors therefore making him Rayne High’s first wrestling All-American.
Adam’s first match against Matt Wrick (PENN Wrestling Club, Indiana) was a victory due to technical fall 16-1. He then dominated his next two competitors Myrel Schermerhorn (MN Storm Wrestling Club, Minnesota) pinning him in 5:59 and Gabe Flandrick (Victory School Wrestling Club, Wisconsin) pinning him in 4:00. Adam’s fourth match was a close call against Zach Friederick (Team Lonsdale Wrestling Club, Minnesota); he lost by one point, decision 5-4. His next match was against Gavin Larsen (Chaska Wrestling Club, Minnesota) in which he won by decision 6-1. In another tough match against Garrett Hathaway (Trojan Wrestling Club, Iowa) Adam lost by decision 7-2.
In his final match, Adam’s hard work and determination paid off as he won against Lucas Lambrecht (World Class Wrestling Club, Wisconsin) by decision 4-2.
Adam would like to thank his parents (Lisa and James Menard), his high school coaches (Coach Chevalier, Coach Credeur, and Coach Bergeron), his team Louisiana coach (Coach Macha), his fellow wrestling teammates, and the Rayne Booster Club for making his high school career a success.
