Menard to fight for title
By Chris Quebedeaux
RAYNE – For the first time in Rayne boxing history, the city will play host to a title fight.
Rock Hard “Mighty” Mason Menard will embark upon an endeavor to become the Louisiana Lightweight Champion Thursday evening at the Rayne Civic Center when he squares off against Shreveport’s John Temple for the vacant title in the main event of a card dubbed Rockin’ in Rayne.
The title fight is slated for eight rounds.
“If we go back and look at all the world champions, 90 percent of them began their quest by winning a state title in their home state,” said Bad Chad Broussard, who is promoting the card. “The magnitude of this fight is so big. I hope everyone is able to see exactly what I see.
“This will definitely be a real test for Mason to see how far he has come along.”
Joining Menard on the six-fight card will be fellow Rayne native and amateur standout Todd Manuel, who will be making his professional debut.
Also slated for the card is fan favorite Jarred LeBlanc as well as Jessie Patin, Josh Joseph, Thomas Davis, John Revish and Bobby Bryant.
The first fight of the evening will begin at 7 o’clock and there will be no breaks or intermissions.
Tickets are $20 per person for general admission and can be purchased at Red’s, Planet Nutrition and Cajun Fitness or online at www.boxncar.com.
