Menard will seek 10-mill, 10-year road tax

Parish President Don Menard will ask the Parish Council to propose consolidating several road taxing districts into one and asking for a 10-mill property tax to finance road improvements.

The 10-year tax would generate $3 million a year in unincorporated areas of the parish and allow bonding that would fund an immediate construction program.

Menard previewed his plan while introducing his proposed 2008 budget at a special meeting on Thursday night.

The $13.2 million document is an ultra-conservative plan, featuring overall standstill spending and an average 7 percent hedge in revenue estimates.

Council members commended Menard and staff members Jessie Bellard and Francine Sias for the thorough budget preparation and explanation.
