MERMENTAU – During a recent solemn ceremony at Mermentau Elementary, students, faculty, and appreciative parents were on hand to honor former Mermentau teacher Annette LeBlanc. LeBlanc passed away recently following a fight against cancer. A sign constructed in front of the school was dedicated to her honor.

Principal Melvin Smith spoke of his warm memories of LeBlanc, calling her a “complete teacher” who exemplified what the principles of education stood for. A couple of her former students also fondly remembered their days in LeBlanc’s class.

LeBlanc’s children, Kaylee and Reilly, cut the ribbon of the new sign which read “Mermentau Elementary - Home of the Indians”. A plaque will be placed on the new sign dedicating it to LeBlanc’s memory.
