Services were held Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Rayne, Louisiana for Mervin Joseph Rourk, 79, who died Sunday, November 9, 2008, at his home in Rayne. Father Bill Ruskoski officiated the services.
A rosary was held Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at 7 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation was observed Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne.
Mr. Rourk was a lifelong resident of Rayne and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Rourk is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thelma Rourk of Rayne, La.; one son; Michael and wife Doreen Rourk of Rayne, La.; two daughters, Becky and husband Michael Burnett and Dale and husband Kenneth Meche, both of Rayne, La.; two brothers, Burney Rourk of Sulphur, La. and Vernon Rourk of Scott, La.; three sisters, Dorothy Prudomme of Lafayette, La., Olesia Smith of Rayne, La., and Sybil Nickel and brother-in-law Milo of Crowley, La; and four grandsons, Robert Fontenot, Matthew Rourke, and Clayton Burnett, all of Rayne, La. and Corey Rourk of Cookeville,
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Rourk; one grandson, Alex Burnett; his parents, Elise Cormier Rourk and Martin Rourk; and one brother; Pauvin Rourk.
Pallbearers for the service were Mr. Rourk’s grandsons, Robert Fontenot, Matthew Rourk, Clayton Burnett, Corey Rourk, and godchildren, Ronnie Prudhomme and Charles Whitehead.
Rourk’s godchild, Brandon Porrier served as honorary pallbearer.
Duhon Funeral Home in Rayne was in charge of arrangements.
