Midland, Iota pull off league victories
MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels and Lady Rebels opened up district play with a sweep of arch-rival Lacassine Friday evening.
The Lady Rebels opened play by rallying from a five-point third quarter deficit to take a 53-47 victory over the Lady Cardinals before the Rebels rolled to a 53-44 victory in the boys game.
In the opener, the Lady Rebels trailed 24-15 at the half and 33-28 heading into the fourth quarter before going on a 25-14 run in the final eight minutes.
Katie Woods scored all of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead the rally.
Katie Primeaux paced the Lady Rebels with 16 points and Hannah Fremeaux also scored 11. Katey Guidry followed with nine points, Melody Hebert added four and Morgan Clement scored two.
In the boys game, Allen Fontenot scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Rebels. Andrew Hains hit double figures with 13 points; Jake Gautreaux pitched in six; Alan Vondenstein had four and Chase Vincent and Darren Arceneaux each had three.
The Iota Lady Bulldogs were also victorious, picking up a 48-42 road victory over Lake Arthur.
The Lady Dogs improved to 18-5 overall and 4-0 in district 5-AA play with the victory.
Iota took a 38-23 lead into the fourth quarter before Lake Arthur closed the gap by going on a 17-10 run in the final frame.
Allison Baggett, Anna Lege and Caroline Hebert each knocked down two 3-pointers in the contest while Candace Sensat and Adalie Wriborg each hit one.
Baggett finished with a team-high 16 points. Hebert followed with 12 points and Sensat scored seven. Leger added six points, Wriborg had five and Madison Meche rounded out the scoring with two.
