Midland tops Holden

MIDLAND – When Midland needed a little extra boost Monday, the Lady Rebels turned to an unlikely source in Courtney LeJeune.

LeJeune, who had a season-high 14 points last week against Shongaloo, responded with nine points in the fourth quarter, helping propel the Lady Rebels to a 60-46 regional playoff victory over Holden.

Midland (24-14) will now travel to Fairview Thursday to take on Class B’s top-seeded Lady Panthers in a quarterfinal contest at 6:30 p.m.

“Courtney came in off the bench tonight and gave us that spark that we needed,” said Midland coach Stacy Bertrand following the victory. “She’s been doing that the past few games and once she gives us that spark, the others see it and follow suit.”

Midland took a 43-42 advantage into the fourth quarter before LeJeune got hot on the inside, scoring three baskets while also going 3-for-4 from the free throw line.

Ramsey Falcon also aided in the fourth quarter explosion, scoring six of her 10 points in the final eight minutes.

Midland’s defense was also key in the final frame, holding Holden to just four points.

“We really stepped it up in the second half,” said Bertrand. “Defensively and also on the inside. Everyone stepped it up.”

Sharae Primeaux scored 14 points and Carisa Richard pitched in 12.

Also contributing for Midland were Patricia Garrie with five points and Mollie Vincent with four.
