Midland tops Pitkin in Homecoming tilt; Cecilia crushes Crowley
MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels put on a scoring clinic Friday in their Homecoming contest against the visiting Pitkin Tigers.
The Rebels had 13 players score in a 79-31 rout of the Tigers that sent Midland to 12-1 on the season heading into Tuesday’s home contest against Centerville.
Pitkin kept it close in the first quarter, trailing just 15-6.
That was as close as the Tigers would get.
Midland went on a scoring frenzy over the next two frames, outscoring the Tigers 46-11 to take a 61-17 cushion into the final stanza.
The Rebels closed out the game by outscoring Pitkin 18-14 in the fourth quarter.
Alan Vondenstein paced Midland with 15 points. Chase Vincent drained four of the Rebels’ 10 3-pointers on the night and finished with 14 points. Darren Arceneaux also hit double figures with 10 points.
Andrew Hains followed with nine points; Jake Gautreaux had six; Michael Primeaux and Cody Stutes each had five; Nick Primeaux had four; Randy Primeaux and Devin Gautreaux each had three; Tristen Daigle and Trevor Guidry each had two and Traven Guidry finished with one.
Cecilia 100, Crowley 58
CECILIA – The Crowley Gents gave Class 4A Cecilia a run for their money in the first eight minutes Friday in a showdown between two former District 5-3A rivals.
Unfortunately for the Gents, a 21-16 first quarter deficit just snowballed as the game went on and the Gents were unable to stop the bleeding.
Cecilia outscored the Gents 27-12 in the second quarter and from there cruised to a surprisingly easy 100-58 victory over the Gents.
Crowley fell to 5-7 on the season with the loss.
Crowley committed 18 turnovers in the first half alone that led to 20 Cecilia points. The Gents more than doubled that turnover ratio in the second half and were outscored 26-18 in the third quarter and 26-12 in the fourth despite playing against Cecilia’s reserves for most of the final 16 minutes.
Danny Malbrough led the Gents with 14 points whlie his twin brother, Damon, had 12. Dorris Senegal followed with 11 points and Dylan Montgomery had 10.
Andre Mills pitched in eight points and Jessie Harmon rounded out the Gents scoring with four.
Crowley returns to action tonight when they play host to Class 5A’s Northside Vikings at 6 p.m.
