Midland's Primeaux wins 1600 at Class C state meet
BATON ROUGE – Midland’s Michael Primeaux added another state title to his resume’ Thursday evening.
The junior distance runner ran a 4:42.17 to claim his second straight title in the 1600-meter run at the Class B-C championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Primeaux also won the state title in the 3200-meter run in 2010, but he did not compete in that event Thursday.
Teammate Chase Vincent placed fourth in both the 1600 (5:00.53) and 3200 (10:56.81) while Korey Chataignier was fifth in the 400 (53.40).
Hailey Guidry finished fourth in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 32-11 3/4.
In team competition, Midland finished tied for 11th place with Mt. Hermon and Stanley, each with 20 points.
Weston won the event with 76 points while Rapides was second with 62. Lacassine finished third with 56 points followed by Choudrant (37), Centerville (32), Hosanna (30), Grand Lake (29), Madison Prep (25), Bell City (24) and Castor (21).
Simsboro scored 67 points to win the girls’ championship while Fairview followed close behind with 57.
Midland finished at No. 22 in the field of 25 teams with four points.
