Movie features local talent
New Orleans native Mae Chapman-Jason, who now resides in Mamou, is an Evangeline Parish resident working in the Louisiana film industry as an organizer/producer and casting director. Chapman-Jason has lived in Mamou for 15 years. Throughout the years, she has worked with the Evangeline Parish School System at Mamou High School where she was a para-educator. She is well known throughout the Lafayette area as the organizer/producer of Louisiana Produces- Lafayette Film, Music and TV Meetup Group, a casting director with Upper line Entertainment Production Company (New Orleans) and extras casting with BAM Casting (Baton Rouge). She has worked on several film projects and is thrilled about the upcoming movie, “In the Electric Mist” featuring Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman, Mary Steenburgen and several other big name actors. This movie was filmed in New Iberia, St. Martinville, Lafayette and various other parishes throughout the Acadiana area. Chapman-Jason worked as one of the extras casting directors, along with Pepper Morgan and Brinkley Maginnis, BAM Casting Director. She was thrilled to hire extras for this project, and hired 15 people from Evangeline Parish. The movie premiere and red carpet event will be Wednesday, February 18, at the Grand 10 theatre in New Iberia, followed by a grand reception. The movie is about Jone’s character, a contemplative but alcoholic and violent small-town sheriff who is investigating a string of brutal murders of young women in his Louisiana parish while jousting with a former classmate named Julie Balboni (John Goodman), who’s returned to the parish in order to make a movie. Elrod Sykes (Peter Sarsgaard) also shows up as a drunken movie star, along with Kelly Drummond (Kelly Macdonald) as his feckless TV star girlfriend and John Sayles in a cute cameo as the film’s director.
