MPD solve armed robbery, one charged
MAMOU - The Mamou Police Department has charged a local man with armed robbery after he allegedly robbed a group of young men who were playing video games at a residence in Mamou.
Detective Todd Ortis said, “On May 26th, the Mamou Police Department was notified by a 16-year-old victim, who was a juvenile, that he had been robbed at gunpoint while playing a video game at a friend’s residence in Mamou.”
According to information received by eyewitness accounts, Christopher Keith Allen entered a residence on Pine Street in Mamou, singled out the juvenile and demanded “any and all money” he had on his person. Then, Allen allegedly fled the scene on foot.
During the course and scope of the investigation, it was learned the armed robbery did occur, Ortis said. Allen allegedly took four dollars from the victim.
Allen was located at his residence on the 900 block of East St. and was arrested without incident. Also at the time of Allen’s arrest, a semi-automatic handgun, used in the armed robbery was located and seized as evidence. Allen, 23, 904 East St., Mamou, was booked into the Mamou Police Department on one count of armed robbery. Ortis said he will be transferred to the Evangeline Parish Jail. No bond has been set, and Allen is scheduled to appear before a 13th Judicial District judge for a 72-hour hearing.
“The investigation is continuing and more witnesses are expected to be questioned in connection with this incident. As the investigation unfolds, other information will be released,” Ortis added.
