Mr. Cravins goes to Washington
Gov. Bobby Jindal is expected to call a special election as soon as possible to fill the Louisiana Senate Dist. 24 seat being vacated by Don Cravins, Jr. of Opelousas.
Cravins, 36, formalized on Tuesday what most had assumed since before Christmas -- accepting the post of staff director of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, chaired as of Tuesday by Mary Landreiu, D-Louisiana.
Eventual candidates for Cravins' legislative seat will have a short period to organize and finance a campaign. The special election to fill the unexpired term, which has three years remaining, will be held within 60 days.
No candidates have yet officially announced their intentions.
Cravins, who lost a November race against incumbent Congressman Charles Boustany, told the media he could not pass the opportunity to work with the Obama administration to shape small business policy.
