Nelson, Christy exchange marriage vows
Koury Beth Nelson and Michael James Chrsity exchanged marriage vows during a 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church in Crowley. Pastor David L. Greene officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Wayne and Aline S. Nelson. She is the granddaughter of Walter C. and Ouida G. Nelson, the late Emery Stakes and the late Margaret S. Stakes. She is a graduate of Crowley High School and Louisiana State University at Shreveport, where she is pursuing a masters of science in counseling psychology.
The groom is the son of Kathy Spell. He is the grandson of Lawrence Duhon and Alice Meche. He is a graduate of Crowley High School and Louisiana State University at Shreveport with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He is currently employed by Bass Pro Shops in Shreveport.
The bride was escorted halfway down the aisle by her grandfather and escorted to the altar by her father.
She was elegant in a v-neck gown of white satin with a fitted bodice that was accented with crystal anchored beads. The gown featured a low v-back with covered buttons to the hemline to complete the chapel train. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of fresh red sweetheart roses and miniature white calla lilies.
In keeping with tradition, the bride wore a bracelet belonging to her late maternal grandmother and earrings given to her by her paternal grandmother as something old, her wedding gown as something new, a necklace belonging to her godmother as something borrowed, and her garter as something blue.
Serving as matron of honor was Amber Bott, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Alisha Stakes, cousin of the bride; Katri (KK) Martin, friend of the bride; and Andrea Christy, sister of the groom.
Bridal attendants wore assorted styles of tea length dresses in claret accented with white ribbons. They carried bouquets of white calla lilies, tied with white ribbon.
Serving as best man was Kevin Hargrave, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Andre Christy, brother of the groom; and Corey Istre, and Mannon Dudout, both friends of the groom.
Anna Stakes, cousin of the bride; served as flower girl and Hayden Istre, godchild of the groom; served as the ring bearer.
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Crowley Town Club.
The bride’s cake was a three-tiered hexagon with butter cream icing, accented with small white flowers. The main feature was a circle of love figurine atop the cake.
The groom’s cake was of red velvet confection and featured a police theme.
Following a wedding trip to Fort Walton Beach, the couple will reside in Shreveport.
A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s mother, was held May 17. Guests were served barbecue with all the trimmings.
