New board members elected to serve Crowley chamber
The Crowley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the results of the recent elections for its Board of Directors. More than 65 percent of the ballots were returned by the Chamber membership. Carlinna Bertrand, Senior Accountant at Broussard, Poche, Lewis & Breaux; Henry Helo, General Manager of Cashway Pharmacy; and Gene Williams, Investment Advisor Representative for MetLife Insurance & Financial Services were chosen by their fellow Chamber members to serve on the Chamber Board, each committing to a three-year term which will officially begin in July.
The new directors will serve along with returning board members Kim Bernard, E.L. Habetz Builders; Michael Hensgens, G&H Seed and Outdoor Store; Chad Monceaux, Crowley Professional Firefighters Local #1442; John Morgan, Louisiana Rice Mill; Danny Nugier, The Southwest Group; and Trey Signorelli, Edward Jones. Newly appointed President & CEO Amy Stansbury expressed her gratitude to the board stating, “These new directors along with our returning members will bring their expertise and resources together to help promote the business community and the Crowley area while working to make the Chamber a stronger organization.”
The Chamber welcomes these new board members and will recognize outgoing directors at the Annual Banquet, scheduled for Thursday, May 26, at the Crowley Rice Festival Building. Outgoing board members include Chairman Bryan Francis, Francis Drilling Fluids; Secretary-Treasurer Melinda Malmay, St. Martin Bank; and Pat Miers, Acadiana Technical College. In addition to honoring the Board of Directors, the Chamber will honor a Business Person of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year, and Outstanding Young Citizens. Carlinna Lejeune Bertrand, Broussard, Poché, Lewis & Breaux
Carlinna is currently a Senior Accountant at Broussard, Poché, Lewis and Breaux with knowledge in both auditing and tax. Carlinna is the In-Charge Auditor, with over 25 years of service in public and corporate accounting and experience in various industries including banking, manufacturing, non-profit, and government.
Broussard, Poché, Lewis, and Breaux has been a member of the Chamber since 1985. BPLB has sponsored numerous events including Chamber’s Gumbo Cook-off and Golf Classic. Carlinna has served on the planning committee for the cook-off. She can also be found at many of the Chamber’s events including Annual Banquet, Farmers’ Appreciation Dinner, Network @ Noon, and Business After Hours. She is also a graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership EXCEL Program.
Carlinna is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and U.S.L. with a B.S. in Business Administration. Her community involvement includes associate membership in the Solitic Club. She is a past member of the Association of University Women, and she is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She has also served on the taxation committee for the Louisiana Motor Transport Association. Carlinna is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants. Carlinna resides in Crowley with her husband, Stacy Bertrand and their four children, Christian, Jordan, Jill, and Lance.
When asked why she would like to serve on the Chamber Board, Carlinna responds, “I understand the importance of bringing area business people and their expertise and ideas together to work for the betterment of our community. I believe it is our obligation to create a business community that is conducive to growth and provides for our future generations.”
Henry Helo, Carmichael’s Cashway Pharmacy
Henry is the General Manager of Carmichael’s Cashway Pharmacy. After graduating from Notre Dame High School, Henry went on to complete his B.S. in Business Administration at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and he recently completed his Master’s of Business Administration. He has been a member of the Crowley Rotary Club for the past 7 years, where he has been actively involved in the Welcome House Project. He has also served on the Building and Planning Committee for the First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Henry is also a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. Henry is also a tri-athlete; he is a member of the USA Triathlon, where he was recognized and invited to attend the national triathlon race in 2007.
Cashway Pharmacy has been a member of the Chamber since 1992. Henry regularly attends Chamber events, including Network @ Noon and Business After Hours. Carmichael’s has also sponsored and participated in events such as the State of the Community Address, Career Expo, and the Acadia Parish Health Fair.
Henry looks forward to being actively involved in government relations and economic development as he stated, “I want to make sure that the local businesses in the area have a fair voice in the community and in government.”
Gene Williams, Metlife Insurance and Financial Services
Gene is an Investment Advisor Representative of MetLife Insurance and Financial Services. Through his work at MetLife, he has received special recognition as a 12-time qualifier for the President’s or Leader’s Conference for Sales and Service Achievement. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Gene gives back to the community by serving as a volunteer cook at Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen, serving on the Advisory Board for District 42 State Representative, and membership in the Crowley Rotary Club. Gene was on the board of the International Rice Festival for 35 years, having served as a Past President of the Rice Festival and General Chairman of the festival for 9 years.
With four years of involvement in the Chamber, Gene has attended Chamber events such as Business After Hours, Legislative Breakfast, and Grand Openings. He also participates in the Chamber through his involvement in committees, projects, and events.
Gene is married to Janet Orgeron Williams, together they have two children Jeanne Claire Williams Fontenot, who is married to Jeff Fontenot, and Brady Williams who is married to Erin Berken Williams. Gene and Janet are also the proud grandparents of five beautiful grandchildren.
Gene looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the Chamber board so that he can be more involved in different facets of the community.
