New Iberia wedding unites couple

NEW IBERIA - Trent Joseph Hains and Amanda Marie Meche exchanged wedding vows on November 4, 2011, during a 5 p.m. ceremony at Rip Van Winkle Gardens in New Iberia.

The bride is the daughter of Priscilla Ann Comeaux of Scott and Archie Joseph Meche of Mire. Her maternal grandmother is Murmae Duplantis of Scott, and her paternal grandparents are Velta Landry of Mire and the late Red Joseph Meche. She received her graduate equivalency degree and is currently attending the Louisiana Academy of Beauty in Eunice.

The groom is the son of Nolton Joseph and Phyllis Hains of Crowley. Trent is the paternal grandson of Gilbert and Jeanette Faulk Hains of Crowley, and is the maternal grandson of the late Andrus and Grace Broussard Guillot. He graduated in 2008 and is a self-employed farmer in Ebenezer.

Guests strolled through the lovely gardens filled with the scents and colors of the season. Escorted by her father and with “I do, the Original Wedding Song” playing by the artist Just Patrick, the bride wore an elegant white mermaid-style gown by Mori Lee and Madeline Gardiner. The soft satin was embroidered in white and silver which also accented the strapless sweetheart neckline and a wrapped bodice which fit snuggly around the hips and was gathered with a brooch. The soft white satin continued into a full train set by a corset-style tie up the back, also accented by the white and silver embroidery. Her headpiece was a crystal tiara that held a shoulder-length veil. She carried a bridal bouquet of blue lilies and white roses wrapped in baby blue ribbon.

Barbara Broussard officiated the double ring ceremony. Offering a breath-taking view of the gardens and Lake Peigneur, the wedding vows were recited under a white arch covered in soft blue tulle and white lilies. A gift from her groom, her necklace and earrings, represented “something blue.”

Amanda’s sister, Daphne LeJeune was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Rachel Moore and Jessica Meche, sisters of the bride; Amber Pousson and Kasie Tanner, cousins of the groom; and Lauren Lopez, friend of the groom.

Bridal attendants each wore a floor-length, single-shoulder gown of chiffon over taffeta featuring a ruched effect at the bust and waistline. The maid of honor wore platinum while each bridesmaid wore marine blue. Each bridesmaid carried a long stem lily designed with tourquoise blue feathers.

Best man was Robert Austin Hains, cousin of the groom. Groomsmen were Beau Hains, cousin of the groom; Aaron Breaux, step-brother of the bride; Denis Girouard, friend of the groom; and William Guidry, friend of the groom.

The groom and his best man wore a silver grey tuxedo with a silver vest and tie. The father of the bride, the father of the groom and the groomsmen wore the same tuxedo as the groom, but they accessorized with marine blue vests to coordinate with the bridesmaids.

The wedding party also included junior bridesmaids Madalyn and Gabriel Meche, daughters of the bride. Flower girls were Carmen Alise Meche, daughter of the bride, and Avah LeJeune, niece of the bride.

Junior bridesmaids were dressed in platinum chiffon gowns to compliment the bridesmaids. Carmen wore a white gown of chiffon over taffeta. The bodice was beaded and complimented the bride’s gown. Avah was dressed in a formal white gown of tulle over silk, accented with a white and silver flower.

Serving as ring bearer was Chevy LeJeune, nephew of the bride. He was attired in a tux similar to the groom’s.

The mother of the bride, Priscilla Comeaux selected a dark grey dress with hammered shimmers. The dress also featured a camisole bodice and embroidered empire waistband, along with a tiered skirt.

The mother of the groom, the former Phyllis Guillot wore a gown of pewter hammered shimmers. The coordinating bolero jacket featured a stand-up collar and cut away front. The design also featured a camisole bodice, embroidered empire waistband and a tiered skirt.

Immediately following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held in honor of the newlyweds on site in the Conference Center at Rip Van Winkle Gardens. At the entrance was a table filled with favors in touches of blue and silver and photos of the bride and groom as babies. Guests were invited to sign a special matt to surround a framed wedding photo, as well as a traditional bridal registry.

Among the refreshments provided for the guests was the bridal cake, a three-tiered confection with the top tier set on columns. The next two layers were decorated with silk white lilies and other blue tipped flowers of fondant and with the letter “H,” representing the couples’ initials. Butter cream icing covered the vanilla cake with vanilla filling. It was backed by an arch of blue tulle and white lilies.

As a fifth generation farmer, the groom topped his cake with a miniature tractor and combine of a body style representing his own generation. The second layer featured tractors in body styles from the four generations of farmers in his immediate family. The cake was a traditional chocolate confection with chocolate custard decorated to resemble a rice field. Photos of the five generations were also noted on the cake table, as well as mini crawfish traps filled with crawfish.

Several of the guests tables were embellished with vases with tourquoise lilies and some had vases with floating silver candles.

Friends and family traveled from Lafayette, Scott, Rayne, Iota, Fields and Mire.

Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held October 30 at noon at Rip Van Winkle’s Cafe. Hosted by the parents of the groom, guests enjoyed spaghetti, seafood heaven and crawfish etouffee.

After their wedding, the couple enjoyed a honeymoon cruise to Cozomel, Mexico; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; and Jamaica.

The newlyweds now reside in Ebenezer.
