EVANGELINE – The town of Evangeline recently opened a new post office. The new location has been operating for two months.

Post Master, Jeffery Lebeouf, says “having it located off of a main highway really improves accessibility.” The original site, on Maple drive, was dedicated in the late 1960’s and was leased to the U.S. Postal Office by an independent owner.

Improvements are easily recognizable at this new site. Lebeouf pointed out, “this building is much larger with room for expansion.” The current building was used in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina devastated the area. The postal service purchased this building along with another to be used as a new post office in Branch.

A newly offered service is the addition of parcel lockers. These will allow access to packages after hours. Residents have the option to rent a post office box or have their mail delivered via an auxiliary rural route carrier. Lebeouf expressed pride in saying, “a small town post office, such as this one, is so convenient for residents. There are no long lines or waits.”
