New ordinances introduced by Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona

A total of approximately 24 ordinances or amendments to ordinances introduced during the regular meeting of the Amite Town Council. The council met at the Amite City Hall, Tuesday, March 3 with all the council members being present.

Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona asked that 18 amended ordinances be introduced. These ordinances pertain to the police department and city court.

They are as follows:

• Telephone communications; improper language; harassment

• Entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden

• Flight from an officer

• Hit-and-run driving

• Leased movables; obtaining by false representation; failure to return or surrender

• Misrepresentation during booking

• Reckless operation of a vehicle

• Simple obstruction of a highway of commerce

• Illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile

• Purchase and public possession of alcoholic beverages; exceptions; penalties

• Unlawful sales to persons under 21 (twenty-one)

• Illegal possession of stolen things

• Theft of animals

• Theft of goods

• Theft of utility service; inference of commission of theft; penalties

• Criminal trespass

• Battery of a police officer

• Carrying, possessing, drinking from open containers prohibited

Trabona and City Attorney Chuck Reid went over these ordinances strenuously to ensure that they would each be beneficial to the Amite Police Department in their mission to alleviate crime in Amite

These amendments will be brought up for public hearing on Tuesday, April 7 during the next regular meeting of the Amite Town Council.
