PP Dixie Youth

sets registration

Pine Prairie Dixie Youth will conduct baseball registration Monday, January 26, and Tuesday, January 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Pine Prairie gym. Cost is $40 for the first child and $20 for each additional child. Signup for coaches and board members will be taken at this time.

Men’s conference set

Harvest Time Full Gospel Ministry will be hosting its First Annual men’s conference Saturday, January 10, at Ville Platte’s Martin Luther King Center. The cost is $15 per person with registration from 8 to 9 a.m. The cost covers the conference with guest speakers, breakfast and lunch. This conference is for the young adult male to the oldest male. ELTL sets registration

The Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) spring registration will be held Monday, January 12th, through Friday, January 23rd, at the Eunice City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration forms are available at city hall. Players from all locales are welcome.

Dues are $20 (checks only), which includes 12 weeks of tennis and an end-of-the-season banquet. First date of play will be February 3rd. Team captains will notify team members by January 29th.

Registration is open to women 18 years and over, and it is recommended tennis players know the scoring system, have a general knowledge of the game with some playing experience, and have knowledge of court etiquette.

The ELTL is compiling a list of substitute players. Players who are interested in signing up as a substitute should call Margaret Young at 546-6789 for more information.

SH PTC to meet

Sacred Heart PTC will meet January 21, at 6 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Elementary Science lab. All parents are invited to attend.

COA to meet

The Board of Directors of the Evangeline Council on Aging Inc. will hold its board meeting Tuesday, January 13, at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the meeting room on the first floor of Village de Memoire II. The public is invited.

St. Luke plans

The St. Luke Baptist Church male chorus of Vidrine will be sponsoring a winter musical Saturday, January 24, at 6 p.m. Male chorus groups, choirs and soloists will be performing. There will be a guest speaker. The public is invited.

Family night

Safe Harbor Family Night Gospel singing is moving from Tuesday nights to Friday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. at 712 Main Street in Mamou. Anyone wishing to sing or bring their own instruments may do so. There is no admission. A free supper will be served. Bible study is held every Wednesday at 5 p.m. For more information, call 468-2795.

Morgan family

needs assistance

Clothing and furniture is being gathered for the Joshua Morgan Sr. family, who lost their home to fire January 1. They need a man’s large shirt and 38 pants, woman’s large shirt and 16 pants, 3T boys clothing, 5T girls clothing and 6 boys clothing. All donations can be dropped off at the home of Janice Lavergne, 605 N. Soileau, Apt. 143, Ville Platte, or call 363-0523 to make arrangements. The family thanks the community in advance for their generosity.

VPHS math night set

Ville Platte High School (VPHS) will host family math night Thursday, January 15, at 5:30 p.m. in Room number nine. Kim Soileau will be the presenter. All families are encouraged to attend the meeting and enjoy lots of math hands-on activities. Materials will be available upon request to those parents who are unable to attend.

Winter revival set

St. Paul Baptist Church of Opelousas will conduct its annual winter revival January 6, to January 8, at 7 p.m. each night. There will be powerful preaching, guest speakers and soul-stirring singing. The public is invited.

Girls’ Recreational

to meet twice

The Ville Platte Girls’ Recreational Association will meet January 13, at 6 p.m. at the National Guard Armory to discuss changes for the upcoming year and maintenance needed to the park. The group will meet again January 20, at 6 p.m. at the National Guard Armory to vote on all topics discussed at the January 13, meeting and to elect new officers for the 2009 season.

Bank account

created for Edna

A bank account has been established at Citizens Bank to assist Edna Fontenot, 60, of Pine Prairie with her medical bills. Fontenot was involved in an automobile accident, December 8. She was transported to Shreveport with a broken back and has had surgery. She has no movement in her lower body but is currently in rehab in Mamou. She is the mother of Ricky Fontenot and Mike Fontenot of Pine Prairie, Tywanna Bertrand of Plaisance and Mary Fontenot of Ville Platte. Any donation or prayer would assist her and be greatly appreciated.

VPHS to offer

computer classes

Ville Platte High School (VPHS) will offer free basic windows computer classes to adults, 21 years or older, beginning January 9, 2009. All interested parties should call Regina O’Conner Thomas (363-2728 or 363-3387) at VPHS between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. by January 9. This is a service being provided to the community through VPHS’s Title One program.

Substitute teacher

The Evangeline Parish School system will conduct substitute teacher training sessions January 13, and January 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the media center (behind Ville Platte High School’s football stadium).

To be eligible for employment as a substitute teacher, you must be at least 20 years of age, have a high school diploma, complete substitute training sessions (four hours) and complete an application at the Evangeline Parish School Board or download an application at www.epsb.com.

Food for Families set

The Evangeline Community Action Agency Inc. and Food for Families/Seniors will be distributing food boxes at the following locations and times January 12:

•Basile’s town hall from 1 to 2 p.m.

•Mamou’s civic center from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

•Pine Prairie’s St. Peter’s Church from 9 to 10 a.m.

•Chicot’s Calvary Baptist Church from 9 to 10 a.m.

•Turkey Creek’s village hall from 1 to 2 p.m.

•Lone Pine’s Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m.

•Chataignier’s village hall from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.

•Ville Platte’s civic center from 8 to 10 a.m.

Please bring your pink cards. Mothers bring your white cards with you. If you have any questions, call 363-1306.

Other scheduled distribution dates have been set, and January, February and May distributions will be a week earlier due to the holidays. The dates for the year are February 9, March 16, April 20, May 11, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21, October 19, November 16, and December 21. The dates are subject to change.

Farm Bureau

will not meet

There will be no monthly meeting of the Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Board of Directors during the month of January. A notification letter will be mailed out for the next meeting.
