Sheriff’s Office announces recent, unrelated arrests; requests information on wanted individual

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that 32-year-old Kelly Dugas of the 2900 block of Higginbotham Highway in Church Point has been arrested following an investigation into an incident that occurred on Dec. 16, 2013.
Melancon stated that Dugas was arrested without incident and placed in the Acadia Parish Jail charged with battery with a dangerous weapon (belt). Bond was set at $5,000 by District Judge John Trahan. The victim in this incident was a 7-year-old juvenile.
In an unrelated matter, an Egan couple has been arrested following an investigation into an incident that occurred on Dec. 20.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, 24-year-old Irene Champagne and 23-year-old Michael Champagne, both of Buddy Drive in Egan were arrested without incident and placed in the Acadia Parish Jail charged with two counts of battery with a dangerous weapon (extension cord). The victims in this incident were ages 3 and 5. Trahan set bond at $10,000 on each defendant in this case.
Finally, investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 30-year-old Melanie Sarver, aka Melanie Walton, whose last known address was 17th Street in Crowley.
Sarver is wanted for possession of stolen property and is believed that she may be hiding in the Lafayette area in an effort to elude law enforcement. Anyone having information of her whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Jeff Stewart at 788-8700.
