Alderman Abshire announces he will not seek re-election
Rayne District 2 Alderman Jude “Butch” Abshire has announced his decision to not seek re-election at the end of his current term of office.
His full announcement follows:
“Today I am officially announcing my retirement from the Rayne City Council on December 31st of this year, which is the end of my current term in office. I am truly blessed to have been entrusted with the opportunity to serve the citizens of District 2 for the past 13 years. I have met many people who have become my friends while serving in this capacity. I would like to thank both the previous and current administration for always striving to do what is best for the people of Rayne. My job in oilfield sales now requires that I travel out of town frequently and I feel it is best to have an alderman that is more readily accessible for the people of Rayne.
“I would like to thank my wife Cyndi, along with my children Justin, Ashley and our late son Andrew for always supporting me throughout my role as your alderman. On behalf of my wife and family we also thank all the citizens of Rayne for their overwhelming heartfelt support as we continue to mourn the recent death of our son Andrew.
“Looking forward, I plan to spend more time with my family as I transition into this new chapter in my life. Although I am officially leaving public service at the end of 2014, I will continue to do all that I can to make Rayne a better city for everyone in the future.
“Several possible candidates have shown interest in running for the office that I am vacating and I am looking forward to assuring that a smooth transition occurs with whoever is elected by the citizens of District 2.
“Again, I want to say thank you to the people of Rayne, especially in District 2, for the opportunity to serve you. God Bless!”
