At their recent meeting, the Crowley Lions Club presented a check in the amount of $6,000 to the Louisiana Lions Camp in Anacoco. The 200-acre camp, which opened in 1961, annually hosts summer sessions for special needs children. Taking part in the donation were, from left, Crowley Lions Ryan Hebert, Jeff Doré, Wayne Melancon, Louis Saab, Patti Lawrence and President Ann Mire; Camp Executive Director Raymond E. Cecil; and Lions Stephen Lambousy, Dr. John “Jack” Wise, Keith Frederick and Jamie Doucet. Funding for the donation came from the Lions Club’s share of the recent joint seafood etouffee lunch sale in conjunction with the Crowley Fire Department.

Nathan Cormier of Crowley successfully defended his 2022 title of Lion’s Club Rice Eating Contest Champion by once again consuming 25 scoops of rice dressing — the same number of scoops he ate last year — in 10 minutes during the 2023 Rice Eating Contest.
