World War II and U.S. Navy Veteran Joe Richard of Church Point is presented with a slice of birthday cake by American Legion Post 225 Commander Dennis Hart during Richard’s 100th birthday party on Sunday, July 23, Richard’s actual birthday. According to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, Richard is the last known Pearl Harbor survivor in the state of Louisiana. During the event, hosted at Post 225, Richard received several honors, including a Town of Church Point proclamation declaring July 23 Joe Richard Day and the keys to the town.
