A&O, Sisters plan back to school events

Century farm recognized

BEARB FARM, located near Mire, was recognized as a Louisiana Century Farm during the Louisiana Farm Bureau convention in New Orleans. The Bearb family descendant, Gary Smith, center, accepted the recognition from Stephen Austin president and CEO of Louisiana Land Bank, left, and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. The century designation honors those who own land that has been a part of their family farm for 100 years or more. The Bearb Farm was founded in 1901 by Arvillian (Blanc) Bearb and his wife, Emma Duplechin.Applications for the second annual award presentation are currently being accepted through December 31, 2015. There is no cost to apply.
