Progressive: ‘It was a bad week’

Everyone was expecting a fight when the Solid Waste Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury discussed recent issues with garbage collection Tuesday night.
Even the chairman of the Solid Waste Committee was hesitant about entering the fray. “I hate to get started with this,” said Richard Faul when the agenda item came up.
But the potential controversy was quickly diffused when officials from Progressive Waste Solutions admitted that there had, indeed, been a noticeable lapse in service of late.

Chamber Board nominees announced

Members of the Crowley Chamber of Commerce will be electing three board members for the 2016-17 election.
The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to serve a three year term.

Car, Tractor shows set Saturday

The Rice City Classic Car Show, Shine and Stroll and the Antique Tractor and Implement Show are being held in conjunction with each other this Saturday.
With both events — along with a motorcycle show at the MetLife Building — sure to draw a large crowd downtown, Mayor Greg Jones wanted for people to come out and have a good time without forgetting their civic duty.

Rotary learns the ins and outs of franchising

The Rotary Club of Crowley recognized one of their own Tuesday as part of Rotary International’s Women in Rotary Club month. The Crowley club’s woman’s pioneer is Alice Whiting, who became the first female Rotary member on Nov. 1, 1993. Presenting her the award were, from left, Melinda Malmay, Nancy Broadhurst, Gwen Foreman, Whiting, Angelique Credeur, President Pat Miers and President-elect Tracy Young.
