Norris Cain

LAFAYETTE – Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at a 10 a.m. service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Norris Cain, 88, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Interment will be in Indian Bayou Cemetery.

Reverend Ira Robinson of Asbury United Methodist Church, will officiate the services.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Eva Guidry Cain of Lafayette; one daughter, Sandra Decuir and her husband, Kenneth of New Iberia; two sons, Taylor Cain and his wife, Lessley of Lake Charles and Craig Cain and his wife, Kay of Denham Springs; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Sybil Hurlston of Victor, Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Emma Lou Meaux Cain; one brother Norman Cain; and one sister, Wanda LaFleur.

A native of Rayne and resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Mr. Cain was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army Air Corps, where he served in World War II.

Following the war Mr. Cain managed LaFleur’s Grocery in Crowley for many years. He also worked for Malone & Hyde and was owner of Lafayette National Brand Stores and Rayne Food Center where he worked until his retirement.

Mr. Cain was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, gardening and working with his hands. He was a very creative and inventive person and especially enjoyed tinkering around the house. Mr. Cain was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post.

He was a kind person to one and all and enjoyed joking and spending time with friends and family. He was known by many as a generous gentleman and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and be continued on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
