Northwest nails Lake Arthur Tigers 69-38

The Lake Arthur Tigers traveled to Opelousas to take on the District 5-3A Northwest High School Raiders this past Tuesday, January 20, 2009 and were drilled by a final score of 69-38 in non-district basketball action.
Northwest claimed an early 15-4 lead after the first eight minutes, as the Tigers struggled to score points.
Lake Arthur enjoyed a better second stanza, outscoring their foes 19-16 to cut the Raider lead to 31-23 at the halftime break.
But the pivotal third period was almost a complete copy of the initial quarter, as Northwest went on a 16-5 eight-minute run to claim a commanding 47-28 lead entering the fourth and final period.
In the final frame, the Raiders dominated throughout by a 22-10 margin to grab the contest 69-38 and coast to the easy non-district win.
Darius Mitchell was the only Tiger to hit double figures on this evening, as he punched in 13 points. Colby Lavergne and Josh Turner each added six, while Nick Klein and Brad Armentor notched five points apiece. John Thompson tossed in the final three tallies for Lake Arthur.
Thaddeus Kennerson and Shone Richard led Northwest with 19 and 14 tallies respectively.
Mitchell and Klein each pumped in a three-pointer for the Tigers.
The Tigers hit on 12 field goals and were eight of 12 from the free throw line, while Northwest clicked on 28 field goals and were seven of 17 from the charity stripe.
With the loss, the Tigers fell to 11-6 overall on the season, while Northwest improved to 13-9 with the win.
