Notre Dame, Church Point fair well at Bulldog Relays

CECILIA – Blake Miller raced to a victory in the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200 Thursday and Hunter Stelly added a victory in the javelin, highlighting the Notre Dame Pios’ effort in the Cecilia Bulldogs Relays.

The performances were the few bright spots for the Pios, who competed with only an 8-man contingent to their season-opening meet.

Church Point, the other Acadia Parish team in the meet, fared a little better with a fifth-place showing.

Breaux Bridge scored 119.5 points to edge Cecilia (118.5) for the overall team title. Tioga finished third with 102 points.

Miller’s winning time in the 100 was 10.84, while his time in the 200 was 22.6.

Stelly’s winning throw in the javelin was 187-7.

Church Point’s lone first-place finish was in the 4x200 meter relay (1:34). The Bears also logged a second place showing in the 4x400 (3:33).

Zach Meche also placed second in the 400-meter run (51.84); Desmond Bellard was third in the 200 (23.21) and Dionta Lazard was third in the 110-hurdles (19.15).

Tioga’s Austin Enger won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs to earn the Outstanding Track Performer award while Cecilia’s Jeremy Doucette won the shot put and placed second in the discus to earn Outstanding Track honors.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Pios scored a third-place with 77 points while Church Point was fourth with 42.

Westminster cruised to the team title with 172 points. Cecilia was second with 113.

The Lady Pios racked up 18 points in the 3200-meter run. Aline Gossen won the event with a time of 13:33 and teammate Elizabeth Ledet was second (13:58). Ledet also took second in the 1600 with a time of 6:33.

Taylor Gray and Mishka Mire added to the Lady Pios’ point total with third-place finishes in the 800- and 400-meter runs, respectively.

Peyton Miller and Victoria Dupre, meanwhile, scored in the field events.

Miller was second in the javelin (95-5) and Dupre was second in the high jump (4-6).

Church Point’s Shandrika Boast won the 200 (27.28) and was second in the 100 (13.10). The Lady Bears also got a pair of third place showings in the 4x100 (53.24) and the 4x200 (1:54).

Tequila Richard rounded out the scoring with a pair of third place showings in the field events. She had a toss of 29-2 1/2 in the shot put and a mark of 79-10 in the discus.

Cecilia’s Kelsea Noel was named the Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 110 and the 300 hurdles. The Outstanding Field Performer was Westminster’s Shelby Hunter, who won the triple jump and placed second in the long jump.
