Notre Dame, Crowley High pick up softball victories
RAYNE – Notre Dame’s Mollie Stelly was as close to perfect as one can be Monday afternoon in the Lady Pios’ season opener at Rayne.
The junior hurler struck out 10 batters to record a no-hit shutout in the Lady Pios’ 12-0 mercy rule victory over the Lady Wolves.
Her only blemish was a hit batsmen in the fourth inning.
Notre Dame’s offense was equally impressive.
The Lady Pios banged out 12 hits, including seven for extra bases, off two Rayne pitchers.
Allie Daigle got things going in the first inning with an RBI double. Alexa Thibodeaux then blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Stelly helped her own cause in the second inning with an RBI single and Taylor Boulet plated a run with a triple. Daigle had another RBI in the frame.
Taylor Satchell got in on the action in the fourth inning with a run-scoring triple and Brittany Nolan plated another run with a single to center.
The Lady Pios added two more runs in the top of the fifth and Stelly closed out the game in the bottom of the frame by retiring the side in order.
Daigle led the Lady Pios with a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles and three RBI. Satchell had a double, a triple and two RBI and Boulet had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI.
Thibodeaux had a home run and two RBI, Nolan and Stelly each had one hit and one RBI, Megan Murrell added a double and Zoie Lavergne had a single.
In other softball action, Crowley High was able to overcome eight errors to slip away with a 1-0 road victory over Opelousas Catholic.
Crowley’s Maddie LeBouef doubled in the fourth inning, advanced to third on an error and scored the eventual winning run on a ground out to second base by Skylor Huval.
Olivia Boullion was credited with the victory after limiting Opelousas Catholic to just three hits through seven innings. She struck out three.
LeBouef paced the Ladies’ 6-hit attack with two hits, including a double. Boullion also recorded a double while Heather Trahan, Bailee Villejoin and Taylor Grabowski each had a single.
