Notre Dame senior accepted into People to People Program

Andre’ Trahan, son of Judge John and M’elise Trahan of Crowley, a senior at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, will join
a select group of students representing their schools, communities, and country as People to People student leaders.

Trahan has been accepted into the People to People Leadership Summit in George Washington University/American University, Washington, D.C., July 23 – August 1, 2008. All students accepted into a People to People program must meet rigorous academic and leadership requirements. Trahan was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

The People to People Leadership Summits bring together outstanding student leaders from around the globe to focus on leadership, team building, community service, college admissions, and professional aspirations. Students work on an action plan to make a difference in their communities, develop skills to help them lead tomorrow’s world, and build their college resumes, while earning academic or service-learning credit.

Participants also gain insights to guide their educational and professional careers, and benefit from a strong focus on college admissions. Through workshops, presentations, excursions and discussions, student leaders attain a clear advantage as they pursue and fine-tune their selected fields of interest. Students will have the opportunity to meet with admissions officers and gain valuable advice for navigating the college application process. In some locations, student will be able to tour several area universities.

The 2008 People to People Leadership Summits will convene at American University; Columbia University; George Washington University; Johns Hopkins University; Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology; New York University; Stanford University; University of California, Los Angeles; and University of Chicago.

The program is coordinated by People to People Ambassador Programs to fulfill the vision President Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956.

Andre’ is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Trahan and the late Glady Trahan of Crowley and retired Judge and Mrs. Denald Beslin of Rayne.
