Notre Dame's Robichaux tosses no-hitter at Abbeville
ABBEVILLE – The Notre Dame Pioneers continued to pound their opponents and Austin Robichaux continued to baffle them Tuesday.
The Pios clubbed out 10 hits and Robichaux threw a no-hitter as the Notre Dame rolled to a 13-1 victory over Abbeville at Roy Theriot Field.
The Pios improved to 20-1 overall and 3-0 in district 5-AAA play with the victory.
Austin Robichaux picked up his fifth win of the season after his latest gem. He surrendered one run (unearned) on two walks and two hit batsmen. He struck out six.
Robichaux also led the Pios at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Connor Goss followed with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double and three RBI while Bourgeois had two hits and a RBI. Mitch Corzine had one hit and two RBI while Pete Petitjean and Ricky Stoma each singled and drove in a run.
Notre Dame was held in check for the first two innings before jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third frame.
Corzine drew a two-out walk to start the rally before Goss was hit by a pitch. One batter later, Robichaux singled in both runners before scoring himself on a RBI single from Stoma. Nick Gossen drove home the final run of the inning when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Notre Dame added to its lead in the fourth when 13 batters stepped to the plate. The Pios pushed across nine runs on six hits, four walks and one Abbeville error.
Goss logged two hits in the inning and drove in three runs on a single and a double. Corzine picked up two RBI on a single and Luke Bourgeois singled in another run. Petitjean plated a run on a ground out and Brennan Corzine brought home another run on a bases-loaded walk.
The Pios will be in action again today when they travel to Leroy to take on North Vermilion in another 5-AAA contest. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
