JOAN FRANCES RICHARD REED

OPELOUSAS - Funeral services were held for Joan Frances Richard Reed, 80, of Opelousas, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas at 10 a.m., Monday, January 5. Burial followed in Bellevue Memorial Park.

Ms. Reed died Friday, January 2, 2009, at her residence. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include three sons, Rob Reed and his wife, Alicia Ryder Reed, of Grand Prairie, Richard “Dickie” Reed and his wife, Suzanne Dartez Reed, of Lafayette and Kenny Reed and his wife, Bertha Budden Reed, of Opelousas; one daughter, Patsy Reed Fontenot and her husband, Bill, of Grand Prairie; one sister, Yola Mae “Sis” Richard; three sisters-in-law, Versie Richard and Jackie Richard, both of Opelousas, and Peggy Reed Buller and her husband, Dr. William Buller, of Ville Platte; eight grandchildren, Ryan Reed and his wife, Amber, Chris Reed, Kevin Reed, Natalie Dugas and her husband, Ryan, Mia F. Hundley and her husband, Steven, Jared Fontenot, Lori F. Trahan and her husband, Nick, and Luke Reed; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Reed and Brodie Dugas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burke Reed; her parents, Leonce and Agnes Richard; two brothers, Aaron Richard and Charles Richard; and one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Fadaol.

Pall bearers were Ryan Reed, Jared Fontenot, Kevin Reed, Steven Hundley, Bill Buller and David Richard.

The readers were Myra Buller and Mia Hundley; and the presenters were Chris Reed, Lori Trahan and Natalie Dugas. The music selection was provided by Sharee Hunter.

MARJORIE THIBODEAUX BROWN

January 9, 1941 - January 5, 2009

PLAISANCE - Funeral services were held for Marjorie Thibodeaux Brown, 67, of Plaisance, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grand Prairie at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 6. Burial followed in the St. Andrew Cemetery in Plaisance.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all that knew her, Mrs. Brown died Monday, January 5, 2009, at Opelousas General Health Systems.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde Brown of Plaisance; one son, Warren Brown and his wife, Leah, of Plaisance; one daughter, Donna Young and her husband, Karl, of Port Barre; two brothers, Rodney Thibodeaux and Rodnis Thibodeaux, both of Morgan City; one sister, Judy Moffett of Morgan City; four grandchildren, Stacey Brown, Michael Brown, Jonas Young and Mitchell Brown; and three great-grandchildren Braydon Brown, Hayden Brown and Maddie Enos.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Onelia Aucoin Thibodeaux; one son, James Brown; and one daughter, Lisa Brown.

November 8, 1947 - January 2, 2009

PINE POINT - Funeral services were held for Daniel Dean Fuselier, 61, of Eunice, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Mamou at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 4. Burial followed in the Pine Point Cemetery.

A native of Mamou, Mr. Fuselier died at 5:30 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009, in Eunice.

Survivors include two sons, Jamie Fuselier of Vidrine and Lannie Fuselier of Lake Charles; one brother, Craig Fuselier of Eunice; three sisters, Rebecca Logue of Mamou, Deborah Fuselier of Eunice and Kateena Black of Zachary; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel T. Fuselier; and one brother, Conrad Fuselier.

NELSON JOHN O’CONNOR

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Nelson John O’Connor, 89, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 6. Burial followed in the Reed Cemetery.

Mr. O’Connor died at 3:45 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn O. Brignac and her husband, Bert, of Mamou and Ettie Soileau and her husband, Delbert, of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Gary Brignac, Mark Dupuis, Rona Laborde, Craig Brignac, Rachel Loflis, Maria Soileau and Jason Soileau; and nine great-grandchildren, Adrian Aymond, Seth Dupuis, Amy Laborde, Jed Dupuis, Katelyn Brignac, Alyssa Laborde, Julian Brignac, Cade Brignac and Connor Brignac.

He was preceded in death by his wife, A.D. O’Connor; one daughter, Glory Dupuis; one son-in-law, Floyd Dupuis; and one grandson, Steven Soileau.

BERNADETTE ALLISON JACK

August 23, 1995 - January 5, 2009

Funeral services will be held for Bernadette Allison Jack, 13, of Ville Platte, at St. John Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 10. Burial will follow in the St. John Memorial Cemetery.

Miss Jack died Monday, January 5, 2009, at Ville Platte Medical Center.

Survivors include her parents, Nelson and June Jack of Ville Platte; two brothers, James Jack of Ville Platte and Kevin Jack and his wife, Mel, of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Murphy Allison Sr. and Ogina “Sugar-Do” Allison.

CARL ED THOMAS

August 15, 1951 - December 31, 2008

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Carl Ed Thomas, 57, of Pine Prairie, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie at 10 a.m., Friday, January 2. Burial followed in the Ortego Cemetery in Mamou.

A resident of Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Mr. Thomas died at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.

Survivors include one daughter, Heather Renee Thomas of Ville Platte; two brothers, Jon Thomas and his wife, Charline, of Pine Prairie and Wilbur Gauthier and his wife, Sonia, of Pearl, Mississippi; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Woodrow Thomas and Velma Johnson Thomas.

Father Richard Broussard officiated.
