Patricia
Lynn Gray
A memorial
Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 30, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at
St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Patricia Lynn Gray, who died
Friday, August 27, 2004 at her home. Father Louie Richard is the scheduled
celebrant. Family visitation will take place in church from 9 a.m. until
the time of service.
A native and life long resident of Crowley, Lynn was born on July 4,
1928. She taught History at Crowley High School for 20 years. She was
an active member of many social and civic clubs and a loyal volunteer.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend. Her laughter
and kindness touched and comforted all that knew her. She will be deeply
missed by all.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Tommy; four children, Claudia Thornton
and her husband Gardiner; Page and his wife Judy; Thomas and his wife
Suzanne and Gretchen Ohlenforst and her husband Jude and nine grandchildren,
Drew, Gray and Madelyn Thornton, Taylor Gray and his wife Aylie, Alex,
John Thomas, Page E., William and Page B. Gray.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lance and Mildred Patterson
McBride.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice
of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 236, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Reed Henderson
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 29 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Iota for Hazel Reed Henderson, 92, who died Thursday,
August 26, 2004 at American Legion Hospital.
Father David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial will
be at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family request visiting hour be observed
Sunday from 8 a.m. until service time. A rosary was recited Saturday
at 7ß p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Henderson of Iota; three grandchildren,
Michael Day of Morgan City, Mary Williams and her husband Lance of Paw
Paw, Michigan and Tracy Andrepont and her husband Chris of Iota; five
great-grandchildren, Tara Rachael and Jerimiah Day along with their
mother Paula Abshire and her husband Darren of Alexandria, Jessica Day
of Atlanta and Nathanial Williams of Paw Paw, Michigan; two great great-grandchildren,
Aulbry and Elizabeth Day of Alexandria; one sister, Jeanne Ardoin of
Welsh and one brother, Willard "Bill" Reed of Crowley.
Mrs. Henderson was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph
Ladies Altar Society and American Legion Auxiliary and 40 & 8.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henderson; her daughter,
Sue Day; her parents, Alfred and Alicia Pousson Reed and numerous brothers
and sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home of
Iota.

Pizzolatto Kober
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2004, at 3 p.m. at
Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home for Lucille Pizzolatto Kober, 88, who died
on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at American Legion Hospital.
Father Rusty Richard will officiate for the services. The visitation
will be observed on Friday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will
continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, August 27.
Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include her three daughters, Rita K. Legnion and her husband,
Donald, of Lake Charles, Nita K. Faulk and her husband, Bill, of Crowley
and Barbara K. Viator of Crowley; two sisters, Rita P. Nicholson of
Crowley and Rosalie P. Chambers of Lafayette; one brother, Anthony Tony
Pizzolatto of Houma; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvoid Boo Boo
Kober; her parents, Salvatore and Josephine Grado Pizzolatto; four sisters,
Sarah Baker, Mary Belanger, Virginia Alesi and Dorothy Partana and four
brothers, Louis, Leo, Nicholas and Joe Pizzolatto.
Mrs. Kober was a sales clerk at Greenwalds Dress Shop and Bealls
Dept. Store. She was a teachers aide at Ross Elementary School
with special education, a catechism teacher with Immaculate Heart of
Mary CCD program and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Ladies Altar
Society.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley is being entrusted with the

Morrel
Baker, Sr.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28 at Greater
Mount Zion Baptist Church for Morrel Baker, Sr., 88, of Crowley. Mr.
Baker died on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital
in Crowley.
Interment will be in the West Crowley Cemetery with Reverend Keith Matthews
officiating.
Mr. Baker was born in Dubuisson, La. and lived in Crowley most of his
life. He was one of six children born to Reverend Theodore Baker, Sr.
and Dorisha Hagger. Morrel accepted Christ at the age of 12 at Macedonia
Baptist Church. Morrell married Esther Mae Scott on January 2, 1937
and to this union 11 children were born. He served as a Deacon at Providence
Baptist Church for 42 years. In 1982 the Lord placed him at Greater
Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon until he was
called home. In 1984 he joined the Masons, C. F. Ladd Lodge #48.
He is survived by six sons, Donald R. Baker of Crowley, Wilkins Baker
of Crowley, Frankie Baker LaPorte, Texas, Reverend Morrel Baker, Jr.
Cleveland Baker and Wilton Baker, all of Houston; four daughters, Betty
Baker of Crowley, Audrey Collins of Beaumont,Texas, Dorothy Penry of
Houston and Jackie Kessee of Aliso Viejo, Calif., his daughters-in-law
Martha and Loretta Baker of Crowley, Windy, Mariko and Beola of Houston
of Houston and Mary Baker of LaPorte, Texas; his sons-in-law, Archie
Penry of Houston, and Milton Collins of Beaumont, Texas; 20 grandchildren
14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 61 years,
Esther Mae Baker; a son, Bennett G. Baker; three brothers, Albert Baker,
Sr., Reverend Theodore Baker, Jr. and Alan Baker, Sr.; three sisters,
Julia Lewis, Edmonia Johnson and Hazel Wells; one son-in-law, Pastor
James Kessee, one granddaughter, Joy Ne Esther Kessee; one grandson,
Rodney West, Jr. and one great-grandson, Jamall Joseph
Visitation will at the church from 8 a.m. Saturday until the time of
service.

Mr. Alladain Dan Sims Cotton Eye, 71, died
Friday, August 20, 2004 at his residence in Crowley. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 28 at the Israelite Baptist
Church. Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery under the direction
of Owen-Thomas Funeral Home.

Raymond Gaspard
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 10 a.m.
in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Van Raymond Gaspard,
49, who died Monday, August 23, 2004 at his residence. Rev. Loyd Singley
will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed Tuesday from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday
from 8 a.m. to service time.
Survivors include his companion, Mechelle Guidry of Morse, one sister;
Marilyn S. Leger of Crowley; two brothers, Glenn Gaspard of Jennings
and Carol J. Gaspard of Texas; four daughters, Lazena, Tomika, Brandy
and Kelly and one son, Chad Raymond
Mr. Gaspard was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L. Gaspard and
his brother-in-law, Curney Leger, Jr.

ALEXANDRIA - A Mass of Christian burial for Gladys Joyce
Pousson will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2004 in the St. Frances
Cabrini Catholic Church with Reverend Jose Robles-Sanchez and Reverend
Chad Partain officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park,
Pineville under the directions of John Kramer & Son.
Gladys Joyce Pousson, 80, of Alexandria, died Sunday, August
22, 2004 at her residence. She was born in London, England to William
and Isabel Howes. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother
and devoted friend and teacher.
Her great loves in live were God first, her family, friends, music,
singing, cooking English dishes, a cup of hot tea, reading, sewing,
traveling, the fine arts, an English garden with roses and a little
French poodle named Teddy.
She was a retired school teacher of 25 years at St. Frances Cabrini
School and was an active member of the British Wives Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother William Charles
Howes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Collins Louis Pousson
of Alexandria; three daughters, Jacqueline Pousson of Alexandria, Jocelyn
Foster of Alexandria and Jennifer Kranzman and her husband Edward of
Longview, Texas; one son, Michael Pousson and his wife Nancy of Houston;
one sister, Dorothy Tilley of Cornwall, England; seven grandchildren,
Bradley, Kevin, Ashley, Lindsey, Maegan, Sheena and Sheela.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at John
Kramer & Son. A rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral
home.

Hebert Johnson
RAYNE - Beverly Hebert Johnson, 83, died Sunday morning at 10:45 on
August 22, 2004 at her home in Rayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne at 10:00 A. M. on Tuesday,
August 24, 2004.
The Reverend John Buddy Breaux will officiate and interment
will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Rayne.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Leger, Sr. of Rayne and Mrs.
B. I. Moody III of Crowley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Flemon J. Johnson, her parents,
Valery L. and Nettie Plattsmier Hebert, two brothers, Leonard V. Hebert
and Winfred J. Hebert.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P. M. on Monday until 8:30 P. M. and from
8:00 A. M. on Tuesday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited
at 7:00 P. M. on Monday evening.
Pallbearers will be her brother-in-law, Thomas Johnson, her nephews,
Edward Johnson, Clyde Leger Jr., Leo LaCroix Sr., Leonard Hebert, Braxton
Moody IV, Kevin Moody, Stephen Moody and Andrew Robertson.
For the funeral Mass, Carol Jean LaCroix and Rosalind Robertson, her
nieces, will serve as scripture readers. Her nieces Valerie Hensgens,
Margaret Gilbert and Elizabeth Gielen will lead the responsorial psalms.
Charlotte Leonards, Katherine Hundley, and Beverly Lagroue, also her
nieces, will be gift bearers.
Musical selections will include Ave Maria, Just a
Closer Walk with Thee, How Great Thou Art, and Gentle
Woman.
Beverly Marie Hebert Johnson was born in Rayne, Louisiana, on March
25, 1921 to Valery Leonard Hebert and Nettie Laura Plattsmier Hebert.
She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating with the class of
1937. After high school, she attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute
in Lafayette. She married Flemon Joseph Johnson in 1946. They were lifelong
residents of Rayne where they owned and operated Johnsons Drive
Inn for a number of years. Johnsons was known for its soda fountain
chocolate freezes and hamburgers.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Johnson served as copy editor of the Crowley
Post Herald. She was best known as Nannan Beverly as she and Uncle Pim
were like a second mom and dad to their many nieces and nephews and
great nieces and nephews. The Sunday dinners, that she prepared with
her mother and sisters, were greatly anticipated and enjoyed by her
family for many years. She loved having the whole family gather together
and carefully kept the family scrapbooks and history. She was an avid
reader and frequent visitor to the Rayne Library.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the
League of the Sacred Heart.
The family is grateful for the loving attention given to her by her
caregivers, Anna Gaspard, Elizabeth Deville, Jo Anne Guidry, Velta Landry,
Dean Comeaux, Freda Hanks and the assistance of Mr. Clem Suire to the
caregivers.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the kindnesses of Dr. Thomas Curtis
of Rayne and Dr. Paulette Blanchet of Lafayette and Hospice of Acadiana.

MOWATA - Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004,
at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota for Maurine Muller Heinen
Spears, 82, who died Saturday, August 21, 2004, at Lafayette General
Hospital.
Father David Broussard officiated the services. Burial was held in the
St. Lawrence Mausoleum in Mowata.
Visitation was observed from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 22 and
continued Monday from 7 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Prevost and her husband, Michael,
of Branch; three sons, Joe Heinen and his wife, Susan, of Evangeline,
Jerry Heinen of Branch and Frederick Heinen and his wife, Lynne, of
Branch; one brother, M.W. Buster Muller of Crowley; four
grandchildren, Jeremy and Erin Prevost, Frederick Heinen II and Matthew
Heinen and five step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michel and Etta Muller; her
first husband, Wilfred Fatty Heinen and her second husband,
Warren Spears.
Mrs. Spears was a native of Iota, a graduate of S.L.I. and a teacher
and librarian at Notre Dame High School. She also worked as a secretary
for Humble Oil Company.
In lieu of flowers the family requested that donations be made to St.
Francis Elementary School of Iota.

KAPLAN - Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2004
at Vincent Funeral Home honoring the life of Laures Mom Mom
Hebert, 89, who died August 22, 2004 at her residence.
She was laid to rest in Kaplan Cemetery. Rev. Emmanuel Okwaraocha officiated
at the services.
She is survived by one son, Royal Hebert and his wife, Debbie, of Kaplan;
one brother, Elton Meaux of Crowley; five grandchildren; three step
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren
and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wildes Hebert, four brothers,
Odelas, Willie, Obrey and Angles Meaux; two sisters, Mable Broussard
and Gladys Meaux.
The family requested that visiting hours were observed at Vincent Funeral
Home, 300 Eleazar Avenue in Kaplan on Sunday, August 22 from 4 p.m.
until 10 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. and Monday, August
23 from 8 a.m. until services.

KAPLAN - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2004
at Vincent Funeral Home honoring the life of Joseph Preston Faulk, 76,
who died August 21, 2004 at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
He was laid to rest in Mire Cemetery. Reverend Mr. Paul Roy Eleazar
officiated at the services.
He is survived by his mother, Theola Faulk of Kaplan; one son, Joseph
Preston Faulk, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; an aunt, Mae Mire of Crowley;
one brother, John Lloyd Faulk of Kaplan; two sisters, Marie Dorothy
Libersat of Lake Jackson, Texas and Della Mae Stoute of Crowley; one
grandchild, Josh Faulk of Tampa and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alcide J. Faulk and one niece,
Denise Ann Libersat.

87, who died Friday, August 20, 2004, at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley.

at the Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan.
Rosary will be Sunday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday, and will continue
on Monday at 8 a.m. with viewing until time of services.
Survivors include his one daughter, Stella Marceaux of Eunice; one granddaughter,
Mia Marceaux of Eunice; four great grandchildren and one brother, Danery
J. Simon of Madisonville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Abshire; two sons, Jerry Lee
and Alton, Jr Simon; his parents, Arsene Henry and Cyphien Simon; three
sisters, Lucia S. Bertrand, Ella Mae Stelly and Agnes S. Broussard and
two brothers, Dallas J. and Dewey J. Simon.
Mr. Simon was a retired oilfield worker and pipeline construction worker.
His hobbies were gardening and running Mardi Gras. He loved the outdoors
and his chow dogs.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004, at Duhon
Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Virgie Doucet Pryor, 75, who died
Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Lafayette General Hospital.
Burial was held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation began at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 21 with viewing until time
of services.
Survivors include her one son, Daniel Pryor and his wife, Judy of Maxie;
one daughter, Gayla Pryor of Crowley; three grandchildren, Tonya and
Chelsea Pryor and Joshua Meaux; one great grandson, Austin Doucet and
one daughter-in-law, Brenda Leger Pryor of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Pryor; two sons, Roger
and Marty Pryor; her parents, Antoine and Agnes Thibodeaux Doucet and
one brother, Merlin Doucet.
Ms. Pryor was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church and a very loving
and caring person.

Pete Babineaux, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St.
Joseph Catholic Church for David PETE Babineaux Jr., 92
who died at his residence Saturday August 21, 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys LeBlanc Babineaux of Rayne; one son,
Pete and his wife Kay Babineaux of Rayne; one daughter, Yvette and her
husband, Gary Richard of Rayne; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David T-Bob Babineaux
III; his parents David and Natalie Lopez Babineaux Sr. and three brothers.
Mr. Pete was owner of Louisiana Frog Company, a Rayne City Council Man
for 28 years, a member of Ducks Unlimited and he was also a member of
the Louisiana Parole Board.
Visitation will be Sunday August 22, from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. with
a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m., Visitation will continue Monday from
8 a.m. until services.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction
of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St.
Michaels Catholic Church in Crowley for Annie Guidry Villejoin,
71, who died on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
The visitation was observed on Friday, August 20, from 2 to 9:30 p.m.
with a Rosary recited at 6:30 and continued on Saturday from 8 a.m.
until service time.
Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Dewitt Villejoin of Crowley; two sons,
Kenneth Villejoin and his wife, Joanne of Lake Charles and Farrel Villejoin
and his wife Jan of Crowley; two granddaughters, Brooke V. LeJeune of
Lake Charles and Diane Villejoin of Crowley; two grandsons, Jarod Villejoin
of Lake Charles and André Villejoin of Crowley; one great granddaughter,
Hope LeJeune of Lake Charles and one great grandson, Chance LeJeune
of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cesair and Zula Pellerin Guidry
and one brother, Ernest Guidry.
Annie was owner/operator of Annies Beauty Shop for 30 years and
a resident of Crowley for the past 54 years.

Eve Dockins
DERIDDER - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August
17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder for Lovenia Eve Dockins,
73, who died Friday, August 13, 2004, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital.
Interment will be in Wednesday August 18, 2004; 11 a.m. at Woodlawn
Cemetery in Crowley. Father Danny Torres will officiate.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hixson Chapel.
Lovenia Eve Trahan Dockins was a graduate of Crowley High School and
lived in DeRidder for the past 38 years. She worked for and retired
from the U.S. Government. She attended and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic
Church in DeRidder, where she served as Lector. She was a very active
member and belonged to the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and Our
Lady of Lasalette Rosary Makers.
She leaves behind her son, Joseph Wayne and wife Beth Barber Dockins;
one grandson, Austin Dockins and one granddaughter, Allie Dockins, all
of Columbia, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Alvnia Rose Trahan) Thibodeaux
of Moss Bluff, and one brother Kernis (Blackie) and wife (Altia Daigle)
Trahan of Lake Charles, 2 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claudias (Lucia
Doucet) Trahan of Crowley; one nephew, one great nephew and one great
niece.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m.
in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Flora Chiasson,
age 77, the former Flora Miller, who died Saturday, August 14, 2004
at 4:05 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev.
Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Peters Catholic Church, will officiate
at the services.
She was a native of Morse and a resident of Carencro for over 15 years.
Mrs. Chiasson, a cafeteria cook with the Acadia Parish School System,
retired with over 19 years of service. She was a parishioner of St.
Peters Catholic Church.
Survivors include: one son, Mervin Chiasson and his wife, Paula of Lake
Charles; two daughters, Darnell Trahan and her husband, Kenneth of Carencro,
and Mona Chiasson of Moss Bluff; seven grandchildren, Cassie Broussard
and her husband, Travis of Hathaway, Nicole Pickle and her husband,
Doug of Jennings, Brittany Dalfrey of Crowley, Tyson Chiasson and Kara
Chiasson, both of Moss Bluff, Taylor Chiasson and Abby Chiasson, both
of Lake Charles; four great, grandchildren; and one sister, Zora M.
Richard of Estherwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave Miller and the former
Ella Leblanc, both natives of Morse; and by three brothers, Ernest Miller,
Walter Miller, and Harris Miller.
A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. until
10:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Mr. King was a member of the Presidential Ceremonial Guard at the Washington
Naval Yard. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served five years
aboard the USS Kitty Hawk as a Aerographer. He was a Petty Officer,
2nd Class, a student at the Baton Rouge Community College and was serving
in the Naval Reserve at the Naval Reserve Station in Belle Chasse, La.
He was an avid cross country runner and graduated from Crowley High
School in 1996 where he was a member of the chorus. He was also a member
of First Baptist Church in Crowley.

BEAUMONT- Loretta Houghton Matthews, 76, of Beaumont died, August 9,
2004 at Houston Northwest Medical Center.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Loretta had been a resident of
Beaumont since 1966 and was a Bookkeeper for Gordons Jewelers.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Eric Matthews of Beaumont and David
Matthews and his wife Rita of Austin; daughters, Deborah Guttilla and
her husband, Sal and Carol Harrell and her husband, Jesse all of Houston;
sisters, Harriet Felber of Crowley, Louisiana and Elizabeth Hebert Leger
of Lafayette, Louisiana; brother, Charles Houghton of Crowley; seven
grandchildren, Emily Matthews, Gabi Matthews, Kai Matthews, Megan Harrell,
Rebecca Harrell, Hannah Harrell and Sara Guttilla; along with numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Matthews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, August
13, 2004 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church under the direction of

73, who died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 8:40 p.m. at her residence.

Gilbert Nelson

Gale Gilbert Nelson passed from this life to the next, on August 10,
2004. She was surrounded by family and friends who loved her. Gale had
battled breast cancer for 16 years with God by her side and lost her
life to this disease at the age of 50.
Gale was born in Crowley on November 11, 1953 to her parents, Bert and
Ramona Marquart Gilbert, who have both preceded her in death. She was
raised a country girl on the family farm south of Crowley on Hwy. 13.
She was a graduate of Crowley High School, Class of 1971 and attended
McNeese State University. She worked in the insurance industry, catering
and was recently self-employed in antique sales in Crowley and Opelousas.
Gale prided herself most in her devoted role of mother and grandmother.
She leaves behind her memory in a new endeavor called Remember
Me, a talcum powder shaker she designed to help her granddaughter,
Lundyn, remember her each night at bedtime.
Gale was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crowley where
she did volunteer church work. She and her daughter, Tiffany, founded
the Krewe of LAcadie in 2002 and Gale and her husband, Wes, served
as the first King and Queen in 2003. She was previously an active member
of the Krewe of Cosmos in Sulphur.
Gales adventurous and free spirit led her to live her life to
the fullest. Her journey included many travels, camping, gardening,
scrap booking and antiquing. She loved the water and enjoyed spending
time by her pool, at the beach or near a lake.
Gales life was changed when she was diagnosed with cancer, but
she was never bitter and felt her life was enriched by her many friendships
and experiences.
Gale is survived by her husband of 30 years, Wes D. Nelson of Crowley;
one daughter, Tiffany Nelson Shreve and her husband, Garrett of Crowley;
one son, Jason Rock Nelson and his wife, Emily Trahan of
Waxahachie, Texas; one granddaughter, Lundyn Gale Shreve; one grandson,
Boston Blaine Shreve; two sisters, Carole Gilbert-Purcell of San Clemente,
Calif. and Janet Boudreaux and her husband, Roland of Rayne; one brother,
Bart Gilbert and his wife, Pauline of Crowley; her mother-in-law, Mary
Nelson of Crowley; one sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson Murrell and her husband,
David of Crowley; two brothers-in-law, Byron Ronkartz of Carencro, and
Sandy Hoffpauir of Upper Marlboro, Md.; paternal aunts, Audry Dickey
and her husband, Ansel of Friendswood, Texas, and Bea Crouch and her
husband, Jodie of San Rayburn, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004 at
First United Methodist Church in Crowley. Rev. Bob Hollis pastor of
First United Methodist Church will be officiating for the services with
Rev. Lloyd Singley pastor of Northside Assembly of God Church assisting.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 321 Third
Street in Crowley on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from
8 a.m. until the time of service. A Remember Me service
will be held from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Wednesday for family and friends to
share memories of Gale and to celebrate her life.

the life of Francis Abshire Sr., 77, who died August 8, 2004 at his
residence.

LA - Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004
in Mothe Funeral Home Chapel for Evans Paul Tip Thibodeaux,
Sr., 78. Mr. Thibodeaux died at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2004
at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero.
Mr. Thibodeaux was a native of Acadia Parish and at the time of his
death he was a resident of Harvey, La. He was retired vice president
of Master Provision and Supply Company. He was an Army veteran of World
War II and a member of the Masonic Daylight Lodge 412.
Survivors include his wife, Bette Doucet Thibodeaux of Harvey; two daughters,
Pam T. DuBose and her husband, Jim of Crowley and Darlene T. Williams

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Leonard and Maudie Emeline

A native of Bradley, Arkansas and a resident of Lafayette for 45 years,
Mr. Houston served his country proudly as a veteran of military service
in the United States Army during World War II in the European and Pacific
Theatre of Operations.

Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Johnny Michael Leger, 57,
of Pasadena, Texas. Mr. Leger died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Michael
E. DeBakey Veterans Hospital.
Interment was in Leger Cemetery in Rayne with Father Rusty Richard officiating.
Mr. Leger loved his country and served it proudly in the United States
Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a proud owner of a Harley Davidson
which he used to travel the openness of his country. He will be sadly
missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Diana McClain of Pasadena, Texas; one daughter,
Angie Leger and her husband Tim Kaley of Arlington, Texas; one brother,
Albert Leger and his wife Pat of Crowley; four grandchildren, Amy Pryor,

Lorraine
Merritt Humble
Lorraine Merritt Humble died peacefully Saturday, July 31. She was born
in Branch, Louisiana, to Beulah and Ira Merritt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon G. Humble and her daughter,
Linda Lorraine Humble. She is survived by her devoted sons, James Hoyt
Humble of Houston and Weldon G. Humble, Jr. of New York; her sister,
Henrietta Bruner of Lafayette, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews.
A beauty queen during her college years, Lorraine was a graduate of
University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. Lorraine met her
future husband while she was attending USL, where he was in training
as a United States Marine before serving overseas during World War II.
After the war, she came to Houston and taught at River Oaks Elementary
School, while her new husband pursued his successful football career;
first as an All-American at Rice University, and then as an All-Pro
for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Texans.
When Humble turned to banking, Lorraine busied herself with raising

Bough. Later she was employed at Stationers, Intl. and was co-owner
of the Village Boutique for several years. Known for her quick wit and
effortless charm, Lorraine enjoyed a good book, playing the piano and
being able to grow a perfect amaryllis. She was never happier than when
she was holding a winning bridge hand and she will be missed by her
coffee drinking bridge partners and friends.
A Celebration of Lorraine's life was Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 11:00
a.m. at Memorial Drive Baptist Church, 325 Piney Point, Houston, Texas
77024, with Rev. James W. Doremus officiating. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations be made in Lorraine's memory to Memorial Drive
Baptist Church. Lorraine loved her church, and was a devoted member
there for 45 years.

Moise Ferrier Thibodeaux, 82, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at
the Rayne Guest Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday,
August 3 at St. Edmund Church in Branch. Burial was in the church cemetery

in New Orleans.
Mr. Davy donated his body to science. He was a resident of Crowley and
will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

and two sisters, Linnie Dale Reed and Deborah Davy.

at St. Joseph Catholic Church in lota for Steven Louis Robbins, 31,
who died at Sunday, August 1, 2004.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate the services. Burial will be in the
St. Joseph Cemetery of Iota. Visiting hours are observed Monday from
5 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary was recited
at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Steven was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Leroy Robbins, Jr.;

Dr. Rayburn, 77, of Pineville, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at
his home in Pineville.
Dr. Rayburn was born November 28, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944
and served in World War II. After completing his service to his country,
he attended Louisiana Tech University in 1947. After graduating from
Louisiana Tech in 1950, he attended medical school at Louisiana State
University at New Orleans and graduated in 1954. He was a physician
for 50 years and practiced in the Pineville area for 35 years. He was
a 50 year Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lane Rayburn, Sr. and
Mrs. Emma Landrum Rayburn and his sister, Mrs. Anita Rayburn Blake.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Flossie Robison Rayburn;
four sons, Albert Lane Rayburn, III, PhD and his wife Virginia of Monticello,
Ill; Dr. Dave M. Rayburn and his wife Deborah of Pineville; Dr. Bruce
E. Rayburn and his wife Lori of Pineville; James R. Rayburn, PhD and
his wife Lisa of Jacksonville, Ala.; one brother, Bertis E. Rayburn

Jo Fluitt Murff, 65, who died Tuesday, July 27, 2004.
Burial was held at the Gueydan Memorial Cemetery.

at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for James Lee Jimmy
Miller, 66, who died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Egan.
Fr. David Broussard and Fr. Byron Miller, CSSR will officiate for the
services at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota. Burial will be held
in the church cemetery.
Visitation was observed on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., Sunday
from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
A rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Survivors include wife, Clara Broussard Miller of Egan; four daughters:
Shirley Meyer and her husband, Lee of Crowley; Pat M. Derbes and her
husband Tommy of Crowley; Gayla M. Dupont and her husband Daren of Egan
and Laura M. Heinen and her husband Ricky of Egan; one son, Terry Miller
and his wife, Mandy of Egan; one sister, Betty Cure of Buras, La.; one
brother, John Calvin Miller of Crowley; eleven grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rita Simar Miller;

Miller.

Brown-Holley Funeral Home Chapel in Rayville for Beulah Mae Walters,
67, of Archibald. Burial followed in Lynn Cemetery in Archibald.
Mrs. Walters was a member of the Archibald Church of Christ. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Loyd Williams and a sister
Louise Huff.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Walters (a columnist for Louisiana
State Newspapers) of Archibald; a daughter, Stacy Walters of Archibald;
one son, Robert P. Walters of Gulfport, Ms.; one sister, Eula Littleton
of Point; and one brother, Roy Williams of Start.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Williams, Gary Williams, Perry Huff, David
Singley, Curtis Littleton and Gordy Walters.

- Emma Jane Gary, 68, of Rayne died Thursday, July 29, 2004,
