Lloyd James
GONZALES – Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31 at 8 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Lloyd James, 77, who died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004 at his residence in Gonzales.
Reverend Richard Sadlier will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Port Barre.
Mr. James was a rice mill operator and served as an Army PFC during the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart for time served during the War.
Survivors include three daughters, Louella Charles of Gonzales; Mary Alice Jerry of Grand Coteau and Patricia Odom of New Orleans; three sons, James Lloyd Jr. of Opelousas, Sam Lloyd of Opelousas and John Joseph “T. John” Savoy of Crowley; 21 grand children and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Lloyd; his wife, Lena Lloyd; one son, Samuel Charles; one daughter, Roselia Castile; two brothers, Evans Taylor and Clarence Lloyd and two sisters, Inez Harris and Florence Jean Lewis.
Pallbearers will be Jessie Jones, Danny Castille and Quinton Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Charles Jr., Daryl Bourgeois, Tyler Castille, Ricky Joseph Savoy, Shaquille Montrelle Savoy, Arthur Lee Taylor, Lawerence Pickney and J.C. Hawkins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawson Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home.

Kevin Paul Smith
CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Kevin Paul Smith, 37, of Crowley, who died Tuesday, December 28, 2004.
Officiating for the service will be Rev. Sigmund Richard and music will be performed by Florence Martin. Burial will be held in Abshire Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Survivors include one daughter, Christine Thibodeaux of Morse; one son, Kaine Gass of Estherwood; his father, Russell Smith of Estherwood; his mother, Mary Abshire Kibodeaux of Crowley; his step-father, Rev. Roy Kibodeaux of Crowley; one brother, Valerian (Val) Smith of California; two step-sisters, Kathy Duncan of Crowley and Debbie Comeaux of Abita Springs; three step-brothers, R.J. Kibodeaux and Troy Kibodeaux, both of Crowley and Chet Kibodeaux of Sulphur.
Pallbearers include, Blaine Guillory, Pee Wee Kibodeaux, Blaceson Gass, Chris Gass, David Gass and Val Smith.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

LAFAYETTE – Beo Melancon, 94, died Tueasday, Dec. 28, 2004 at the Crowley Guests House. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 31 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Maurice under the direction of Delhomme Funeral Home.

CHURCH POINT – Chaise Joel Richard, 20, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 in Three Rivers, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home.

Amos Stewart
CROWLEY – He was known as the “old soldier.” He was truly our hero.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St Michael's Catholic Church for Amos Stewart, 85, who passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2004. Interment will be at Maxie Cemetery. Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate at the services.
Mr. Stewart was a World War II veteran that proudly served in the United States Army, 169th Infantry, 43rd Division, 2nd Battalion. He fought six major battles that included New Guinea, Guadal Canal, Northern Solomons, Luzon, New Georgia and the Philippines (Asiatic-Pacific Campaign). He received numerous medals such as the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge F0408, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifleman Medal. He also received the prestigious Presidential Citation.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Stewart Whitley and husband Don of Bossier City and Rebecca Stewart of Lafayette; one grandson, Tye Christopher Whitley and wife Michelle; their daughter (his sha little darlin') Jillian Eve Whitley of Lake Charles; one brother, Joseph Stewart of Crowley; nephew, Gene Stewart (his special angel); Naomi Myers, sister-in-law; Clifford LeJeune and numerous nieces and nephews. Also included for their love of Mr. Stewart, were foreign exchange students, Elena Bakeheeeva of Russia, Dusan Nogulovic of Yugoslavia, Eliana and Paula Posada of Columbia, South America. They affectionally referred to Mr. Stewart as “Paw Paw.”
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years (the love of his life) Mary Melancon Stewart; six brothers: Ben, Roy and Bill Stewart and Walter, Offard and Isaac Cormier and his three sisters; Rose Anna Stewart, Mae Nolan and Alice Istre.
Visiting hours were observed Tuesday at Duhon Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visiting hours will also be observed from 8 a.m. until service time,Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tye Christopher Whitley, Christopher Wayne Melancon, Christopher Brent Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Noah Fruge and Jimmy (Beanie) Melancon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Melancon, Wayne Melancon, Gene Stewart, Darwin Hayes, Randy Hoffpauir, Lawrence Cormier and Wendell Wyatt. Charles Broussard will serve as Eucharistic Minister and Larry Broussard will read the selected scriptures. Music will be by L.J. Dailey.
The family is deeply grateful to Kathy Murphy, Earline Stewart, Charlene Melancon, Audry Fruge, Paula Wyatt and Harry Shreve.

Jane Marie Menard
KAPLAN – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at 2 p.m., at a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church will honor the life of Jane Marie Menard, 22, who died Dec. 27, 2004 at Abbeville General Hospital.
She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend William Rogalla officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Romero, Benji Duhon, Brady Duhon, Kelly Romero, Kirk Romero and Patrick Broussard.
She is survived by her parents, Randy and Theresa Menard of Kaplan; her fiancé, Joshua Paul Myers of Crowley; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Menard of Cow Island; five sisters, Nicky and husband, Keith Stansbury, of Abbeville; Dawn and husband, Eddie Thibodeaux, of Abbeville; Tracy and husband ,André Doré, of Cow Island; Randi Menard, of Kaplan; and Kylie Menard of Kaplan; and four nieces, Maci Ardoin, Makenzi Ardoin (her godchild), Madison Thibodeaux and Lillie Thibodeaux.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leroy and Bertha Jane Romero and her brother, Randy James Menard.
Visiting hours were observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 300 Eleazar Avenue, Kaplan, Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will also be observed Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 8 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home.

Jeanne Comeaux Gaspard
CROWLEY – A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Jeanne Comeaux Gaspard, 92, who passed away Monday Dec. 27, 2004 at her residence in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will be officiating for the services. A rosary will be lead by Sister Justina Baker at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
A native of Milton and the daughter of Dua and Ada Trahan Comeaux, Mrs. Gaspard graduated as valedictorian of her high school class at age 15 and was a 1931 graduate of S.L.I. in Lafayette.
A resident of Crowley for over 60 years, Mrs. Gaspard was an active parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ladies Alter Society, Come Lord Jesus and bible study groups. She also taught at St. Michael Elementary School.
She is survived by her son, Charles Gaspard of Lafayette and her sister Evelyn Comeaux Dela Houssaye and husband Sydney of Crowley.
Mrs. Gaspard is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Liny Gaspard; her parents, her infant daughter, Jeanette Marie Gaspard; three sisters, Marie Comeaux, Ruby Comeaux Denais, and Mae Comeaux Castleman and four brothers, Robley Comeaux, Maurice Comeaux, Paul Comeaux and Jimmy Comeaux.
Visitation may be observed Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to the time of service.
Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Falcon Cavalier
RAYNE – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 28, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Ruth Falcon Cavalier, 80, who died Dec. 25, 2004 at her residence in Rayne.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Cavalier and Jan Cavalier both of Rayne; one brother, Frank Falcon Jr. of New Iberia; five sisters, Julia LaCroix, Nazida “Ziddy” and husband T.J. Petitjean, Louetta and husband U.J. “Ducky” Prevost, all of Rayne, Pearl and husband Preston Trosclair of Lafayette and Jeanne and husband Joe Dinette of New Iberia; one brother-in-law, Ben Meyer Sr. of Rayne and one sister-in-law, Mona Falcon of Rayne.
Pallbearers will be Ben Meyer Sr., Frank Falcon Jr., Joel Falcon, Ben Meyer Jr., T.J. Petitjean and Jean Hebert.
She was a member of St. Joseph Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and a member of the Roberts Cove Homemaker’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Quentin Cavalier; her parents Frank and Dora Hoffpauir Falcon Sr.; her step-mother Julia B. Falcon; one brother, Clyde Falcon and one sister, Virginia Meyer.
Visitation was Monday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. and will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until services.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home.

Connie Andrus
EUNICE – Funeral services for Connie Andrus will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with burial following in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Msgr. Harry Beneftel will officiate.
Mrs. Andrus, 58, a resident of Eunice, died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at the Opelousas General Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Andrus was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Burnis Cooper.
The visitation began at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 27 at noon and will remain open all night until time of service on Tuesday. A rosary was recited Monday evening at 7 p.m.
Survivors include her husband, Barney Andrus Jr. of Eunice; her mother, Loretta Bollich Gaspard of Hardy, Ark.; her sons, Corey Allen Andrus and wife Missy of Iota and Erik Kyle Andrus of Eunice; her brothers, Kenneth Cooper and wife Debbie of Grove, Okla. and Randel Cooper of Lake Charles; her sisters, Carol Feucht and husband Benny of Grove, Sharon Murphy and husband Jim of Eunice and Wendy Cooper of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Victoria Krystine Andrus, Hunter Allen Andrus, Caroline Elizabeth Andrus and Kathryn Abigail Andrus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Miller Clarke
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church for Marilyn Miller Clarke, 72, who died Friday, Dec, 24, 2004 at her residence in Crowley.
Reverend Bob Hollis officiated for the services. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Sunday from 2:30 to 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Survivors include one daughter, Allison Clarke of Washington, DC; three sons, Kenneth Clarke of Crowley, Steve Clarke and wife Helen of Rosemont, Minn., Joey Clarke and wife Jane of Houston; one brother, Richard Miller and wife Betty of Crowley; five grandchildren, Claire Frances Clarke, Caitlin Jean Clarke, Joseph Clarke, Matthew Clarke and Madelyn Jo Clarke.
Mrs. Clarke was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. Clarke, Jr.; one son, Richard Clarke; her parents, Roy and Iberia Evans Miller; one sister, Frances M. Earles.

CROWLEY – Rose Ella Bertrand Sarver, 84, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was held in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

EUNICE – Nehemiah Umoja Ricky Oliver, infant, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at University Medical Center of Louisiana in New Orleans. Burial was held Monday, Dec. 27 at Jerusalem BC Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

Hollis Reed Taylor
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Northside Assembly of God Church in Crowley for Hollis Reed Taylor, “Mimi” 91, who died December 20, 2004 at Town and Country Nursing Home in Minden.
Rev. Loyd Singley will be officiating for the services. Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Swain and husband Woody of Minden and Joan Marin and husband Manny of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; her son, Thomas Taylor and wife Marilyn of League City, Texas; her sister, Milly Crippen and husband Louis of Huntsville, Texas; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a special niece Milly Ann Crippen of Houston and numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend " Dingo."
Mrs. Taylor is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Taylor; her parents, Robert and Mabel Thibodeaux Reed and three brothers, Buddy, Bucky, and Art Reed.
Visitation may be observed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Northside Assembly of God Church, 809 E.Northern, Crowley, LA. 70526- Designated for Mission in honor of Mrs. Taylor.

CROWLEY – Edward Lawrence “Larry” Comeaux, 50, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26 at Woodlawn with Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Enolia Smith Welch
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Enolia Smith Welch, 80, who died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital.
Father Sonny Brown officiated for the services. Burial was held in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed from 8 a.m. Wednesday until service time.
Survivors include six sons, Allen R. Welch and wife Karen, Lawrence Welch Jr., Melvin J. Welch and wife Daralene, Calvin J. Welch and wife Lora, Alvin Dale Welch and wife Marlene and Jamie L. Welch and friend Laurie, all of Crowley; one daughter, Clara Duhon and husband Michael of Crowley; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Welch was born in New Iberia and lived most of her life in Crowley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Smith and Elia Viator; her husband, L. C. “Bob” Welch; one son, one daughter, four brothers and three sisters.

CROWLEY – Rapheal Steven Cormier, 16, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 at Cunningham C.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the South Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

CHURCH POINT – Evelma G. Lewis, 60, died Monday, Dec. 20 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Our Mother of Mercy Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

CROWLEY – Christopher Roy Wheeler, 22, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Good Shepherd Revival in Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

Fredria Bertrand Jr.
JENNINGS – Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for Fredria Bertrand Jr., 71, who died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with full military rites. Father Ted Broussard and Father Thomas Perrier conducted the service.
Fredria Bertrand Jr., beloved son of Rozena F. Bertrand and the late Fredria Bertrand, Sr. was born Nov. 3, 1933 in Rosenberg, Texas and died Dec. 18, 2004 in Jennings. Fred was a graduate of St. Francis Academy, lota and SLI (UL) Lafayette. He served four years in the US Air Force as a navigator and instructor. He managed and operated B M Oil, lnc., an oilfield workover and production company in the Evangeline area for over 30 years. Fred, Jr., shared his love of camping and travel across the US and Mexico with his extended family. His favorite food was Mexican, which reflected his great love for Mexico and his dreams of retiring there some day. He was fascinated with trains especially steam engines. Fred collected model trains and cookbooks. His greatest love was the oilfield, black gold flowed through his veins.
Survivors include his daughter, Ashley LeGros and husband Jeffery of Evangeline; his mother, Rozena F. Bertrand of Jennings; four sisters, Ema Gary of Crowley; Frances Babin of Gueydan; Sister Nancy Bertrand of New Orleans and Margaret Bertrand of Jennings; two grandchildren, Makayla and Jeffery LeGros of Evangeline and over 50 nieces and nephews spanning three generations and countless cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fredria Bertrand Sr. two brothers, Michael Joseph Bertrand and his sister, Patricia Ann Bertrand.
Visitation was observed on Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Benjamin Bertrand, Matthew Bertrand, Marcus Fontenot, Christopher Bertrand, Paul Gary, Glen Gary, Hampton Campbell and Brian Lecket. Honorary Pallbearers were Michael Bertrand Jr., Jeffery LeGros Sr. and Jeffery LeGros Jr.

EVANGELINE – Mildred R. Doucet, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at the United Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in the Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home.

CHURCH POINT – Margaret H. Sennet, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 19 at Acadia St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Our Mother of Mercy Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

CROWLEY – Joe LeJeune, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Crowley Guest Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Estherwood Memorian Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

RAYNE – Edwin Joseph Picard, 85, Sunday, Dec. 19 at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Woodlawn mausoleum in Crowley under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

Harry H. Milton
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church for Harry H. Milton, 78, who died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at American Legion Hospital.
Dr. Hilliard Comeaux will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Friday from 1:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Survivors include his wife, Virgie Fruge Milton of Crowley; one daughter, Elizabeth "Cissy" Carlson and her husband Tom of Atascocita, Texas; two sons, Buddy Milton and his wife Peggy of Crowley, Greg Milton and his wife Charlotte of Crowley; one sister, Wanda M. Coffing and her husband Courtney of King, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Bradley Milton., Natalie Milton, Myles Milton, Allison Milton, Nicholas Milton, Eric Milton and Courtney Carlson; two step-sons, Larry Mistric of Port Neches, Texas and Gerald Noel of Opelousas; five step-grandchildren, Matt Mistric, Nathan Mistric, Leigh Mistric, Kim Burkey and Angie Shaheen.
Mr. Milton was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Laughlin Milton and his parents, Herbert and Mae Clark Milton.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and a Veteran of the Navy having served during World War II.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Milton, Myles Milton, Tom Carlson, Larry Coffing, Larry Mistric and Matt Mistric.
The family request memorial contributions to First Christian Church, 824 West 14th Street, Crowley, LA 70526.

Leona Marie Zaunbrecher
RAYNE – Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at a St. Leo IV Catholic Church for Leona Marie Zaunbrecher, 94, who died Saturday, December 18, 2004 at Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crowley.
Burial will be in St. Leo IV Cemetery. The family request visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Miss Zaunbrecher was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm Zaunbrecher and Marie Walburga Heinen, both immigrants who settled in Roberts Cove in the 1880’s from Schierwaldenrath and Gillrath areas of Germany; six brothers, Nicholas, William Frederick, Henry, Charles, Joseph and Anton Zaunbrecher; four sisters, Helen Z. Dischler, Augusta Z. Leonards, Annie Z. Leonards and Gertude Zaunbercher who died as an infant.
She was an active member of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove. She was a member of St. Leo’s Altar Society, and has served as president.
The family expressed heartfelt thanks to the many family members and friends who gave their support and prayers at this time of need.

Shirley Peyrefitte Lund
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 18 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Catholic Church for Shirley Peyrefitte Lund, 91, who died Friday, December 17, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Home.

Survivors include her two daughters, Karen Lund Beard and her husband Leonard of Crowley and Cathy Lund Vaughn and her husband Bob of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Courtney Beard Nickel and her husband Stephen of Crowley, Steward Beard of Baton Rouge and Bradley Beard of Ruston; three great grand-children and one sister, Marilyn Peyrefitte Coleman of Honduras.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. “Billy” Lund, Jr.; her parents, Gonzalo August and Catherine Anna Braun Peyrefitte and one brother, Ashton Gonzalo Peyrefitte.
Mrs. Lund was born in New Orleans and attended Saint Mary of the Pines School and Ursuline Academy. She was a resident of Crowley since 1935. She was a member of the Sierra Club and the American Legion Hospital Pink Ladies. She was a parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church where she served as a lay minister, a member of the choir, Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Saint Michael Alter Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael Elementary, 805 East Northern Crowley, LA 70526, Notre Dame High School, 910 North Eastern Ave., Crowley, LA 70526 and Hospice of Louisiana and Palliative Care, 522 North Main, Jennings, LA 70546.

CHURCH POINT – Murphy Citizen, 68, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Crowley.

Robert Wayne Saltzman
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Robert Wayne Saltzman, 57, who died Dec. 15, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Father Gary Schexnayder will be officiating for the services. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Saltzman served his country during The Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army.

Mr. Saltzman was preceded in death by his father, Talton Saltzman; two brothers, Willard and Clayton Saltzman; his mother-in-law, Donna Erickson, his father-in-law, Herbert Welch, one sister-in-law, Delores Saltzman and two brothers-in-law, Mack Shedd and Tony Lima.

NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at Acadian Funeral Home for Lou Ella Istre Leblanc, 67, who died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at her residence.
Burial will be in Beau Pre Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Monday, Dec. 13 from 1 p.m. until time of services.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Dewey Leblanc of New Iberia; six children, Lillian Faye Williams, Michael LeBlanc and his wife Vanessa, Paul LeBlanc and Christine Breaux, all of New Iberia; Janet Bourque and Eddie LeBlanc and his wife Louella, all of The Woodlands, Texas; two brothers, Linus Istre of Crowley and Donald Istre of Sulphur; eleven grandchildren and four great grand-children.
Mrs. Leblanc was preceded in death by her father, Edward Istre and her mother, Althea Champagne Istre.
Mrs. Leblanc was a Crowley native and a resident of The Woodlands, Texas. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed quilt-making. She worked with her husband at their place of business, Leblanc Vault and Monument Company.

Mrs. Leger was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and a past member of the Ladies Altar Society.

Daniel Robert Rastley
IOTA - Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Iota for Daniel Robert Rastley, 42, who died November 20, 2004 in Newcastle, Indiana.
Rev. Larry Evans will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Maxie Cemetery. The family request visiting hours be observed Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 8 a.m to service time.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Leckelt Rastley of Iota; four children, Melissa, Randy, Melanie, Dennis and one granddaughter, Janet; his mother, Cora Ann Clark Perkins; eight siblings, Don, Tina, Joy, Tammy, Andy, Donna Lee, Wade and Billy; one step-daughter, Lindsay Courville and two step-sons, Ronald Courville and Shane Benoit.
Daniel served in the Armed Forces from 1979 to 1994 and served during the Persian Gulf War. Although Daniel adopted Texas as his home be always had wandering feet and he began driving for a long haul trucking company. This work kept his feet moving from place to place, which is what he loved.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Don Richard Rastley of Gouverneur, New York, who retired from the Armed Forces.

Lorraine Landry Hulme

Ms. Hulme is preceded in death by her husband, Mansford “Tex” Hulme; one sone, David Allen Hulme; her parents, Valery and Azlee Landry; four brothers, Lou, Tolson and James Landry and Andrew Trahan; two sisters, Lavenia and Irene Landry. She was a member of Northside Assembly Church.

Gordon Edward Tate
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata for Gordon Edward Tate, 70, who died December 7, 2004 near Loredo, Texas.
Father George Heffner will be officiating for the services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Mausoleum.
Gordon a resident of Midland, Texas was born February 3, 1934 in San Antonio to Charles and Louise Notzon Tate, Sr. He attended Mount Sacred Heart School and Central Catholic High School. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets. After graduation Gordon served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force for two years. He had a successful 31 year career with Magnolia Petroleum Co., The Superior Oil Company and Mobil Oil. Gordon was a registered professional engineer in Texas and Louisiana; a registered real estate broker in Texas and Louisiana, and a South Texas Rancher where he oversaw a cattle operation for 35 years. He owned and operated an environmental company, Superior Consultants, Inc., for 14 years. Mr. Tate also volunteered his time to Texas A&M as a Guest Lector. Gordon was an active member of the Republican Party and served as Precinct Chairman for a number of years. He also was an Election Judge for over 30 years. As a young man, Gordon was a member of The Association of Texas Pioneers. Later, when living in Louisiana, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Gordon was also a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans having served as West Texas Brigade Commander. He also belonged to The Order of the Southern Cross.
In 1963 Gordon married Genevieve Zaunbrecher in Lafayette and remained a loving and faithful husband for the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Tate of Midland; three sons, Maj. Gordon Edward Tate, Jr., PhD and wife Jana of San Antonio, Gregory Scott Tate, DDS, MD and wife Andrea of Nacogdoches, Texas and Mark Patrick Tate and wife Marcy of Keller, Texas; six grandsons, Ryan, Jacob, Matthew, Travis, Connor and Jackson Tate; one granddaughter, Emily Tate; one brother, Charles William Tate, Jr. of Denver, Colo. and one sister, Barbara Tate Johnson of San Antonio.
Mr. Tate is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louise Notzon Tate, Sr.
Visitation may be observed Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Jack L. Lyons Jr.
CROWLEY – On Wednesday December 8, 2004 Jack L Lyons Jr., 78, passed away peacefully at home. Many loved Jack Lyons and his skills as a photographer. His skills and knowledge were an inspiration to all he worked with. Jack’s happy spirit and numerous jokes made him very enjoyable company. His love for those around him was very apparent by his open generosity.
In concordance with this generosity he chose to have his body donated to LSU for research. Memorial services will be held at Elizabeth Memorial Church in Branch on Saturday December 11, 2004 at 10 am. Visitation with the family will be directly after the service.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda R Lyons; one son, Richard M Lyons; one sister, Martha L. Lyons; one niece, Michelle Martinez and husband Derek; one daughter-in-law Laura Lyons; five grandchildren, Jeff Lyons and fiancé Michelle Guillot, Michelle LaPradd and husband David, Kathryn Lyons, Elizabeth Lyons and Jennifer Lyons and one great grandchild, Anna Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack Sr. and Hilda Lyons.

Arnold Joseph Gielen Jr.
CROWLEY – Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley for Arnold Joseph “Fonfé” Gielen Jr., 63, who died Tuesday Dec. 7, 2004 in Crowley.
Sister Justina will pray a rosary Thursday at 6:30 p.m., while visitation may be observed from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mr. Gielen was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country from 1962-1966 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, Calif. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He also owned Deano’s Pizzarama in Lompoc, Calif. until 1971. Mr. Gielen then moved to Lafayette and joined his father as general manager and eventually owner of Gielen Oil Co. in Crowley. Fonfé was also an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He will be remembered as a generous person that could always make you laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Gielen is survived by his mother, Eloise Mouton Gielen of Crowley; one daughter, Stacey Gielen Vogl and her husband Brian of St. Charles, Minn.; two grandchildren, Brennan James Vogl and Channing Elyse Vogl; one brother, Marvin Gielen of Mesquite, Nev. and one sister Gretchen Gielen Hebert of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold J. Gielen Sr., former Mayor of the City of Crowley.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

Doris Broussard Mayard
CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 10 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Doris Broussard Mayard, 89, who died Dec. 7, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Center.
She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Mausoleum with Reverend William Blanda officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Mark Mayard, Andy Hebert, John Trimble, Roland Douglas, Michael Lattier and James Lattier. Honorary pallbearer is Neil Lattier.
Mrs. Mayard will be remembered as a great teacher. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Glynn Mayard and his wife Marie of Crowley and David Mayard and his wife Kay of Abbeville; five grandchildren; Stephanie Hebert of Crowley, Beth Falterman of New lberia, Chris Mayard of Pineville, Lori Simon of Abbeville and Mark Mayard of Henry; one great granddaughter, Anna-Kate Hebert of Crowley and a sister, Lois "Mickey" Trimble of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dois Mayard, her parents; Aurelle and the former Zulmae Dore Broussard and a sister, Gladys Lattier.

Lavergne from Opelousas, Carrol Lavergne of Opelousas and Kenneth Lavergne of Opelousas; three sisters, Irma L. Quirk and Roselyn L. Soileau, both of Opelousas and Elizabeth L. Sonnier of Baton Rouge; two sisters-in-law, Madie Ruth Dotson of Houston, Texas and Margaret Barry of Grand Coteau; eight grandchildren, Lisa Barry, Ashley Barry, Kristen Barry, Paul Coussan, Joe Coussan, Caroline Barry Catherine Barry and William Barry; two step-grandchildren, Katy and Mica Bumpus and fourteen godchildren.
Mrs. Barry is preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Barry; her mother, Louise Sibille Lavergne, her father, Joseph D. Lavergne and two brothers, Bernard and Eugene Lavergne.
Mrs. Barry was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, having taught in Acadia, St. Landry and Orleans Parishes. She was a member of the Court of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Daughters of the Americas, was co-founder with her husband Walter A. Barry of Church Point Pharmacy in 1951, board of directors of Muscular Dystrophy Association, member of Church Point Area Chamber of Commerce, an eucharistic minister and a member of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association.
Singer for the services will be Steve Steinmetz accompanied by organist Cecile Johnson. Song selections will include, “Ava Maria,” “Amazing Grace,” “Hail Mary Gentle Woman,” “Let There be Peace on Earth,” “Battle Hymn” and “Be Not Afraid.”
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Guidry Funeral Home will be entrusted with the arrangements.

Lillian Lavergne Barry
CHURCH POINT - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Lillian Lavergne Barry, 81, who died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
Monsignor Fred Swenson will officiate for the services. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services. Rosary will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum #1.

Daniel Abbott Boone Dietz
IOTA – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Daniel Abbott Boone Dietz, 73, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at his residence.
Father David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Iota City Cemetery. Visitation began on Monday at 1 p.m. and will last until service time on Tuesday. A rosary was recited Monday at 6 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Frances S. “Frannie” Dietz of Iota; one brother, Thomas Joseph Dietz of Iota; and four sisters, Evelyn Juanita Trumps of Iota, Willie Belle Hebert of Egan, Betty Louise Dietz of Iota and Brenda Joyce Hunt of Ragley.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Dietz and three brothers, Donald David Dietz Sr., William Russell Dietz and John Edward Dietz.
Mr. Dietz was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

IOTA – Eula Hebert Ledoux, 74, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at Basile Care Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.

Chelsea Kershaw
JENNINGS – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel of Jennings for Chelsea Marie Kershaw, 12, who died December 3, 2004 at 6:55 p.m. at Tulane Medical Center of New Orleans. Burial will be in Sensat Cemetery of Egan.
Kershaw was a native of Egan and a resident of Jennings. She attended Iota Middle School and loved to collect movies and watch TV. She loved and was loved by family and friends.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Anthony Wayne and Tamela Kershaw of Crowley; mother and stepfather, Tammy and Jessie Brantley of Jennings; one brother, Tony Kershaw of Jennings; one sister, Lacie Kershaw of Jennings; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Patsy Caswell of Jennings and Hilda Caswell of Jennings; great-grandparents, Clerda Miller of Egan and Mazie Caswell of Jennings and one niece, Krischen Gotreaux of Jennings.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Marie Kershaw, Rita Kershaw and Adam Kershaw, August Hebert and Estella Hebert, Joseph Miller and Elead Caswell.

CROWLEY - Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 4 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, for Edwin Joseph Schexnayder, 80, who died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital.

Wilbert “Pee Wee” Terro
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church for Wilbert “Pee Wee” Terro, 73, who died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Father Sonny Brown will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family request visiting hours to be observed from 8 a.m. Thursday until service time. A rosary was recited Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include one brother, Elwood J. Terro and wife Aline of Crowley; one sister, Flora Belle Comeaux of Crowley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Terro was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and was employed by Meaux Pontiac for 42 years before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney and Lovenia Simon Terro; one brother, Herbert Terro; one niece, Pat C. Istre; one great nephew, Shane Istre and one brother-in-law, Nelson Comeaux.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Getz, Christopher Sedtal, E. P. Istre, Shannon Comeaux, Paul Duhon and Daniel Thevis.

Patricia Marie Cramer
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church for Patricia Marie Cramer, 57, who died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at her residence.
Father Francis Bourgeois and Father Thomas Habetz will officiate for the services. Burial will be in St. Leo Cemetery in Roberts Cove. The family request visiting hours are observed Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her mother, Felicitas H. Cramer of Roberts Cove; two sisters, Anna Margaret C. Zaunbrecher and Carolyn Cramer both of Roberts Cove; three nieces, Trudy Z. Gary of Roberts Cove, Allison Cramer of New Orleans and Lyndsey Cramer of Lafayette; three nephews, Brian Zaunbrecher of Roberts Cove, Darryl Zaunbrecher of Roberts Cove and John Cramer of Lafayette; two great nieces, Brianne and Kennedy Gary both of Roberts Cove; one sister-in-law, Kathy G. Breaux of Lafayette.
Miss Cramer was preceded in death by her father, John H. Cramer; one brother, Nate Cramer and one brother-in-law, Billy Zaunbrecher.
Miss Cramer was a devoted teacher at St. Michael Elementary School for 36 years, a member of St. Leo Ladies Altar Society and Roberts Cove Germanfest.
Pallbearers will be Brian Zaunbrecher, Darryl Zaunbrecher, John Cramer, Bryan Gary, Leonard Habetz and Charles Habetz.
