Seth Randell Trahan
CROWLEY – Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Assembly of God for Sergeant Seth Randell Trahan, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 while serving our country in Iraq. Sergeant Trahan served with Charlie Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 256th Brigade Combat Team. Sergeant Trahan was on a dismounted patrol when he was struck by an improvised explosive device.
Rev. Loyd Singley will officiate for the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Friday from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at Northside Assembly of God beginning at 9 a.m. until time of service.
Seth was 20 years old from Crowley and a 2002 graduate of Northside Christian School.
He is survived by his fiancée, Kacie Gatte; his parents, Randy and Emma Trahan; his four sisters, Tara, Sarah and her husband Lance Olimb, Emily and her husband Rock Nelson and Anna Brooke; his paternal grandparents, Jake and Genevieve Trahan and godmother, Vickie Kibodeaux.
Seth was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnson and Dorothy Hanks.
Seth was an active member of Northside Assembly of God where he served in multiple capacities. Seth was a student of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he majored in criminal justice.
In an email to his family on Jan. 18, Seth wrote: “I am proud to serve my country and I am willing to make any sacrifice, whatever it may be. Every time I put on this uniform I take pride in it because I love the American flag on my right shoulder. I have lived free in America for 20 years and I am willing to give up one year so that someone else can have the chance to experience the freedom that we take for granted everyday.”
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Northside Assembly of God for the “Seth Trahan Memorial Fund.”

Richard Charles Reed
IOTA – Funeral services for Richard Charles Reed, 73, of Iota, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David Broussard officiating. Mr. Reed died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at his residence in Iota. Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Reed was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver who enjoyed gardening, raising rabbits and treasured time spent with his family and close friends.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Martha Frey “Totsy” Reed of Iota; two daughters, Annette Bertrand and her husband Ronnie and Donna Kaye Andrepont and her husband Lloyd, all of Iota; five sons, Keith Reed and his wife Carol, Brent Reed and his wife Naomi, Norman Reed and his wife Shelia and Ricky Reed and his wife Mary, all of Iota and John Reed and his wife Carla, of Scott; one brother, Mervin “Coonie” Reed of Eunice; two sisters, Ola Mae Bernard and Laura Denny, both of Lafayette; 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Bella Cart Reed; a grandson, Travis “P-Paul” Rabassa Reed; four brothers, Wallace, Curry, Ivy, and Lubert Reed and two sisters, Sing Steen and Grace Fruge.
Pallbearers were Donnie Paul, Cody, David, Chris, and Shawn Reed, Blake Lormand, Randy and Robbie Bertrand. Honorary pallbearers will be John Shane, Steven and Kyle Reed, Chris Andrepont and Mervin “Coonie” Reed.
Visitation was observed from 3 p.m. Friday until time of service Saturday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota.

Beatrice Webb Laughlin
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Beatrice Guidry Webb Laughlin, 79, who died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at her residence in Crowley.
Fr. Rusty Richard, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. The family requests visiting hours be observed Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Fred S. Laughlin of Crowley; one daughter, Gail W. Broussard and her husband Johnny of Fairfax, Va., three sons, Kenny Webb and his wife Darla of Egan, Joey Webb of Crowley, Jimmy Webb and his wife Kimberly of Houston; one daughter-in-law, Linda Webb of Broussard; one step-daughter, Linda L. Comeaux of Baton Rouge; one brother, Carroll Martin and his wife Kat of Lafayette; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bea worked in the Acadia Parish school system for 18 years and her volunteer work in the religious education program the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church gave her a chance to make a positive impact on the lives of many young children. Everyone had the same impression of her as a kind and gentle woman. She was a devout Catholic who lived her life in a humble and graceful way.
The light of Bea's life was her family. She enjoyed raising her children and cooking for her children and immediate family. Her favorite times were spent surrounded by family and friends, with a glass of good wine, a bowl of Hershey Kisses, laughter and great conversation.
Bea had the chance to travel the world and always felt compassion for those less fortunate. While at home, she could be found tending to her plants and flowers.
She made friends easily, whether from her community, her church, her work or even her neighborhood. She treated friends as if they were family, and they were always welcome in her house.
Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Laughlin was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Wilbur Webb; one son, Richard “Dicky” Webb; her parents, Walter Guidry and Mabel Stelly G. Solomon.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 901 East Elm Street, Crowley, LA 70526.

Angel Beaugh Thibodeaux
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart Church for Angel Beaugh Thibodeaux, 92, who died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at Kaplan Nursing Home.
Deacon Rodless Leleux will officiate for the services. The visitation was observed Thursday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will continue Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary was held Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at 7 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Genevieve and Elton Schexnider of Kaplan, Joyce Peloguin of Longview, Tx. and Gloria and Henry Clement of Crowley; one sister, Leota Bergeron of Church Point; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Esley Thibodeaux; one son, Ronald Thibodeaux; one Son-in-Law, Octave Peloquin; one grand daughter, Pamela Thibodeaux and her parents, Ida Latiolais and Lucien Beaugh.
She was a member of the Ladies Alter Society of Assumption Catholic Church in Mire, La. She attended St. Michael Catholic Church for several years.
Pallbearers will be Drewe Schexnider, Craig Schexnider, Reggie Thibodeaux, Scotty Peloquin, Larry Mayard, Ronnie Thibodeaux, David Clement and Jimmy Meaux

Jerry Matte
CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in the Chapel of Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley for Jerry Matte, 52, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, who died Saturday, February 26, 2005 in Longview, Tx.
Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include one sister, Brenda Primeaux and husband Donald of Kaplan; two brothers, Roger Matte and wife Carolyn of Rayne and Mike Matte and wife Debbie of Longview, Tx.; 9 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Alberta Matte and his grandparents, Irving and Edmay Duhon and Ophey and Eleanor Matte.
Mr. Matte was born Nov. 30, 1952 in Tyler Tx. He had been a welder in the shipyards most of his life and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Kenneth Charles Kibodeaux
EGAN- Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at St. Michael Chapel in Egan for Kenneth Charles Kibodeaux, 48, who died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, near Kaplan.
Father David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Sensat Cemetery.
Visitation was observed Saturday from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Sunday visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include three daughters, Crystal Kibodeaux of Lake Arthur, April K. Lavergne of Scott and Mazie Kibodeaux of Cow Island; one son, Adam Kibodeaux of Cow Island; his mother, Viola C. Kibodeaux of Egan; two sisters, Barbara K. Landry of Iowa, Judy K. Lacroix of Rayne; two brothers, James Kibodeaux of Crowley and Albert Kibodeaux of Egan; and one grandson, Braydon Lavergne of Scott.
Mr. Kibodeaux was preceded in death by his father, Adam Kibodeaux.

Anthony Lee Schneider
IOTA – Funeral services
were held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata for Anthony Lee Schneider, 81. “Noonie,” as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Acadia Parish who died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 in Iota after a lengthy and heroic battle with cancer.
Fr. David Broussard officiated for the services. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by one daughter, Sonya S. Ghaddar and her husband Gus of Conroe, Texas; two sons, David Schneider and his wife Arlene of Bellaire, Texas and Paul Schneider of Iota; three brothers, Lawrence “Bud” Schneider and his wife Gisela of Pompano Beach, Fla., F. J. Schneider, Jr. of Bayou Vista, and Ray Schneider and his wife Pat of Roberts Cove; one sister, Catherine “Kitty” Hensgens and her husband Raymond of Crowley and four grandchildren, Andrea, Rachel, Anthony and Trevor.
Mr. Schneider was preceded in death by his parents, F. J. and Delia Green Schneider; two sisters, Janette S. Pousson and Ellen S. Thevis; three brothers, Joseph Henry Schneider, James Schneider and J. Dillard “Dick” Schneider.
Mr. Schneider was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

Zachary Schexnayder
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Zachary “T-Boy” Schexnayder, 29, who died Feb. 23, 2005 at his residence in Crowley.
Fr. Sonny Brown will be officiating for the services. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Raven and Bailey Schexnayder, both of Crowley; three sons, Zachary Love, Coi and Sage Schexnayder, all of Crowley; his parents, Kernes and Dellcan Harrington Schexnayder of Crowley; one sister, Sabrina Schexnayder Conner and her husband Michael of Crowley; his fiancé, Theresa Kibodeaux of Crowley; his maternal grandmother, Violet Harrington of Crowley; and his paternal grandfather, Kernes Schexnayder, Sr. of Crowley.
Mr. Schexnayder was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ivy Harrington and his paternal grandmother, Helen Kibodeaux Schexnayder.
Visitation began Thursday at 1 p.m. and will continue until time of service on Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Glenn David Tarver
COLUMBIA – Educator Glenn David Tarver, died midday February 19, 2005, at the age of 70.
Tarver was born Columbia on August 30, 1934.
As a youth, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying sports and hunting.
Tarver received a Bachelor Degree in Science and minor in Math from NLU.
He received his Masters at Mississippi Baptist College. During the Korean War, Tarver served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal.
He began his career as a basketball coach in Enterprise. He next taught Math at Columbia High finishing as a Guidance Counselor at Caldwell Parish High School. After retirement, Glenn fulfilled his dream as a cattle farmer.
Tarver was married to Patricia Ann Tarver for 47 years. Glenn is also survived by his daughters Nancy Wild, married to Wayne Wild of Crowley; his daughter Wenda Carr, married to Robert Carr of Monroe; one special grandchild, Matisha Jenkins, of Baton Rouge; brother Jim Tarver, brother in- laws Charles Meredith and Johnny Meredith and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the Columbia Heights Baptist Church in Columbia, Louisiana. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce McGee.
Tarver, forever the educator, wanted people to learn from his many illnesses and as a truly caring person he dedicated his body to Science.

Danny Lee Breaux
DENHAM SPRINGS - Funeral services will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. for Danny Lee Breaux, 18 months, who died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Our lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Anne cemetery in Youngsville with Bro. Keith Zachary of New Covenant Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anne Cemetery in Youngsville.
Survivors include his parents, Jeremy Lee and Crystal Breaux of Denham Springs; two sisters, Kirsten A. Breaux and Ashley L. Breaux both of Denham Springs; four brothers, Christian Breaux of Denham Springs, Kristian Lee, Justin Lee and Keanu Breaux all of Miami, Florida; maternal grandmother Debbie Trahan Day of Denham Springs; maternal grandfather Ronald James Clement, Sr. of Rayne; paternal grandmother Yvonne D’Aquilla of Abbeville; maternal step-grandfather Gerry Lynn Day of Denham Springs; paternal step-grandfather Joseph Gerard D’Aquilla of Abbeville; maternal step-grandmother Rosa M. Day of Denham Springs; maternal great-grandmother Betty Castille of Rayne; maternal great-grandmother Mildred A. Poole of Lake Charles; maternal great-great grandmother Elizabeth St. Romain of Denham Springs and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Henry Hanks
CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Henry Hanks, 75, who died at 2:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Rev. Rodless Leleux will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Survivors include two daughters, Henrietta Hanks and Sharon Bergeaux both of Jennings; four grandchildren, Daniel Hanks, Nicole Bergeaux, Aaron Parsons and Alana Parsons; three great-grandchildren, Autumn Hanks, Arley Hanks and Zander Hanks.
He was preceded in death by his son, Danny D. Hanks and his parents, Theophile and Adelaide Hanks.
Mr. Frey was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict.

Jean Bourque
LAFAYETTE – Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for Jean “Harold” Bourque, 73, who died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at his Lafayette residence.
Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Paul G. Bienvenue, Pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services.
Survivors include his companion, Marion Naquin; three daughters, Angela Gautreaux and her husband David of Carencro, Dana Langlinais and her husband Craig of Youngsville and Dawn Aucoin and her husband Mitch of Lafayette; one son, Wayne Bourque of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Cecile Irene Marks and her husband Lewis of Lafayette and one brother, Patrick Bourque and his wife Betty of Ossun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ida Bouillion Bourque; one son, Kenneth Bourque; one daughter, Kim Bourque; two sisters, Eva Mae Prejean and Lauris Patin and one brother, Aby Bourque.
A native of Duson and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mr. Bourque was a veteran of military service having served in the United States Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by Abdalla’s for over 30 years. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
A rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Martin and Castille Funeral Home.
Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until time of services Thursday.

Hayward Martin Richard
RAYNE – Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at a Mass of Christian burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Hayward Martin Richard, 78, who died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2. The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rayne, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Organist will be Phyllis Simar and soloist will be Mr. Richard’s brother-in-law Ron Moreau.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years. Rosemary Moreau Richard of Rayne; two daughters, Olivia R. Rayburn and companion Jeffery Richard of Rayne, Darlene R. Primeaux and husband Kenneth, Sr. of Kaplan; one sister, Gladys R. Robichaux of Rayne; six grandchildren, Kelli Bourque Meche and husband Perry, Lukas Bourque and fiancee Sheila Terro, Erik Bourque, Kenneth Primeaux, Jr. and wife Nicki, Aimee Primeaux and fiancee Timothy Monaghan, Adam Primeaux; one great grandchild, Alexis Bourque; and three step-great grandchildren, Zack, Hannah and Jake Meche.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin J. Richard and Oliva Lagrange Richard; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Hazel Richard, Batson and Anne Mae Richard; one nephew, Irving Richard.
Mr. Richard retired with Union Texas Petroleum with 40 years, he served in U.S. Air Force, Merchant Marine during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 77 in Rayne as Past Commander, Veteran of Foreign Wars, 40 and 8 Club and St. Joseph Society.
Rosaries will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday.
Visiting hours will be observed from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Primeaux, Jr., Adam Primeaux, Lukas Bourque, Erik Bourque, Jeffery Moreau and Hubert Robichaux.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc.

Walter “W.M.” Clement
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for Walter Clement who died Monday Feb. 21, 2005 at Northshore Hospital in Slidell.
A resident of Crowley, Mr. Clement was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Air Force during WWII. He was employed in the oilfield many years.
Survivors includes his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth “Liz” Clement; two children, Leo Clement of Red Oak, Texas and his wife Sarah Clement and Katherine Clement; a special godchild in his life, Dr. Ann Horton Lopez; six grandchildren, Joshua Lambert, Anne Lambert, Emma Lambert, Olivia Clement, Zoe Clement and Caroline Clement. He is also survived by his brothers, J.F. Joseph Clement of Iota and Elvie Hopkins of Burna, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Odea Meyer Clement and two brothers, Columbus and James Clement.
Visitation will be at Duhon Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 25 from noon until the time of services.
A rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Estherwood Cemetery. Fr. Gary Schexnayder will conduct the service.

Edna Cormier Mire
CROWLEY – Funeral services for Edna Cormier “Maw Maw” Mire, 101, were at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 from Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Burial was in the Abshire Cemetery in Crowley, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mire died Saturday, Feb. 19 in the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Visitation hours was at the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday, February 21 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A rosary was recited on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Mire was born on July 2, 1903 in Lyons Point to Pierre Onezime and Julia Sonnier Cormier. She was married to Joseph Emedis in 1917 who died in 1973. She moved to Sulphur in 1943. Mrs. Mire was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and of the Ladies Altar Society. She was a devoted Catholic, she loved to pray the Rosary daily and she prayed for the safety of the travelers on the road, the sick and even God’s animals. She was an angel to everyone’s lives that she touched. Mrs. Mire deeply loved her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Annis Schexnider of Lake Charles and Mary Lou LeDoux of Lake Charles; two brothers, Antoine Cormier of Crowley and Leroy Cormier of Kaplan; two sisters, Louise Villejoin of Crowley and Agnes Lege of Sulphur; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by a daughter Miamie Thibodeaux, 18 of her siblings, two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Robert Lee Bertrand, 59, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada Thibodeaux and Oneis Bertrand; his step-father, Ellias Richard; one sister Hazel LeBlanc and four brothers, Minus Bertrand, Hubert Bertrand, Weston Bertrand and Joseph Bertrand. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the VFW Post 6720 of Crowley.

Mrs. Broussard is survived by her son, Dr. L.O. Broussard and his wife Scotty Maraist Broussard of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Cathy Bienvenu, Larry Broussard, Betsy Seanard, Susan Hannon and Anne Belyea; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Aline Guidry Comeaux and her husband, L.O. Broussard, Sr.

JENNINGS – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Estherwood for Eva Dean LeJeune, 61, who died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at the American Legion Hospital of Crowley.
Interment will be in the Estherwood Cemetery. Rev. Rusty Richard and Rev. Thomas Habetz will conduct the services.
A native and resident of Estherwood, Mrs. LeJeune was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. A member of the Ladies Altar Society at St. Margaret in Estherwood. She was the previous owner of LeJeune Grocery of Estherwood.
Survivors include her husband, Elbee LeJeune of Estherwood; two daughters, Patrice Lejeune Dale of Breaux Bridge and Linda Marie LeJeune Edmonson and her husband Glenn of Elizabeth, Pa.; a special godchild in her life, Saje-Anna Marie Fontenot of Estherwood; one grandchild, Steven “Bubba” Dale of Breaux Bridge and three step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Amy Fontenot Blanchard; one brother, Norman Blanchard, Jr. and one sister, Genevieve Guillory.

Shirley Peyrefitte Lund
METAIRIE – A memorial Mass celebrating the life of Shirley Peyrefitte Lund will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Ursuline Academy, 2701 State St., New Orleans. Mrs. Lund died in Crowley, December 17, 2004. Father Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., President of Loyola University will officiate at the service and be joined by Deacon Everett J. Williams.
Mrs. Lund was born in New Orleans and attended St. Mary of the Pines Boarding School for girls in Chatawa, Miss. for high school. She graduated from Ursuline College with a B.Ph. in 1935. She was a resident of Crowley for 68 years. Mrs. Lund was a parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church where she was a lay minister, a member of the choir, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the Ladies Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Serra Club. She was a member of the American Legion Hospital Pink Ladies and was well known as a community activist, frequently hosting philanthropic and civic related functions at her home.
Mrs. Lund's extensive collection of ladies hats, some of which were handed down to her from her mother, was featured at the Crowley Public Library several years ago. Her home was formerly owned by the Lund's friend and famous humorist/chef Justin Wilson and she was a close personal friend of Mary Alice Fontenot, author of the Clovis Crawfish Series of children's books.
Mrs. Lund is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Cathy Lund Vaughn and her husband Bob of New Orleans, Karen Lund Beard and her husband Leonard of Crowley; three grandchildren, Courtney Beard Nickel and her husband Stephen, Steward Lund Beard and Bradley Cole Beard of Crowley; three step-grandchildren, Erin Vaughn DeLoach, Robert L. Vaughn and Zachary W. Vaughn; three great grandchildren, Riley, Catherine and Oliver Nickel, and two step-great grandchildren, Grayson and Avery Vaughn. She is also survived by one sister, Marilyn Peyrefitte Coleman of Honduras and several nieces and nephews who fondly remember "Aunt Shirley's Sunday dinners" when they would visit in Crowley.
Mrs. Lund was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. "Billy" Lund Jr., an infant son, Edward Lund; her parents, Gonzalo August Peyrefitte and Catherine Anna Braun Peyrefitte and one brother, Ashton Gonzalo Peyrefitte and sister-in-law, Lillie "Pickles" Lund Swain.
A scholarship fund has been established in honor of Shirley Peyrefitte Lund at Ursuline Academy. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the scholarship fund in Mrs. Lund's name at Ursuline Academy, the American Heart Association, St. Michael Elementary School or Notre Dame High School in Crowley, Hospice of Louisiana, or the charity of your choice.

Frank Vincent Anzalone, Jr.
MONROE – Services for Frank Vincent Anzalone, Jr., 86, of Monroe, will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating.  Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Anzalone was born on Oct. 23, 1918, in Natchez, Miss. and died Feb. 15, 2005, in Monroe.  He and his brother, Vincent, founded Star Hardware and Furniture Company in 1941 and Mr. Frank retired in 1995. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus and was Past Grand Knight of Council #1337.  He graduated from Northeast Louisiana Junior College and trained at Fort Benning, Ga. as a paratrooper serving in the U. S. Army during WWII  attaining the rank of Captain.  He served in the Louisiana National Guard and retired as Lt. Colonel in 1978 as second in command.  He was a member of various civic organizations, Reserve Officers Association, and American Legion where he was a former Vice Commander. He was Past Commander of MOWW, First President of the JGS Parents Club, Former Scout Master of Troop 1 Boy Scouts of America, and AMVETS Past Commander.
He was preceded by his parents, Frank, Sr. and Marguerite Zuccaro Anzalone; brothers and sisters, Anthony Anzalone, Lillian Anzalone, Emma Jungina, Josephine Anzalone, and Marie Comrato and grandson, Benjamin Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elaine Stuckey Anzalone of Monroe; children, Kay Cargel of Monroe, Frank Anzalone III and wife Patsy of Monroe, Diane Jones and husband Rex Jones of Seminole, FL, Peggy Clark of Monroe, Dr. Charles Anzalone and wife Connie of Crowley, Ronald Anzalone and wife Gina of Brambleton, Va., and Dr. Gary Anzalone and wife, Cindy of El Dorado, Ark.; brother, Vincent Anzalone and his wife, Flo of Monroe; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Josie Nugent Robison
CROWLEY – Josie Nugent Robison, 77, of Dover, formerly of Crowley died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. The daughter of Joseph and Bernadine Leger Nugent, she was born October 28,1927 in Rayne. She married John David Robison on Nov. 12,1946 in Crowley. Josie was a wonderful cook and enjoyed working in her flower beds. She loved reading, solving crossword puzzles, collecting giraffes and watching and feeding hummingbirds. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Russellville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Melba Collins, Donella Pizolata, and Liz McFarland and one brother, Daniel Nugent.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, John D. Kathy was a lifelong resident of Crowley. She was born September 23, 1958 and graduated from Notre Dame High School of Crowley.

Dommert and Elva Denton Dommert; brothers and sister-in-law Arthur R. Oney J. Manuel
IOTA – Funeral services for Oney J. Manuel, 79, of Iota, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota with Fr. David Broussard and Fr. George Heffner officiating. Mr. Manuel died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at his residence in Iota. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph mausoleum, with military honors being provided by members of the American Legion Post 371 of Iota.
Mr. Manuel retired from Conoco Refining in Egan after 33 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a Higgins Boat pilot.
Mr. Manuel is survived by his wife, Florence Trahan Manuel of Iota; three daughters, Carolyn Simar and her husband, David of Iota, Charlotte Frey and her husband, Ralph of Mowata and Kayla LaFosse of Iota; a son, Brady Manuel of Iota; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tony (Anne) Manuel of Iota; 12 grandchildren, Lynette Nickel, Shara, Belaire, Bryan Simar, Monica Cormier, Alicia Hebert, Aaron Frey, Melanie Broussard, Jason Manuel, Brandon, Jessica, Emily and Zachary LaFosse and fourteen great grandchildren.

LAFAYETTE – Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Edward Louis Stelly, age, 84, who died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at 1:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Oaks Retirement Community.
Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Jody Simoneaux, Pastor, St. Genevieve Catholic Church, was the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the services. Lectors were Jennifer Gary Hebert and Kaye Gary Anthony. Natolie Gary, Linda LeBlanc and Rose Benoit were giftbearers. Lisa Roy, organist, sang for the services including, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “The Prayer of St. Francis” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Survivors include his wife, Olivia “Lil Bit” Granger Stelly, of Lafayette; one daughter, Emily Gary and her husband, John, of Jeanerette; four grandchildren, Christopher Gary and his wife, Natolie, Kevin Gary, Jennifer Hebert and her husband, John and Kaye Anthony and her husband, Army Spec. Khristopher; and five great grandchildren, Madison Muffoletto, Drew Gary, Shea Gary, Collin Gary and Evan Hebert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andre and Marceiliene Bertrand Stelly; two sisters, Mary Lou Gormely and Racie Evans; and one brother, Tourne John Stelly.
A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mr. Stelly was a veteran of military service having served in the United States Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Acadian Toyota as parts manager. Mr. Stelly was a member of the St. Genevieve Catholic Community where he served as past president of the Ushers Society. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #1286 and was also former marshal of the LA District #2 of the Knight of Columbus. Mr. Stelly was past navigator with the Bishop DuBourg Assembly and past president of the Hub City Kiwanis of Lafayette and was awarded the Bishops Honor Medal for service.

LAFAYETTE – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in La Chapelle de Martin and Castille for Troy Matthew Babineaux, 44, who died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment will be in the Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The Rev. Thomas P. Voorhies, Pastor, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Eunice, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services.
Survivors include his beloved fiancee, Denise Morvant and her children, Cynthia, Angelica, Brook and Dustin, all of Lafayette; his parents, Bernard “Ben” Babineaux and Alice Stelly Babineaux of Lafayette; two sisters, Rochelle Babineaux of Lafayette and Bridget Babineaux Foret and her husband, Tom of Houston and one brother, Kevin Babineaux of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Liza Jo Stelly and Curley John Stelly; and his paternal grandparents, Cecile Bernard Babineaux and Desire “Dez” Babineaux.
A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Troy loved riding motorcycles and horses, cooking, art, hunting and visiting with friends. He was a loving son, fiancé, brother and friend to all who knew him.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14 at First United Methodist Church in Crowley for Myrtle Clara Hoffpauir, 91, who died Feb. I I, 2005 at Southwind Nursing Home.
Rev. Bob Hollis will be officiating for the services. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy LeJeune and her husband Vaughn of Crowley; one son Charles Kenneth Hoffpauir and his wife Jackie of Houston; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one brother, Marvin Hoffpauir, Jr. of Crowley.
Mrs. Hoffpauir is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Hoffpauir; her parents, Marvin and Cora Hoffpauir, Sr.; three sisters, Berty Sanders, Grace Hoffpauir and Ruby Kmiecik and two brothers, Curtis and Vurtis Hoffpauir.

Frances Gayle Andrus Fontenot
GUEYDAN - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the First United Methodist Church in Gueydan, for Frances Gayle Andrus Fontenot, 80, whose life ended unexpectedly at the Heart Hospital of Acadiana, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at 12:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Branch. Rev. James Schaub of Columbus, Ohio and Rev. Kemper Smith, pastor of the Gueydan First United Methodist Church, will conduct the services.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, T.J. Fontenot of Gueydan, three daughters, Cassandra “Cassie” Rives of Gueydan, Jacqueline “Jackie” Robins and her husband Dr. Ronald Robins of Houston and Mary Gayle LeJeune and her husband Conrad LeJeune of New Iberia; two grandsons Jordan Andrus LeJeune of New Orleans and Theodore James “Ted” LeJeune of New Iberia; one step-grandson, Kevin Robins and his family of Houston; her special son William “Bill” McCain of Houston; one brother Edgar Roy “Ted” Andrus, Jr. and his wife Lena of Mandeville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, Sibyl Parrott Andrus and Edgar Roy Andrus of Rayne; her maternal grandparents Dr. Joseph Bowers Parrott and Olive Miller Parrott and her paternal grandparents Joseph Calvin Andrus and Francoise Theosa de Villiers, all of Branch and nephews, Edgar Roy Andrus III and Theodore Armstrong Andrus of Mandeville.
Gayle was born Friday, August 13, 1924 in Branch at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Parrott. Her grandfather delivered her. Because she was the first grandchild and the first girl born into the family since her mother, Sibyl was born, she enjoyed a special position in that household throughout the summers of her childhood.
She grew up in Rayne and graduated from Rayne High School in 1940. She attended SLI in Lafayette where she was a member of Tri Sigma sorority and chosen Campus Beauty in 1941. While at SLI she met T.J. They were married, July 12, 1945 at the Asbury Methodist Church in Los Angeles, shortly before he was sent overseas. While T.J. was gone she lived in Rayne with her parents and taught school in Indian Bayou.
In 1947 Gayle and T.J. moved to Gueydan where they have lived for the last 58 years.
That same year T.J. opened his fuel distribution business which he named Gayle Oil Company in honor of his bride. Together they have enjoyed a blessed life with devotion to their children, grandchildren, church, community and each other. T.J. runs the business on First Street and Gayle was the boss of their “domestic location” at the corner of Fourth and Wilkerson.
When their girls were growing up she was an active member of the PTA and Band Mothers’ Club. She spent many Friday nights selling popcorn and hot chocolate at the football games. In the past several years she has been a loyal fan of the ESA basketball team in Cade. She also enjoyed watching her grandsons play.
Gayle was an active member of the Gueydan First United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Acadia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Gueydan Museum and Cultural Arts Society, GALA and the Krewe de la Chambre Royale. She was Queen Amalie II of the 2002 Mardi Gras Ball. For the past several decades she has enjoyed playing bridge with her New Iberia bridge club on the last Friday of every month. They have played together since their days in the dormitory at SLI.
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31. This Golden Rule is Jesus’ summation of the Ten Commandments and was Gayle’s rule for life. It was etched in her heart and she practiced it everyday. Those who were fortunate enough to share her life will miss her fun-loving, witty and generous personality. She was truly a friend to all.
Visiting hours will be observed from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday, Feb. 12 at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Ronald Robins, Conrad LeJeune, Jordan LeJeune, Ted LeJeune, Bill McCain, and Steve May.

Mildred Semar Reed
JENNINGS – Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Evangeline for Mildred Semar Reed, 47, who died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at the Tulane Medical Center of New Orleans.
Rev. Ken Domingue will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Tee-Mamou Cemetery. Visiting hours began on Thursday at 1 p.m. and will last until time of service.
She was a native of Jennings and a resident of Maringouin. She loved spending time with her family and playing with her grandbabies.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Joseph Reed of Maringouin; one son, Brandon Gregory Hebert and wife Tricia of Tepetate; two daughters, Sherry Renee Ashford and husband Michael of Lake Charles and Amanda Faye Darbonne and husband Blake of Tepetate; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarphy and Audrey Reed of Evangeline; her mother, Mary Jane Leger Semar of Hayes; three brothers Kenneth Charles Semar of Holmwood, Walter Joseph Semar of Hayes and Johnny Semar of Iowa; two sisters, Pamela Kaye Gauthreaux of Sweetlake and Janet Semar of Bell City; and four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Grayson Ashford, Madison Darbonne and Layton Hebert.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 11 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church for Rose Ella Lawrence Jones, 85, who died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in Crowley.
Father Richard Sadlier will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the South Crowley Cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed at the church, Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Rose Ella Lawrence Jones was born on August 10, 1919 in Grand Coteau, Louisiana to William and Ella Lawrence. She attended Sacred Heart Convent in Grand Coteau for the first four years of school. From the fifth grade through graduation she attended Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana. She received her two year teaching certificate from Grambling State University and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Jones was a retired educator of the Acadia Parish School system and was a teacher for thirty-five years. She was a member of the Acadia Retired Teachers Association, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and the National Council of Senior Citizens, Incorporated. Among her religious affiliations, she served as member of the St Theresa Catholic Church Parish Council, taught C.C.D. classes for over ten years, member of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Peter Claver and served on the advisory board for the Vicar of Black Catholics. She was a member of the American Legion Post 506 and has served as president of that unit. She was the recipient of the Diocese of Lafayette Bishop's Medal awarded for devoted service in the parish of St. Theresa. She received the 1985 Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award for outstanding contributions to church and community from the Vicar of Black Catholics. She was the 1986 Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Kappa Gamma Chapter Black Woman of the year.
Jones leaves to mourn her passing her children, William and wife Carolyn Jones Sr. of Houston and Presley and husband Danie Andrus of Crowley; her sister, Wilhelmina and husband Ashby Cormier of Lafayette; her grandchildren D’Nais and husband Adrian Mack of Ball, Delanie and husband Steven Williams of Philadelphia, Nicolette Jones of Lafayette, Quincy Byers and William Jones Jr. of Houston; her six great grandchildren Kyler, Jabril and Steven Jr. of Philadelphia, Kailinn and Matthew of Lafayette and Lidarian of Houston; her nephew Joseph and wife Juanita Cormier of Houston and two nieces, Gwendolyn and husband Elmo Miller of Grand Coteau and Barbara and husband Joseph Connor of Seattle; her godchildren include Joseph Cormier, Sandra Broussard, Juan Morgan and Quevette Floyd of Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Ella Lawrence; her husband, Preston Jones; her siblings, Henry Lawrence and Sister Mary Celine Lawrence S.S.J. and her son Henry C. Jones.

Joseph Horace Andrepont
IOTA – Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 for Joseph Horace “Shorty” Andrepont, 83, of Iota. Fr. David Broussard,pastor of St. Joseph's will officiate. Interment will follow in Reed Cemetery.
Mr. Andrepont died at his residence in Iota Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. He later opened the Shell Service station in Iota and operated it for many years until his retirement in the 1980's.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Andrepont of Iota; his granddaughter, Kayla A. Soileau and her husband James, both of Iota and four great grandchildren, Kristy McDaniel, Jamie, Jennifer and Johnny Soileau.
Visitation will be observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of services. A rosary was recited at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Leo Alfred Giggar
MEMPHIS – Leo Alfred Giggar, 78, born and raised in Welsh, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at Bright Glade Convalescent Home in Memphis. Leo, a World War II Army veteran and the eldest son of the late Leo V. and Ada Giggar of Welsh, had suffered a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Landry Giggar, now living in Memphis; two brothers and a sister, Vernon and Mike Giggar and Wanda Jolie of Welsh; three children, Jan Giggar of Little Rock, Ark.; Monya Johnson and husband Robert of Memphis and Jennifer Primeaux of Estherwood; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Leo worked in Lafayette as Instrument and Measurement Tech with United Gas Pipeline, eventually retiring in the Oakdale office. Services will be:
Visitation and viewing will be Friday at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh at 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the wake service held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
A funeral Mass on Saturday, will be at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh, followed by a 1 p.m. graveside service officiated by Father Habetz at Estherwood Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Memorials may be made to Hospice.

 

Arthurine Hargrave Menou
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Arthurine Hargrave Menou, 65, who died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at 10:19 at her residence.
Fr. Rusty Richard, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Visitation hours will be observed Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Menou is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jules Menou III of Crowley; one son, Jules Menou IV and his wife Suzanne of Moss Bluff; one granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Menou; one grandson, Philip Jules Menou; her mother, Enez Broussard Hargrave of Morse; one sister, Shirley Breaux of Morse; five brothers, Calton Hargrave of Centennial, Colo., Melvin Hargrave of Bossier City, Lonnie Hargrave and Allen Hargrave both of Morse and David Hargrave of Orange, Texas.
Mrs. Menou was dedicated to a ministry of creating vestments for priests, altar cloths and bibs for baby christenings.
Pallbearers will be Cal Hargrave, Melvin Hargrave, Stanford Simon, David Menou, Philip Menou and Jesse Joubert.

Hilda Leger Comeaux
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Estherwood for Hilda Leger Comeaux, 98, who died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at Lake Charles Health Care Center.
Msgr. Paul Metrejean will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Estherwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include one daughter, Wilma C. Kurzawa of Arlington, Texas; one son, Arthur Comeaux of New Orleans; one brother, Newton Leger of Egan; one sister Mamie Lejeune of Iota; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Betty Billon
RAYNE – Funeral services will be held Thursday February 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Betty “Banny” Billon, 73, who died Monday February 7, 2005 at Lafayette General Hospital.
Survivors include her husband Herni Billon of Rayne; two daughters Melinda Billon of Houston and Elizabeth Canterbury of Lafayette; one sister Barbara Moceri of Jeanerette; four grandchildren Emily Paull of Houston, Bonnie Colville of Miami, Matthew, and Conner Canterbury both of Lafayette; one great grandchild Alexis Paull of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruth Craig Smith.
Banny was a popular member of the Rayne High School Class of 1950 as well as a student leader active in many campus activities while at S.L.I. (now U.L..L.) in Lafayette. Her out-going personality and friendly nature complimented her natural beauty and made her a very special person to everyone who knew her throughout her lifetime.
Visitation will be Wednesday Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until services.
Burial will be in the Rayne Cemetery Inc. under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home.

Rene Chaffers
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Rene Chaffers, 52, who died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 University Medical Center in Lafayette.

He was a twin and the seventh child of Odelia Clement Chaffers and the late Alvin Chaffers. He attended St. Theresa Elementary School and he graduated from H.C. Ross High School. He served faithfully as a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and as an altar server at a young age. He worked for many years as a skilled cement finisher, painter and laborer. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, a good laugh, chatting with and assisting the elderly and lending a helping hand to anyone who passed his way.

Lou Anna Gaspard Monceaux
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Crowley for Lou Anna Gaspard Monceaux, 68, who died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in Lafayette.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will conduct the funeral services and the burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Monday.
Visitation began Monday at 9 a.m. and will last until the time of services on Tuesday.
Mrs. Lou Anna is survived by her husband, John Monceaux of Estherwood, four sons, Paul James Shamsie and his wife Selina of Benton, Randy Charles Shamsie and his wife Lisa of Midland, Mohamed David Shamsie and his wife Joycelin of Benton and Mike Lynn Shamsie and his wife Rochelle of Benton; two daughters, Jamella Shamsie Seaux and her husband Michael of Estherwood and Sadie Shamsie and her husband Daniel Vollmer of Lafayette; three step-children, Sean Monceaux and his wife Laurie of Egan, Siobhan Meaux and her husband Keefe of Lyons Point and Goldie Marie Glenn and her husband Mike of Egan; one sister, Maudrey Guthrie of Estherwood and 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Alice Landry Kratzer
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Saint Michaels Catholic Church for Alice Landry Kratzer, 92, who died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of Saint Michael’s, will celebrate the Mass of Christian burial and preside over the graveside services at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
The Rosary was prayed at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening by Sister Justine Baker.
She is survived by one son, Joe F. Kratzer and his wife Cynthia of Crowley; one daughter-in-law, Oneida J. Kratzer of Eunice; seven grandchildren, Denise Istre, Michael S. Istre, Christopher Jude Kratzer, Alicia Kratzer Thibodeaux, Angela Kratzer Laborde, Anne Kratzer Dardeau and Jessica Kratzer and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Kratzer; her parents, Gabriel and Ava Broussard Landry; one son, Eddie P. Kratzer; one daughter, Shirley K. Istre and one granddaughter, Nancy E. Kratzer.

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Iris Prevost Duhon, 93, who died Feb. 7, 2005 at her daughter home in Indian Bayou.
Fr. Rusty Richard will be officiating for the service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
She is survived by two daughters, Audrey D. Smith Hoffpauir of Crowley and Barbara D. Hoffpauir of Indian Bayou; one son, Kenneth J. Duhon of Lafayette; three brothers, Clarence J. Prevost of Rayne, Ulysses J. “Ducky” Prevost of Rayne and Harold J. Prevost of Rayne; three sisters, Rose P. Fisher of Opelousas, Tina P. Comeaux of New Orleans and Mary Ann P. Breaux of Rayne, 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Stella P. Duhon of Crowley.
Mrs. Duhon was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Duhon; her parents, Joachin and Gertrude Dupont Prevost; one son, Raymond J. Duhon; three sisters, Eunice P. Thomas, Clamae P. Crowell and Annette Prevost and one brother, Camille Prevost.
Visitation may be observed Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

CHURCH POINT – Marie Rose Thibodeaux Lejeune, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home.

GUEYDAN – Placide Weekly, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Gueydan Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home.

Cecile Lagrange Bertrand-Trahan
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Cecile Lagrange Bertrand-Trahan, 97, who died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 in Groves, Texas.
Fr. Rusty Richard, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, celebrated the Mass of Christian burial and presided over the graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery. A rosary was prayed at 6 p.m. Friday evening by Sister Justine Baker.
Cecile was born and raised in Crowley but for the past six years has been a resident of Cypress Glenn nursing home in Port Arthur, Texas and the previous three years she resided in Landmark Retirement Home in Crowley. Cecile was a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she and her family were instrumental in bringing the Redemptorist Order to begin a church parish in Crowley. She had a strong belief in her faith and prayed the Rosary daily. She was a charter member of the Rosary Altar Society and a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at the Crowley American Legion Hospital. She and her family opened and operated the family business known as Lagrange Coffee Co. and ran it for over 30 years, 1926 -1956.
She is survived by two daughters, Genie B. Allemand-Deranger and her husband Al of Orange, Texas and Nada B. Hebert of Groves, Texas; two sisters, Mary Winam of Port Arthur and Willa Mae Sonnier of Nederland, Texas; three grandchildren, John Allemand Sr., Judy R. Jones and Rose R. Court, five great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Trahan was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Elise Hanks Lagrange; her two husbands Lucian Bertrand and Hubert Trahan and three brothers, Mayard, Mayo and Maurice Lagrange.
Visitation was observed on Friday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc. was entrusted with the arrangements.

Terry Michael Monceaux
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Terry Michael Monceaux, 54, who died in Sulphur Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.
Rev. Bob Hollis officiated for the services. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Monceaux was a resident of Crowley. He graduated from Rayne High School and attended McNeese State University. He joined the United States Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1973. After separation from the service he then worked as a landman in Southwest Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Norma White Monceaux of Crowley; two daughters, Shelly Havlik of Arizona and Sara Agullard of Ventrus; three grandchildren; his mother, Marguerite Boudreaux Monceaux of Rayne; three sisters, Angela St. Dizier of Lafayette, Cathy Monceaux of Florida and Cyndi Abshire of Rayne and one brother, Dr. Joseph Daryl Monceaux of Hawaii.
Mr. Monceaux was preceded in death by his father, J. D. Monceaux.
Visitation was observed Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley.

Verta Belle Roy
CROWLEY – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at St. Margaret Catholic Church for Berta Belle Roy, 85, who died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Fr. Thomas Habetz officiated for the services. Burial was in Estherwood Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Friday from 2 p.m. until service time. A rosary was recited Friday at 8 p.m. at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Hebert and Dorothy Dronet of Estherwood; four sons, Lee Jay Roy of Alexandria, Joseph Roy of Estherwood, Jimmy Roy of Crowley and Louis Roy of Estherwood; one sister, Sylvia Guidry of Jennings; one brother, Rudolph LeJeune of Estherwood; 27 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lagge Roy; one son, William Roy; her parents, Joseph and Julia Istre and one grandson, Richard Roy
Arrangements was entrusted to Duhon Funeral Home.

Robert David Vasseur
JENNINGS – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Robert David Vasseur, 56, who died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at the V. A. Hospital in Alexandria.
Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota. Rev. David Broussard conducted the services.
A native of Ville Platte and a resident of Tee-Mamou, Mr. Vasseur was a cross country truck driver of 26 years. He served in the Navy and received the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, W/2 Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the church council. He also loved fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Doucet Vasseur of Tee-Mamou; four daughters, Rachel Hargrave and her husband Douglas of Iota; Robin Lemoine and her husband Dale of Tee-Mamou, Amanda Fruge and Alyson Lessard and her husband Lance, both of Lafayette; his mother, Lois Mae Martin Vasseur Miller of Tee-Mamou; one brother, Ray Vasseur of Tee-Mamou; three sisters, Shirley Dunn of Houston, Melba Smith of Tee-Mamou and Linda Marx of Iota; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Trent and Trey Hargrave; Zachary, Katlyn and Logan Lemoine, Connor Fruge and Payton Lessard.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Vasseur and one brother Gilman Vasseur.
A rosary was prayed at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Pallbearers were Matthew Walker, Joel Blansett, Jonathan Doucet, Jason Doucet, Steven Marx and Quinton Marx.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings.
