JULY 2004 OBITUARIES

GUEYDAN – Vernice P. Lavergne, Sr., 77, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Gueydan Memorial Guest Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Gueydan Cemetery under the direction of Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan.

George R. Johnson
WELSH - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh for George R. Johnson, 81, who died Saturday, July 24, 2004 in a Lake Charles hospital.
Monsignor James Gaddy officiated the services. Burial was held in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held on Monday, July 26 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and then on Tuesday until time of service. Rosary was Monday, July 26 at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Survivors include his three sons, Tommy Johnson of New Port Ritchey, Florida, Randy Johnson of Pinole, Calif. and Scott Johnson of Braithwaite; two daughters, Diana Cleary of Kissimmee, Florida and Connie Andress of Lafayette; one sister, Gurney Randall of Glenmora and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Berlinger Johnson.
He was a native of Glenmora and a longtime resident of Welsh. He retired from Cities Service (Citgo Refinery). He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the VFW in Welsh. He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors where he served as an usher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Peggy Joyce Breaux
ANAHUAC, TEXAS - Peggy Joyce Breaux, 65, passed away at her home on Sunday. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady Light Catholic Church in Anahuac. Rev. Kevin Badeaux will officiate. Interment will follow at Anahuac Cemetery under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.
Peggy was born on January 28, 1939 in Crowley to her parents Adam Smith and Louise Hoffpauir. She was a high school graduate and attended two years of college. She married Hubert Breaux, Sr. on January 27, 1962 in Crowley. She had been a longtime resident of Anahuac where she worked as a personnel manager for Montgomery Ward. She had worked at the store at San Jacinto Mall in it’s opening until it closed. She was a member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac. In her spare time, Peggy loved to sew and could sew anything. She also enjoyed flowers and helping anyone she could. Her passion was her family and she loved to spend time with them.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jerry W. Smith and her sisters, Renda Myers and Patricia Smith. She is survived by her loving husband, Hubert Breaux, Sr. of Anahuac; her son, Hubert Breaux, Jr. and wife Alice of Anahuac; her daughters, Patty Stephens and husband Brad of Mt. Belvieu and Penny Knichel and husband Josh of Pasadena; her sister-in-law Robin Smith Alicie of Winne and her grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Ashley, Dylan, Logan, Christopher, Jonathan, Britni, C.J. and Philip. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

BRANCH – Mr. William Charles Crappell, 81, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 26 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Burial was in the Acadia Resthaven Mausoleum under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

Clara T. Abshire
Funeral services were held for Clara T. Abshire, 78, at St. Peter Catholic Church Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. Mrs. Abshire died July 24, at 9:55 a.m. at Crowley American Legion Hospital. Burial was in Broussard Cemetery. Father Mitchell Guidry officiated at the service.
Born in Cow Island August 13, 1925, she was a resident of Gueydan at the time of her death.
She was an accomplished seamstress and a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Charles David Abshire and his wife, Nancy, of Dallas, Texas, Lawrence Abshire and his wife, Janelle, of Midland, La., and and Audie Luke Abshire of Lake Arthur; a daughter, Lena Boudreaux of Hayes (reared by Clara and Mayo Abshire); a brother, Retired Lt. Col. James C. Touchet of Arlington, Texas a sister, Rachael Abshire of Wright; 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Rita Stouts Touchet, her husband, Mayo Abshire, a son, Earl A. Abshire and a stepbrother, Clarence Touchet.
Matthews & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lee Charles Hill
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lee Charles Hill, 74, who passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes after a brief illness.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. Rev. Weldon Bares will officiate.
Mr. Hill was born in Crowley in 1930, lived in New Orleans for six years and had been a resident of Lafayette for the past 42 years. He is a 1957 graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was employed by Pennzoil for 43 years, working his way up the company ladder from a meter reader at United Gas (later merged with Pennzoil) in Crowley to District Production Superintendent with Pennzoil Lafayette Offshore District upon his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Hill has also been closely involved in community activities for years. He worked with the local YMCA since 1993 and was a board member from 1997-2002, serving as Chairman for one year. He was an active member of the University of Louisiana Alumni Association and a longtime supporter of the university’s athletic programs.
Mr. Hill was an avid Boy Scout supporter working with the BSA Evangeline Area Council District Advancement Committee, and as a Troop Committee member of BSA Troop 19 since 1969, with two sons and one grandson awarded the rank of Eagle Scout with the same troop.
He had a loving family, a large circle of close friends, and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his lovely wife of 48 years, Roxie Duncan Hill; three sons, Charles Keith Hill and his wife Joni; Gregory Paul Hill and his wife Janice, all of Lafayette and Ronald Dean Hill of Houston. Also dear to his heart were his seven grandchildren, Brandon, Leslie, Amanda, Trenton, Eliza, Thomas, and Nathaniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Oscar Hill and the former Eliza Faulk of Crowley.
Visiting hours were observed on Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503-3240.
Pallbearers will be Mark Cruse, Jim David, Fritz Ory, Bob Bright, Jerry Hackler, and Brandon Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Young, James Kates, Ben Byland, Fred Bandy, and Charlie Shaw.

Eugene W. Bihm
RAYNE - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Eugene W. Bihm, 63, who died Sunday at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Survivors include his wife Frances Robinson Bihm of Rayne; one son and his wife Matthew and Jeanette Bihm of Rayne; two daughters and their husbands Valarie and Dwayne Roy of Shreveport and Tracie and Jamie Broussard, of Lake Charles; two grandchildren Drew and Taylor Roy of Shreveport; two brothers Frederick and his wife Claudette Bihm of Rayne, and Troy Bihm of Phoenix, Az.; two sisters Madeline McCaleb of Baton Rouge and Beth and her husband David Waxman of Jasper, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Louisa Schumacher Bihm and one brother Rankin Bihm.
He was Deputy Grand Knight of the K. C. Council Sts. Peter & Paul #7568, and a Eucharist minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a past member of the Rayne Civil Defense with a rank of Lieutenant, the Rayne Jaycees, Grand Knight of Council 1897 (2 terms), Boy Scout and Cub Scout Leader, and also a T-Ball coach.
Before retirement Mr. Bihm was employed by Body Masters for 14 years. He also owned and operated Dixie Farm Supply. At the time of his death he was a part-time Winn-Dixie associate in Rayne.
Pallbearers will be his son Matthew Bihm, Reno Leblanc, Lionel Boudreaux, his son-in-law Jamie Broussard, his grandson Drew Roy and his brother Fredrick Bihm.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Bihm, David Waxman and Brett Hoffpauir.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until services. A rosary was recited Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Henry Joseph “Hank” Redlich, Sr.
Funeral services will be held on July 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. for H. J. “Hank” Redlich, Sr. in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Hank died on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in Lake Charles after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong native of Crowley, Hank was born an October 2, 1921 to Charles Leon Redlich, Sr. and Emma Fruge Redlich. He was married to the former Violet Lorraine Miller for 62 wonderful years. Together, they have two sons, Donald Charles “Zero” Redlich and his special friend Suzanne Mouton Hill, both of Crowley and Henry Joseph “Joey” Redlich, Jr. married to the former Janice Elaine Gates, both formerly of Crowley and now residing in Lake Charles. Not only is he survived by his wife and children, but also by ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bridget Redlich Boudreaux and her husband Scott, their children, Christopher Scott Jr. and unborn son, Benjamin Ross of Lafayette, Rachael Redlich Willis and her husband Jacob, their children, Gabrielle Elise, Victoria Grace and Jacob Lawrence, Jr. of Carlyss, Henry Joseph “Jody” Redlich III of Dallas, Texas, Katherine Elizabeth Redlich and Alice Claire Redlich both of Lake Charles.
As one of seven children, Hank was proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Nathan “Johnny” Redlich and William Duson “Bill/Hoss” Redlich. His surviving siblings are Lillian Redlich Campbell formerly of Crowley and now residing in Lafayette, Ethel Redlich “Titus” Leger of Rayne, Julia Redlich Hargrove of Duson and Charles Leon “Dago” Redlich Jr. of Crowley. He will also be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Hank proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army/Air Force, stationed in Europe during World War II Returning to Crowley after the war, he entered the automobile business and worked in it for over 40 years. He worked in every capacity from parts clerk to salesman with Cleveland Motors and Frank-Linn Olds before retiring in 1986 from Meaux Pontiac-GMC.
Hank held many interests, hobbies and talents. He loved to bowl, play pool, cards and dominoes. He loved to make people laugh with funny jokes and he never wanted to miss a New York Yankees or L.S.U. baseball game or a Dallas cowboys or L.S.U. football game. Those were “his” teams. But above all, he will be most noted for his phenomenal musical talent. He could never read a note of music, however, he could play the lead guitar in such a way that would absolutely amaze anyone listening. A musician for over 70 years, he could also impress you with his talents on the fiddle, mandolin, and piano. As a tribute to his musical accomplishments, he was inducted into the Louisiana Country Music Hall of Fame, something he was extremely deserving and proud of. Hank was also a lifelong member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and a member of the local VFW Post 6720.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 27 at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of the arrangements and interment will be held in the Woodlawn Mausoleum.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Msrg. Charles Dubios; Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Rehab Unit and Extended Care of Southwest Louisiana; Dr. Arthur Primeaux and his staff; Dr. Gerald Mouton and Dr. Garret Ryder for their exceptional care of our husband, father and grandfather during his extended illness.

CHURCH POINT – Gladys “Tante” Sonnier, 87, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Funeral services was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

CHURCH POINT - Willard Oakley, 77, of Church Point died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Acadia St. Landry Hospital. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to Guidry Funeral Home.

GUEYDAN – Clara Touchet Abshire, 78, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services were pending at press time. Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan is in charge of arrangements.

JENNINGS – Mr. Alton Fredrick Dartez, 53, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help C. C. in Jennings. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

CROWLEY – Mrs. Dorothy MacDugar, 72, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 24 at the Church of Christ in Crowley. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Owen-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

Paul Barriere
HOUSTON - Paul Barriere 64, passed peacefully on July 21, 2004 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Barriere; mother-in-law, Mable Allen; son, Paul Joseph Barriere; daughter, Ondranetta (Perry) Hall; son, Bryan (Toni) Barriere; sister, Helen (Enright) Landry and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, family & friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4600 Reed Road, Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Mass will be held immediately at 10 a.m.
Officiating will be Father Joseph Varghese. Burial will be at Paradise South Cemetery.
Lockwood Funeral Home of Houston has been entrusted with all arrangements.

Charles Solomon
RAYNE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Starlight B. C. in Rayne for Charles Solomon, 32, who died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery. Reverend Mack Crayton will officiate at the services.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Solomon of Rayne; his mother, Hilda S. Boudreaux of Crowley; his father, Charles Christian of Lafayette; three daughters, Shakiyla Solomon of Sulphur, Charlesa Solomon of Crowley and Angel Solomon of Rayne; one son Charles Solomon, Jr. of Rayne; two sisters, Trellis and Starshema Marks, both of Crowley; five brothers, Wilson Marks of Crowley, Desmond, DeMarcus, Charleston and Donald Senegal, all of Lafayette and his grandfather, Edward Solomon of Crowley.
Visiting hours are from 7 a.m. until service time on Saturday at Starlight B. C.

CROWLEY – Ms. Beulah Simon, 86, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at the St. Joseph Church in Rayne. Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne. RAYNE – Casey Cahanin, 13, died Tuesday, July 21, 2004 at his residence in Rayne. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne. Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH POINT – Carl Thibodeaux, 57, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, July 22 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Monsignor Bienvenue Cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Albert “Bert” Terrebonne
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004 at 7 p.m. Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Albert “Bert” Terrebonne, 58, who died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Lafayette. Fr. Rusty Richard will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Hanks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the services.
Survivors include two brother-in-law, Billy and Arlene Abshire and their four children from Baker and Terry Abshire from Rayne; one sister-in-law, Judy Abshire from Crowley; one sister-in-law at heart, Margaret Maynard of Crowley; two lifelong brothers of the heart, Jerry Melancon of Crowley and Roger Schexnider of Midland and numerous godchildren.
Bert was a native of Rayne and a resident of Crowley. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam where he was severely wounded and lost a lower limb when his tank rolled over a land mine. Never letting that slow him down, he went on to live a full and productive life. He was an avid billiards player for many years. He belonged to a local American Poolplayers Association team that recently qualified to play in Nationals this coming August. Good luck to his team mates, he will be with you in spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Abshire Terrebonne and his parents, Lynnwood Terrebonne and Della Courville Terrebonne.

Leo Percy Harmon
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 10 a.m. for Leo Percy Harmon, who died July 14, at Meadow Brook Rehabilitation Center.
He is survived by his long time companion and wife, Jo Ann Boutte-Harmon, two daughters, Janice Robinson McGhee and her husband Hosea of Leonardwood, Mo.; and Raquel Robinson Mosley and her husband Edward of Fredericksburg, Va.; one step-daughter, Joan A. Smith of Baton Rouge; one step-son, Rudolph C. Smith, II; two sisters, Nora Lee Guillory of Crowley and Savannah Domingue and her husband Curley of Norfolk, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Bryunna and Hosea McGhee, Jr., Keona Delco, Devante Mosley, Marcus Garrett, Jr. Tyler Smith, LaChynna Cormier Smith, Quantishia Lewis Smith, Tamara Lewis Smith, T. LaRudi Smith, Rudolph C. Smith III and Nahriah Hampton Smith; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Leo P. Harmon was employed at the time of his death by Louisiana Bag Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Guidry and Leo Harmon and one brother, Anthony Harmon.
Owen-Thomas Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home located at 617 W. 4th St. in Crowley. It will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by the funeral proceedings and interment at South Crowley Cemetery.

Teri Hanks Miller
A memorial service was held Monday afternoon, July 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Northside Assembly of God in Crowley for Teri Hanks Miller, 42, who died Thursday, July 15, at University Medical Center in Lafayette. The Rev. Loyd Singley and Terrel Reed officiated at the services.
Survivors include her mother, Gloria Hanks; three sisters, Jackie McCroskey, Amanda Doucet and Linda Leger; two nephews, Tyler McCroskey and Joshua Doucet; two nieces, Kristina Mire and Sarah Leger; and a very special friend, Florence Mauboules.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oural Hanks, Jr.

CROWLEY - Clyde Robinson, 25, of Crowley died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 20 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will be in the South Crowley Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

CHURCH POINT - Joseph Clavin “Joe” Lyons, 77, of Church Point died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Opelousas General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Church Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to Guidry Funeral Home.

Agnes M. Thibodeaux
A memorial service was held Friday, July 16, at 9:30 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church for Agnes M. Thibodeaux, 87, who died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in Baton Rouge.
Interment will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery. Father Sonny officiated at the services.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Fruge and her husband Daniel; Sandra Deroun and her husband Siggie; three brothers, Sherwin, Norman and Kitty Manuel; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Lovenia Manuel; her husband, Armond “Thib” Thibodeaux; two sons, Ron Cart and Keith Thibodeaux; one daughter, Barbara Nell Roy; three brothers, Whitney, Joe and Elwin Manuel and one sister, Kora Manuel.
Raben Hurst Funeral Home of Baton Rouge was entrusted with the arrangements.

Dr. John Mitchell Jenkins, Jr.
John Mitchell Jenkins, Jr. of Hampstead, North Carolina died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center.
Mitch was born in Greenville, South Carolina on November 6, 1909, the son the late John Mitchell Jenkins, Sr. and Edwynne Taylor Jenkins. He was married to the late Carol Wynn Jenkins.
He is survived by a sister, Katharine Cowen and her husband Ralph of Crowley; a son, John Mitchell Jenkins III and his wife Janet of Hampstead, N. C.; a daughter, Elizabeth Kalfin and her husband Harvey of Hubert, N. C.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mitch was a member of Topsail Presbyterian Church in Hampstead and has served as an Elder there. He was a long time member and past president of Wilmington Rotary Club.
Mitch graduated from Clemson College with a B. S. in horticulture. He later earned a M. S. from Louisiana State University and P.h.d. from the University of Minnesota. On graduation from Clemson he received his commission in the U. S. Army. He was called to active duty during World War II. He served thirty years in the U. S. Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. After World War II he accepted a job with North Carolina State University with the responsibility of starting a new Agriculture Experiment Station in Southeast North Carolina.
He found property near Castle Hayne and over saw the establishment of the Horticultural Crop Research Station there. He served as superintendent of the station until his retirement in 1975.

Patricia “Patsy” Habetz
Patricia “Patsy” Habetz, 64, of LeBleu Settlement passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2004 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Habetz was a native of Rayne and has lived in LeBleu Settlement for the past 23 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Rayne. She attended (SLI) Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. Mrs. Habetz was an Administrative Clerk for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office after working many years at “The Old America Store.”
Mrs. Habetz was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society in LeBleu Settlement.
Mrs. Habetz was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed in the lives of those she treasured.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Bernard Habetz of LeBleu Settelement; four sons, Christopher Habetz of LeBleu Settlement; Marty Habetz and wife Annette of Longville; Keith Habetz and wife Kelli of Lake Charles; and Nick Habetz and wife Nicole of Prairieviille; one daughter, Pamela Espey and husband Keith of Ragley; seven grandchildren, Clintin Habetz, Garrett Habetz, Anna Espey, Ethan Habetz, Caroline Habetz, Tanner Habetz and Hayden Habetz; and one brother, Chuck Molbert of Many.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Iowa. Monsignor Charles DuBois will officiate. Burial will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery in Robert’s Cove. Visitation will be observed on Friday from noon until 10 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation Saturday will be from 8 a.m. until noon in the funeral home.

CHURCH POINT – Curley Daigle, 80, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Acadia St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Hosea Mae Prewitt Harmon
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15 at First United Methodist Church for Hosea Mae Prewitt Harmon, 97, who died July 12, 2004 at Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor. Rev. Bob Hollis will be officiating for the services. Interment will be at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Mrs. Harmon was born in Hughes Springs, Texas on December 5, 1906. She was the daughter of Hosea B. and Susie Mac Roberts Prewitt. She was reared in Columbia, La. and graduated from Grayson High School and University of Southwestern Louisiana. Mrs. Harmon was a retired North Crowley Elementary teacher. She was a member of the Three Ten Club, The Town Club, First United Methodist Women, First United Methodist Church and the Crowley Garden Club.
She is survived by her son, Winsor D. Harmon, Jr.; two grandsons, Victor Harmon, and Winsor D. Harmon, III; one great-grandson, Winsor D. Harmon, IV.
She was preceded in death by her husband Winsor D. Harmon, Sr.; and one brother, Col. Richard R. Prewitt.
Visitation may be observed from 8 a.m. to the time of service at First United Methodist Church on Thursday.

Betty T. Hebert
KAPLAN - Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, 2004 at a 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Catholic Church honoring the life of Betty T. Hebert, 68, who died July 10, 2004 at her residence.
She was laid to rest in Kaplan Cemetery. Reverend Sonny Brown officiated at the services.
She is survived by one son, Stanley Hebert, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Perry; three daughters, Lynn Hebert of Kaplan, Lori Hebert of Crowley and Traci and her husband Chris Broussard of Kaplan; one sister, Loris Abshire of Plantersville, Texas and eight grandchildren, Marty Todd Perry, Kyle Johnson, Jalen Johnson, Jodi Condi, Kelli Condi, Steven Condi, Noell Hebert and Reiss Hebert.
She was preceded in death by ber husband, Stanley Hebert, Sr.; her parents, Arcade Trahan and the former Newoley Saltzman; her son-in-law, Brian Perry and her step-father, Edlar Schaxnider.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Colbert J. Richard
EGAN- Funeral services for Colbert J. Richard, 82, of Egan will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, July 11 at St. Michael’s Church in Egan with Fr. Broussard officiating. Burial will be in the Sensat Cemetery in Egan under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.
Mr. Richard went peacefully, at home, with family, Friday, July 9 at 12:15 p.m.
He was born October 18, 1921 in Robert’s Cove and was a resident of Egan for most of his life. He was retired from the maintenance department of the Acadia Parish Police Jury. Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ella Mae Clement Richard, his two daughters, Wilma Marcotte of New Iberia, Bobbie Doucet, son-in-law Walter; his son, Daniel, daughter-in-law Judy of Lake Charles; two sisters, Lou Ethel Simar of Egan and Wava Abshire of Toledo Bend, TX.; four granddaughters, Rene’ Callouet and husband Brian of Iota; LaDonna Waldrep and husband Brad of Addis, Krista Hammer and husband Rob of Carlyss, and Daniel’ Richard of Houston; four grandons, Craig McFarland of California, Jason Richard and wife Janna of San Antonio, Corey Doucet and wife Elsie of Allen, TX. and Lucien Richard and wife Mishel of Jacksonville, FL.; six great-granddaughters, Paige and Courtney Callouet, Lauren Waldrep, Brittany and Emileigh Hammer, and Taylor Richard; and six great-grandsons Nicholas and Alex Hammer, Brandon and Tyler Rockforte, Brennon Richard and Ethan Doucet (Alphonse).
Mr. Richard was preceded in death by his father Joe Richard, mother Emma Richard Hebert, and step-father Felicien Hebert; two brothers, Curley Richard and Curtis Hebert and three sisters, Gurtie Hebert, Vernice Klumpp and Beatrice Cormier.

Marie B. Miller
Funeral services were held Wednesday July 7, 2004 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Marie B. Miller, 91, who died Monday July 5, 2004 at the Rayne Guest Home.
Survivors include one daughter Betty M. Latiolais of Rayne; one grandson and his wife Gregory and Angelina Latiolais of Rayne; three sisters Addie B. LeBlanc, of Duson, Beulah B. Abshire, Lake Charles, Helen B. Weber of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Miller, grandson Joseph Jude Latiolais, her parents Simeon, and Elise Sonnier Brasseaux, five brothers Aristile, Ophie, Andres, Whitney, and Joseph Brasseaux;two sisters Edmae B. Comeaux, and Yolande B. Miller, her son-in-law Ewel J. Latiolais.

Wilfred J. Broussard
A Memorial Mass will he held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Wilfred J. Broussard who died July 4, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Father Gary Schexnayder will be officiating for the services.
Mr. Broussard was a Veteran of World War II. Following his honorable discharge from active duty in the South Pacific, he made his home in Sparks, Nevada residing there for 54 years. He returned to Louisiana in 2001 and resided at Landmark Retirement.
He is survived by two sisters, Mabel Gautreaux of Rayne and Lorraine Knox of Escalon, Calif.; two brothers Robert Broussard of Detroit and Percy Broussard of Destrehan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Broussard is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Richard Broussard; his parents, David and Sylvia Breaux Broussard; three brothers, Lawrence, Adam, and Levi Broussard, and five sisters, Gabrielle B. Viator, Edna B. Viator, Della B. Gautreaux, Emay Broussard and Agnes B. Hebert.
Visitation may be observed Friday from 12 p.m. to the time of service.

Ambroise “A.G.” Suire
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 8, at 11 a.m. at Wesley Methodist Church for Ambroise “A.G.” Suire, 73, who died Monday, July 5, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery. Rev. Truman Stagg will officiate at the services.
Mr. Suire was retired from the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Suire was an umpire for 47 years for the Crowley Recreation, he was also President of the Rice City Senior Citizen for four years and Secretary Treasurer for Pelican State.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stafford Suire of Crowley; one daughter, Cecile Suire of Iota; two step-daughters, Kay Cuccio of Crowley and Jeanette Newman of Atlanta; on step-son, Wayne Davis of New Orleans; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Olivia Betty Milliam; his parents, Adias and Josephine Suire; and his siblings.
Pallbearers will be Pacerd Newman, Eric Newman, Rufus Hoffpauir, Jeff Higginbotham and Guy Cuccio
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m on Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a viewing at the church from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iota, Louisiana for Ramona Klein Major, 72, who died July 5, 2004 at her residence in Beaumont, Texas.
Mrs. Major was born in Braymer, Missouri and lived in Beaumont since 1961 and was a retired bookkeeper of the Ridgewood Shopping Center and the Ridgewood Apartments.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate the committal services. Interment will be in Saint Joseph cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Kost and her husband, David, of Wooster, Ohio and Becky Roemer of Nederland, Texas; two sons, Steve Major and his wife Dewesa of Beaumont, Texas and Alan Major of Beaumont, Texas; one brother, Joe Klein of Sierra Vista, Arizona; one sister, Dorothy Stroud of Bossier City, Louisiana; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Major is preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Major; three brothers and two sisters.

ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2004, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Geneva “Sis” Fontenot, 83, who died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Father Buddy Breaux officiated the services. Burial was held at the Estherwood Memorial Cemetery in Estherwood.

GUEYDAN - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for Stella Belle Stutes Sarver, 87, who died on Friday, July 2, 2004 at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Rev. Kemper Smith will officiate for the services with scripture readings by Randy Daily. The visitation will be observed on Tuesday, July 6, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Interment will be in the Gueydan Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Gayle Sarver Hair and her husband, William B., of Gueydan; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Walters Sarver of Gueydan; five grandchildren, Monica Hair Norsworthy of Lake Charles, Kevin Dale Sarver of Youngsville, William Troy Hair of Gueydan, Melanie Dawn Sarver of Lafayette and Christine Sarver Armour of Memphis, Tenn. and nine great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mollie Faulk Stutes; her husband, Wilmer F. Sarver; two sons, Frank Darrell and Johnny Marion Sarver; four brothers and two sisters.

Stella was a native of Ebenezer being born September 17, 1916 and a resident of Gueydan for the past 65 years.

MORSE - Funeral services were held Sunday, July 4, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Morse for Mary Rose Dartez Richard, 77, who died on Friday, July 2, 2004 at her residence.
Rev. Don Pousson officiated for the services. The visitation was observed on Saturday, July 3, until 10 p.m., and continued on Sunday from 8 a.m. until service time.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3.
Interment was in the Hanks Cemetery.
Survivors include her companion, Wilbert Cormier of Morse; three sons, Ray Allen Richard and his wife, Diana, of Rayne, James Richard and his wife, Elsie, of Gueydan and Leewood Richard of Morse; four daughters, Linda Richard of Gueydan, Peggy Grace and her husband, Jim, of Lafayette, Tammy Marquez and her husband, Roberto, of Estherwood and Jo Anne Dyson and her husband, Chet, of Roanoke; one brother, Julius Dartez of Port Arthur, Texas; two sisters, Annie Mae Periou of Port Arthur, Texas and Sarah McGee of Houma; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was a native of Maurice being born May 11, 1927 and a resident of Morse. For someone who could not always get the words out, her face said it all. She was generous with smile, she had a loving touch and an incurable sweet tooth.

Oscar Lee Petry
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 1, at 10 a.m. at Ebenezer Nazarene Church for Oscar Lee Petry, 80, who died Monday, June 28, 2004, at the Crowley Guest House.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery. Pastor Wayland Gawthrop will officiate at the services.
Mr. Petry served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theater. He retired from Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas in 1981 after working there for 34 years.
Survivors include his wife, June Petry of Ebenezer; one daughter, Debra Bohanna and her husband Don of Groves, Texas; one son, Mark Petry of Ebenezer; two sisters, Chloe Harington of Crowley and Katie Faulk of Mauriceville, Texas; three half-brothers, George Petry of Richmond, Va., Carson and Winston Petry, both of Lafayette; one half-sister, Thelma Whited of DeRidder; one grandchild, Donita Turner and her husband Chris of Groves, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Britni and Colton Turner of Groves, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lynn and Mattie Daily Petry, Sr.; two brothers, Creighton and Earnest Lynn Petry, Jr.; three sisters, Lois Sarver, Olive Sarver and Marie Petry.
