Mary Ruby Malone
VINTON- Funeral services for Mary Ruby Malone, 77 of Vinton, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Vinton, Louisiana. Rev. Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in the Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, under the direction of Vinton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Malone died in the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur on Saturday, June 26, 2004. Visitation was at the funeral home, 1420 Francher St., Vinton, La. There was be a rosary Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Visitation will resume again on Wednesday June 30, 2004 from 8 a.m. until service time.
Mrs. Malone was born on July 10, 1926 to Maurice and Josephine Daigle in Church Point. Survivors include her husband, Cecil C. Malone of Vinton; one brother, James B. Daigle of Church Point, one sister Mrs. John Miller of Crowley, two nieces and two nephews. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com

RAYNE – Hilda Miller, 80, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne. Burial was in the St. Joseph Mausoleum #2 under he direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Sherry ‘Candy’ Gaspard
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 3:30 p.m in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Sherry “Candy” Gaspard, age 59, the former Sherry Kay Greene, who died Monday, June 28, 2004 at 10:10 a.m. in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. Pastor Jacob Aranza, of Our Saviors Church in Broussard, will officiate at the services.
Mrs. Gaspard was a native of Silsbee, TX and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She was a former Director of Acadiana Crisis Pregnancy Center of Lafayette until 1995.
Survivors include: one son, R. Lane Gaspard II and his wife, Kristin, of Lafayette; two daughters, Keisha Gaspard Ryan of Lafayette and Summer C. Bagwell and her husband, Richard of Lafayette, three grandchildren Jeffrey Lee Ryan Jr., Joshua Alexander Ryan, and Madeline Elise Gaspard; her mother Daisy Bell Morgan, of Bay St. Louis Ms.; and three sisters, Judy Gay Greene of Bay St. Louis, Ms, Linda Joy Ricks and her husband Edward of Poplarville, Ms and Bonnie Bell Saul and her husband Michael of Poplarville, Ms.; and her former husband Ronnie L. Gaspard of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her father Douglas Paul Greene.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until service time.

Viola Bertrand
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church in Crowley for Viola Bertrand, 82, who died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley. Brother Ernest Toepfer will officiate the services.
Survivors include two sons, Wilber and wife Beulah Bertrand of Crowley and Lenwood and his wife Susie Bertrand of Pineville; one daughter, Linda Mae and her husband Lyndrus Primeaux of Crowley; one son-in-law, John G. Hanks of Crowley; one brother, Calvin and his wife Amarone Soileau of Opelousas; one sister, Etna Dupuis of Berwick; eleven grandchildren, Josette, Jessica, Lynn Joseph, Shenny, Mary, Wilbur (Bubba), Cheryl, Krystal, Matthew, Joni and Jay; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Bertrand; one son, Raymond Bertrand; two sisters, Lydia Thibodeaux and Ella Fruge; and her parents, Decoudra and Melazie Ledoux Soileaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

Henry J. Meyer, Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Henry J. Meyer, Jr., 62, who died on Friday, June 25, 2004.
Father Rusty Richard officiated for the services. The visitation was observed on Friday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and continued on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, June 25.
Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include four brothers, Ben Meyer of Rayne; Ronald Meyer of Conroe, Texas and Harold and his wife, Carol and Lee Meyer and his wife, Shirley, all of Crowley; four sisters, Marjorie Simar and her husband, Louis “Bud,” Anna Lois Lormand and her husband, Francis and Doris Guidry and her husband, Farol, all of Crowley and Sylvia Cochran and her husband, Claude of Pasadena, Texas; 25 nieces and nephews; a host of great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elna Lafleur Meyer, Sr.; one brother, Gerald Meyer and two sister-in-laws, Virginia and Loretta Meyer.
Pallbearers were Ben Meyer, Jr., Marcus and Alva Dan Meyer, Gerald Guilbeaux, John Leonard Andre and Jeffery Lormand.
Honorary Pallbearers were Ben, Harold, Ronald and Lee Meyer.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was entrusted with the arrangements.

Norma “Pat” Beasley
A memorial services will be held Sunday afternoon, June 27, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church located on 4th Street in Crowley for Norma “Pat” Beasley, 87, who died Friday, May 28, 2004. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Tenn.
Survivors include her two sons, Bill Beasley, Sr. of Morse and Al E. Beasley, Jr. of Baton Rouge; her daughter, P.J. Godwin of Orange Beach, Ala.; her grandchildren, Billy Beasley Jr. of Iota, Chad Beasley of Morse, Elizabeth Marshall of Morse, Celena Beasley of Tenn., Austin Godwin of Orange Beach, Ala.; and her great grandchildren, Dylan Beasley of Morse and Christopher Marshall of Morse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Beasley, Sr.; one son, John S. Beasley; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Billington.

DUSON – Betty Campbell, 48, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Vermilion Health Care in Nunez. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 25 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne. Burial will be in St. Theresa Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

RAYNE – Mrs. Jennifer Rose Robertson, 39, died Saturday, June 20 at at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at Cunningham CME in Rayne. Burial will be in the Rayne Protestant Cemetery under the direction of Owen-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

Nancy O’Quin Schexnayder
HOUSTON - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Geesey-Ferguson funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Nancy O'Quin Schexnayder, 64, who died June 18, 2004 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston.
The Reverend Loyd Singley, Northside Assembly of God Church in Crowley, will be officiating for the services. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Ulysse "Jake" Schexnayder of Houston; one daughter, Wanda Janelle Chase of Houston; one son, Ulysse Curtis Schexnayder of Houston; one grandson, Marcus Michael Chase of Houston; and four sisters, Betty Huval, Joanna Miller, Amy Sonnier, and Ruby Brauninger.
Mrs. Schexnayder is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Nancy Smith O'Quin,
Visitation will be observed Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Margaret Hoffpauir Romero
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, June 25, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Nazarene Church for Margaret Hoffpauir Romero, 70, who died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery. Pastor Joe Talhelm will officiate at the services.
Survivors include three sisters, Bonnie Richard of Estherwood, Catherine Leger of Morse and Debra Hoffpauir of Estherwood and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eudea Romero.
Visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Willie Richard Steen, Jr.
IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Willie Richard Steen, Jr., 66, who died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at his residence in. Iota.
Father David Broussard, Pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, will be officiating for the services. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Mausoleum.
Mr. Steen was a lifelong resident of Iota and a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. He was a rice, soybean and crawfish farmer all of his life and served his country in the United States Marines.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Daigle Steen of lota; one daughter, Jolaine Steen Edwards and her husband Mister of Moss Bluff; three sons, Jayce Richard Steen and his wife Mary, Douglas K. Steen and his wife Regena and Cody Ray Steen and his wife Dana all of Iota; one sister, Dorothy Mc Manus and her husband Dr. Robert McManus of Iota;13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mr. Steen is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Richard Steen, Sr. and Pearl Reed Steen.
Visitation will be observed Thursday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A rosary will be prayed Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Anna F. Winbush
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004 at First Church of God In Christ, Crowley, LA, officiated by Supt. Alton Gatlin, Pastor, for Anna F. Winbush, 78, who died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Interment will be in the West Crowley Cemetery.
A native of Crowley, she was a retired employee of the Acadia Parish School Board.
She is survived by four sons, Rodric L. Winbush, Jr. of Lafayette, Timothy L. Winbush, Sr. of Crowley, Lindsey Lloyd of Allen, Texas and Larry Lloyd of Luftkin, Texas; two daughters, Jennal Holts of Houston and Patricia Holloway of Luftkin, Texas; one brother, William Hawkins of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
The family is requesting visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m., Wednesday at First Church of God In Christ, Crowley.

LAWTELL – John Allen Byrd, 21, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at a friend’s home in Lawtell. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Burial will be in St. Bridget Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.

CHURCH POINT – Lloyd Menard, 68, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at Guidry Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home.

CROWLEY – Ms. Editha Patin Breaux, 84, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Extended Care of Southwest in Lake Charles. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 21, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Burial will be in the St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

RICHARD – Eurance Dies, 73, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Adeline T. Clark
GUEYDAN - Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home honoring the life of Adeline T. Clark, 64, who died June 19, 2004 at Abbeville General Hospital.
Interment was at Hanks Cemetery in Morse. Reverend Mitchell Guidry officiated the services.
She is survived by a son, Terry James Clark and his wife Kathy of Gueydan; two daughters, Florinda and her husband Zeph Lege of Kaplan; and Kimble and her husband Jonney Bonvillion of Gueydan; two brothers, Bufford Touchet of Winnie, Texas and David Touchet of Chandler, Texas; three sisters, Laura Broussard, Debra Thibodeaux and Caron Italien all of Winnie, Texas; and four grandchildren, Kaide Lege, Barrett Lege, Lacey Bonvillion and Sumer Bonvillion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Obray F. Clark; her parents, Ernest Touchet and the former Helena Fontenot; step-father, John Touchet; and her brother, Kernis Touchet.
The visiting hours were observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 311 Fourth Street, Gueydan, Sunday, June 20th from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday, June 21 from 8 a.m. until services.

Allan Roy Venable
IOTA - Mr. Allan Roy Venable was born on July 2, 1938 and lost a courageous battle with cancer at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston on June 20, 2004. As he told us before he had to leave, he's now with us as the special angel to all those whom lie loved. He was born in Iota and enjoyed being a Bulldog until his 1956 graduation from Iota High School (and a lifelong fan.) He graduated from Pharmacy School at Northeast State Louisiana University in Monroe in 1961. Following a pharmacy, management and consulting career of 42 years in Lake Charles, he retired to Iota. He enjoyed being a member of the Lion's Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was a past president of the Calcasieu Parish Pharmaceutical Association. Mr. Venable loved spending time with people and gardening. He also enjoyed sports, especially hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores McFarlain Venable; his sister, Madeline Venable; his daughter Lisa Venable Manuel, R.Ph. and her husband and children, Gary Manuel, M.D., Chad and Jay Manuel; his daughter, Rhonda R. Venable, Ph,D.; stepchildren, Richelle McFarlain Frey and her husband and daughter Kenny and Caroline Frey; Donald McFarlain, his fiancé Alison Dietz and their children Christopher and Jeanne-Claire Fleming; and honorary daughter, Jeri Fitzpatrick, M.D.
He was also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sheila Veronie, Louella Gotte and Ethel Hewett; mother-in-law, Ellen LeJeune Veronie and his aunts Blanche Henderson and Georgia McNeil.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years Jean Veronie Venable and his parents Frank and Coy Venable.
Please join his family for fond remembrances and a celebration of his life. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, and Thursday, June 24, at 9 a.m. until time of services at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Evangeline, LA and his body will be entombed at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Jennings.

Marie B. Broussard
GUEYDAN- Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2004 at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Marie H. Broussard, 85, who died June 22, 2004 at her home in Gueydan.
She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Guidry officiating the services. She is survived by three sons, Rodney Broussard and wife Shirley, Sheldon Broussard and wife Darlene, and Robert Broussard and wife Brenda, all of Gueydan; two daughters, Cecile Linscomb of Lake Arthur and Aline and her husband Wayne Martin of Gueydan; a brother, Lawrence Boudreaux of Morse; two sisters, Eunice Hoffpauir of Crowley and Velma Chiasson of Nunez, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; and four great-great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aldis Broussard; a grandson, Craig Broussard; two brothers, Ollie Boudreaux and Lovelace Boudreaux; and a sister, Thelma Dorr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 311 Fourth Street, Gueydan, Wednesday, June 23 from 9 a.m. until services on Thursday, June 24.

Gertrude Grotefend Faulk
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Gertrude Grotefend Faulk, 89, who died June 18, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley.
Rev. Larry Langley will be officiating for the service. Assisting him will be Rev. Roger Tarver and Rev. Larry Evans.
Mrs. Faulk is survived by two daughters, Alice Rogers of Bryant, AR., and Cynthia McKenzie of Petaluma, CA.; three grandsons, Drew Rogers of Bryant, AR., Ryan Rogers of Magnolia, AR., and Adam McKenzie of Petaluma, CA.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Myrl Faulk; two brothers, Walter and Edgar Grotefend; and three sisters, Ruth Beiber, Edith Atteberry and Alice Grotefend.
Visitation may be observed from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services today.

Howard A. "Boochie" Duncan
   Funeral services for Howard A. “Boochie” Duncan were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Brown officiating. Burial was held in the Maxie Cemetery in Maxie.
Mr. Duncan, 76, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Center.
Visitation was observed Monday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Crowley. He was the owner of Duncan Construction Company for 51 years.
Receiving his general contractor license in 1963, Mr. Duncan built homes, banks, offices, shopping centers, schools, nursing homes and various other structures in the Crowley and Acadia Parish area.
Mr. Duncan served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley and a active member of American Legion Post 15 where he had held the offices of adjutant, vice-commander and commander. He served over 40 years as a member of the Board of Directors of American Legion Hospital and his foresight was instrumental in the planning of the new hospital at its present site in 1987. He also constructed the original hospital and the later third floor addition. He had also served as vice president of the board.
Additionally, Mr. Duncan was on the Board of Directors and the executive committee of the Crowley Building and Loan.
He served eight years on the Crowley City Council, 22 years on the Acadia Parish Police Jury with four of those years as the president. Mr. Duncan also served three years in the Louisiana State Senate.
As State Senator in 1966, Mr. Duncan along with Rep. Allen Gremillion, co-authored a bill which provided state funds to construct the Southwest Louisiana Developmental Center, a residential school near Iota for mentally retarded children.
While serving on the Police Jury, Duncan obtained state funds to construct the Acadia Parish Multi-Purpose Building. He was also instrumental in obtaining the land which was leased from the Acadia Parish School Board to construct the facility.
In 1996 he was named to the State Licensing Board for Contractors by Governor Mike Foster.
A longtime member of the Crowley Town Club, Mr. Duncan served as King Cimmer XXIII for the Mardi Gras Ball in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Suzanne Zaunbrecher of Crowley; one son and his wife, Shea and Kathy Duncan of Crowley; one daughter and her husband, Mona and Johnny Venable of Crowley; one grandson, Bryant James Venable; two granddaughters, Kathryn Shea and Sybil Lorraine Duncan, all of Crowley; and one brother, Robert C. Duncan of Houston, Tx.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Duncan and Mabel Raspberry Duncan Stakes of Crowley and two brothers, Colonel George Carwin Duncan of Pineville and Vernon (Tat) Duncan of Crowley.
Pallbearers were John W. “Chief” Andrus, John Breaux, Byron Core, John Wales, Michael Stefanski and Brett Stefanski.
Honorary pallbearers were Arthur LeBlanc, Dr. Ernest Petitjean, Dr. T.L. McNeely, L.J. Dailey and Jan Alleman, all members of the Crowley Building and Loan Board of Directors along with James Zaunbrecher, Leonard “Doc” Zaunbrecher, Charlie Beard, Galbert Ducrest, Robert Kahn, Gilles Piron and Ravien Istre.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Craig Anthony Broussard
GUEYDAN - Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, at 2 p.m. Vincent Funeral Home in Gueydan for Craig Anthony Broussard, 46, who died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his home in Gueydan.
He was laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Pastor Howard “Bubba” McCann officiating the services.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie McClelland Broussard of Gueydan; two sons, Jeremy and Jance Broussard, both of Gueydan; two daughters; Angel Lyons of Crowley and Dominique Broussard of Gueydan; his mother, Cecile Linscomb of Gueydan; maternal grandmother; Marie Broussard of Gueydan; two step-brothers, Stephen Linscomb of Utah and Sean Linscomb of Texas; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Aldis Broussard and stepfather, Donald Linscomb.
All funeral arrangements were conducted by Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan.

EUNICE – Herman “Tookie” Lawrence, Jr., 8, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 18 at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Jerusalem B.C. Cemetery in Eunice under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Eunice.

CROWLEY – Mr. Ivory Lambert, 71, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday June 18 at Agape Pentecostal Church in Crowley. Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Crowley is in charge of arrangements

Funeral services are tentatively set for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Sidney Ray Murphy, 57, who died at his residence in Roberts Cove. Interment will be in Kie Hebert Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
He is survived by his wife, Tonia Baker Murphy of Roberts Cove; one daughter, Ashley Murphy of Kansas; one son, Audie Murphy of Crowley; two brothers, Ervin and Nelson Murphy of Crowley; and one grandchild.
Mr. Murphy is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucille Trahan Murphy; two brothers, Wayne and Donnie Murphy.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Barbara Anne ‘Sallie’ Morgan Broussard
  Funeral services were held at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Barbara Anne "Sallie" Morgan Broussard, 73, who died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at her residence surrounded by four generations of family and following a brave battle with cancer.
Interment took place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Rev. Mario Romero, Pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, was Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services.
Mrs. Broussard, the daughter of the late Shelton D. Morgan, Sr. and the former Marie Mersch, was a native of Rayne and resident of Carencro. Sallie’s family lovingly remembers her kind-hearted, generous nature and her zest for living. Her friends noted that she was blessed with many gifts and talents. Sallie used her gifts to brighten the lives of loved ones and strangers alike. She was a talented porcelain doll maker and crafted more than 200 dolls. She was also an artist, seamstress, decorator and cook. She restored numerous religious statues for churches and homes. Her work in St. John Berchman’s Church of Cankton touched the lives of other parishioners and the sick. Sally also gave her time to nursing home residents.
She held memberships in many organizations including St. John Berchman’s Altar Society, Catholic Daughters Court #2317 in Carencro, Our Loving Lady Rosary Group and Our Lady Rosa Mystica Prayer Group. Sallie was also a rosary leader, Eucharistic Minister and world traveler. She especially enjoyed her pilgrimages to Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje and Guadalupe. She was devoted to her church, Padre Pio and the Chaplet of Tears and to her favorite prayer, the Diving Mercy Rosary. Sallie received the Miraculous Medal for the Children of Mary Program.
The deceased leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Sidney Linest Broussard; one brother, Shelton D. Morgan, Jr. and his wife Betty; one sister, Naomi M. Chaote; six children, Scott J. Broussard and his wife Colleen, Barbara Fontenot and her husband Jerry, Terrie Simpson and her husband Chuck, Jody Broussard and his wife Laura Jean, Laura Zaunbrecher and husband Greg, and Shelley Marr and her husband Danny; sixteen grandchildren, Natalie Lemoine and husband Lewis, Victoria Broussard, Cody and Ali Fontenot, Tyler, Matthew, and Shelby Simpson, Blanche, Cory, and Gregory Zaunbrecher, Christy and Scott Broussard, Amy Brazda, Stephanie Brown, and Phillip and Jacklyn Marr. Sallie also leaves behind one great-grandson, Cole Michael Lemoine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Shell D. Morgan and Marie Mersch Morgan.
A Rosary was recited by the Ladies Altar Society on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers were Cody Fontenot, Tyler and Matthew Simpson, Gregory Zaunbrecher, Randy Choate, and Shelton Morgan.
The family of Sallie Broussard extends their sincerest gratitude to Kelly Zaunbrecher of Hospice of Acadiana and staff, Dr. John Rainey, Felicia Fontenot and staff, Sister Ignatius, Mary Angelle, Lucille Venable, Anna Lawrence and so many others who prayed for Sallie and her family.

   ZACHARY- Adley, a loving husband, father, father-in-law, "Paw-paw” and loyal friend went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Monday, June 14, 2004. This was at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet after a lengthy illness. He was 71 years of age and born in Crowley and a resident of Baker.
He was a retired Pipeline Operator with Colonial Pipeline Co. He was a machinists mate, third Class in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W. and he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving and motorcycle riding and was a ham radio operator. Most of all, he enjoyed crawfish boils with his family and friends. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet.
Fr. Fred Youngs will conduct Rosary Service at the Charlet Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Thursday visiting will be at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Baker from 8:30 a.m. until Mass at 10 a.m, conducted by Fr. CHURCH POINT – Ivan “Bright” Jagneaux, 66, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at his residence in Church Point. Eola Robbins Colton
HOUSTON - Mrs. Eola Robbins Colton left this earth for eternal rest on June 14, 2004 after a brief illness. Eola or "Ollie" as she was known to her many friends and family was 98 years old and was living In a Skilled Nursing Care Facility in League City, Texas when she passed away. Mrs. Colton is survived by her son, Lowell Starns of Houston and had been living with him in Houston for the past six years. She was born in Crowley on November 17, 1905 and had been a long time resident of Crowley. She was employed for many years in the family owned business, Robbins South Crowley Bakery. The bakery closed several years ago.
Mrs. Lola Colton was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Colton, who owned a Tax and Accounting Service in Crowley. She was also preceded in death by another son, Charles A. Starns; her parents James Bradley and Sally Farris Robbins; nine brothers and sisters, James, Stone, Sigmund, Pershing, Teddy, Woodrow, Emma Short, Helen Sargent, and Elizabeth Robbins.
Mrs. Colton was an active member in the Order of Eastern Stars, Crowley Chapter until she moved to Houston several years ago.
Funeral Arrangements will be handled by Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley, La. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 2:00 p.m. with graveside ceremonies immediately following the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. Elizabeth Lyman Barnett
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church in Crowley for Elizabeth Lyman Barnett, 99, who died June 6, 2004 at the Crowley American Legion Hospital. Rev. Roger Brown officiated the services. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnett was a life time member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was valedictorian of the 1924 graduating class at S.L.I. which is now University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During her career she served as the Executive Secretary of the Crowley Chamber of Commerce and as president from 1978 to 1979. She worked as a case worker for the Louisiana Public Welfare Service, and she was also the publisher of the Acadia Parish Legal News. Mrs. Barnett was the last surviving member of Crowley High School's Class of 1921.
She is survived by her son, Col. James W. Barnett, Jr. of Winchester, Virginia; one brother, William Rochel Lyman of Lafayette; one sister, Dorothy Lyman Whatley of Broussard; one sister-in-law, Miriam Nicholson Lyman of Opelousas; and numerous nieces and nephews,
Mrs. Barnett is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Barnett, Sr.; her parents, Rev. Charles Wood and Louise Rochel Lyman, Sr.; one sister, Katherine Lyman Cornay; and two brothers, Frank Roberts Lyman, and Charles Wood Lyman, Jr.

Mrs. Istre is preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Istre; her parents, Euphemon and Alix Roy Thibodeaux; two daughters, Hilda Mate Istre Suire and Elena Ann Istre; one sister, Etis Broussard; two brothers, Matthew and Maisy Thibodeaux and two grandchildren, Timothy Wayne IStre and Patrick James Suire.
Mrs. Istre was a life time member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and served on the Ladies Altar Society.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for Hazel J. Hall, 77, who died Monday, June 5, 2004, at her residence in Crowley.
Interment will be in West Crowley Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Burnette will officiate at the services.
Mrs. Hall was born April 3, 1927. She was a member of Morning Star where she served as a member of the choir, deaconess board and general mission. She was also a wonderful beautician.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Ivory James Jennings; one daughter, McFleur Dianna Jennings and one sister, Erma Wright, all of Crowley; six grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Cleveland C. Hall; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perfect (Levenia) Augustus and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Morris and Mrs. Leanna Gilmore.

Mrs. Marx, the daughter of the late Edwin Shields Wilson and the former Laura Alice Summers, was a native of Gueydan and a resident of Lafayette. She graduated from Abbeville High School in 1929 and attended SLI. Mrs. Marx worked for United Gas Pipeline of Crowley and retired from the State of Louisiana Department of Social Services. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the P.E.O. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and as a loyal friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice North and husband, Don of Alexandria, and Ellin Busch and husband, Brit of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Kent and Janet Morgan of Houston, Scott and Jenny Carrier of Lafayette, Tracy and Beverly Morgan of Westlake, Donna and William Barron of Pineville, Mike North of Alexandria, Laura and Steve Lavespere of Pineville, Rebecca and Bill Blanchet of Lafayette, and Bradley and Renee Busch of Lafayette; half sister, Mrs. James Brooke “Ione” Hamilton, II of Lafayette; and son-in-law, Carroll Morgan of Prairieville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two spouses, Tracy C. Wilmoth and Paul C. Marx; one sister, Evelyn Wilson Gueno; and one daughter, Linda Wilmoth Morgan.

MERMENTAU - Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, June 10, at 2 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Rida Mae Kibodeaux, 70, who died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at her residence in Mermentau.
Interment will be in Mermentau Cemetery. The Reverend Thomas E. Habetz will officiate at the services. A rosary was said on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Mrs. Kibodeaux was a native and resident of Mermentau. She loved to babysit her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to play bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Percy Lee Kibodeaux of Mermentau; one son, Adam Kibodeaux of Mermentau; three daughters, Catherine LaSage and her husband Ronald of Carlyss; Brenda Shuff and her husband Terry Sr.; and Carolyn Vincent and her husband Alvin of Mermentau; one sister, Gertrude Gautreaux of Mermentau; two sisters-in-law, Mary Mae Kibodeaux of Midland and Linda Gautreaux of Mermentau; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones, Jamie LaSage, Jonathan LaSage, Terry Shuff, Jr., Joe Shuff, Douglas Shuff, Christy Vincent, Kimberly Harris Kibodeaux and Derek Trahan; and ten great grandchildren.

IOTA - Funeral services for Maudrey Mae Orebo Guillory, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota with Fr. David Broussard officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mrs. Guillory died at 12:20 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 at the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Mrs. Guillory was born in Iota May 25, 1933 to Leonard and Eva Denise Orebo and was a life-long resident. She married Tayo Guillory on Oct. 27, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Marie Guillory of Iota; two sons, Bryan "Scooby" Guillory of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and David Troy Guillory of San Antonio, Texas; six sisters, Leona Hayes of Perris, Calif.; Francis Hill of Los Angeles, Calif.; Nell Mayes and Theresa Ferguson, both of Orange, Texas; Velma Phillips of Beaumont, Texas and Myrtle Grace of Houston; two brothers, Bruce Orebo of Birmingham, Ala. and Herbert Orebo of Carson City, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Horace and Billy Orebo, a sister Eula Dumas, two daughters, Cynthia Charlene Guillory and Lois Jean Guillory, and two sons, Lamont and Reginald Guillory.

Eldes (Shookie) J. Breaux, Sr.
NEDERLAND, TEXAS - Eldes J. "Shookie" Breaux, Sr., 69, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at his residence in Port Arthur.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday June 10, 2004 at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of friends will take place from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A native of Crowley, Louisiana Mr. Breaux moved to the Port Arthur area in 1952 and married Margaret Breaux. He then resided in the area until his death. He was a retired boat captain with Neches Gulf Marine. Mr. Breaux had traveled extensively over the eastern seaboard and the Caribbean until his retirement.

Breaux, Jr. and his wife Trish of Port Neches and John (Bugger) Breaux of Port Neches; daughters, Ellen and Terry Dekerlegand of Mauriceville and Patti and Randy Stout of Winnie; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and numerous relative and friends in Southeast Texas and Louisiana.
Mr. Breaux was preceded in death by his parents, Claudy and Agnes Breaux; son, Calvin Breaux and his wife, Sandra Breaux who passed away in 1995 and granddaughter, Annie Breaux.

Helen Miller Smith
JENNINGS - Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, June 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Evangeline for Helen Miller Smith, 84, who died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Wooldridge Place Nursing Center of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. The Rev. Jules Speyrer will officiate at the services. A rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. by Betty Legros.
Mrs. Smith was born in Jennings and resided in Tee-Mamou for 63 years. She then moved to Lafayette for two years. She has resided in Corpus Christi for the past 14 months. She was an organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church for 20 years and was a member of the Ladies Alter Society. She enjoyed music, gardening and being with her family.
Survivors include her three sons, Aaron Smith of Youngsville; Kenneth Smith and his wife Sue of Houston and Clayton Smith and his wife Melba of Tee-Mamou; two daughters, Judy Gary and her husband Edward of Tee-Mamou and Terri Osborne and her husband Robert of Corpus Christi; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tesaac and Ovena Clement Miller; her husband of 66 years, Gaston Smith and her two sisters, Clara Miller and Evora Smith.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Raymond J. Bertrand
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Raymond J. Bertrand, 62, who died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his residence in Crowley.
Interment will be in Acadia Rest Haven Cemetery in Crowley. Brother Ernest Toepfer will officiate at the services.
Survivors include his mother, Viola Bertrand of Crowley; two brothers, Wilber and his wife Beulah Bertrand of Crowley; and Lenwood Paul and his wife Susie Bertrand of Pineville; one sister, Linda Mae Primeaux and her husband Lyndrus of Crowley; one brother-in-law, John G. Hanks of Crowley; a special companion, Carolyn Rambo of Crowley and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bertrand is preceded in death by his father, Austin Bertrand. He was loved by whoever came into contact with him, especially his deaf friends of the area. He graduated from Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge.

EGAN - Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, June 4, at 3 p.m. at St. Margaret Church in Estherwood for Elizabeth Deshotel, 62, who died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in Estherwood Cemetery. Father Thomas Habetz will officiate at the services.
Survivors include her three sons, James Deshotel of Estherwood; Burley Deshotel, Jr. of Crowley; and Pat Deshotel of Evangeline; one daughter, Dianne D. Hyman of Basile; one brother, Joseph Lejeune of Buccann, Texas; one sister, Corrine L. Deshotel of Basile; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley Deshotel, Sr.; one son, John Edward Deshotel; one step-grandson, Richard Roy; her parents, Colise and Lillian Carrier Lejeune; one sister, Mary Grace L. Reagan and one baby brother.
Visitation began at 5 p.m. on Thursday with viewing until time of service.

Belton Louis Comeaux
Funeral services for Belton Louis Comeaux, 69, will be held at I I a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Crowley with Fr. James Ngyuen officiating. The graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss, LA. Mr. Comeaux died at 6:57 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Belton was born in Mire, LA on October 19, 1934 and was a graduate of Rayne High School. He was a veteran of the Air Force having served stateside during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 15. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and for having lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and golf. He took great pleasure from his horses, having owned, trained, and raced them since 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Lonnie 0. Comeaux of Crowley; three daughters, Vicki Credeur and her husband, Kenneth, of Lafayette, Arlene Spell and her husband, Douglas, of Crowley, and Brenda Venable and her husband, Bill, of Corpus Chrisiti, TX; a son, Dean Comeaux and his wife, Lauri, of Youngsville, LA; a step-son, Chad Lormand and his wife, Joni, of Whitehouse, TX; a step-daughter, Paige Williams and her husband, Kevin, of Sulphur, LA; four brothers, J.C. and Kermit Comeaux, both of Lafayette, Eugene Comeaux of Scott, and Aaron Comeaux of Mire, LA; eight grandchildren, Dawn, Danielle, Duston, Mandy, Brandi, Brian, Derek, and Shelby; four step-grandchildren, Kristen, Jake, Cole, and Cade; and three great-grandchildren, Devin, Alexis and Camryn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Lula Alleman Comeaux, a sister, Sadie Guidry, and a granddaughter, LaDawn Spell.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 and again on Saturday from 8 until I I a.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Friday.

Frances E. Bertrand
MOSS BLUFF - Frances E. Bertrand, 66, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in St. Patrick's hospital.
A native of Crowley, she resided in DeRidder 30 years and has lived the past few years in Moss Bluff. Frances was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of DeRidder where she was a charter member of The Catholic Daughters. She was a present member of St. Theodore Catholic Church of Moss Bluff where she was active in all aspects of the church and was an officer of The Catholic Daughters. Frances retired as a bookkeeper from W.O. Moss Regional Hospital where she worked a number of years.
Survivors include her children, Cammie Goodeaux and her husband, Tony of Ragley; Kent Bertrand and wife, Lavone of DeRidder; Wendell Bertrand and wife, Bridgette of Moss Bluff, Patrick Bertrand and wife, Julie of DeRidder; and Mike Bertrand and wife, Tina of Moss Bluff; brother, Jerry Esiel and wife Donna of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Hunter, Lacy, Eric, Channing, Kaitlyn, Tristen, Brooke and Hayden Bertrand and Cameron Goodeaux; great grandchildren, Coby and Claire, children of Hunter and Mikki Bertrand.
Her funeral will be Friday, June 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. Theodore Catholic Church of Moss Bluff.

Louis H. (Bruce) Broussard
Graveside services officiated by Father Gary Schexnyder will be held Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Crowley for Louis H. Broussard, 91, who died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Southwind Nursing Home.
Mr. Broussard was a resident of Crowley for many years and was the owner/barber at the Rice City Hotel for 31 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from September 13, 1940 until June 13, 1945. While in the service he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Survivors include one nephew, Raymond L. LeBlanc of Spring Valley, Calif.; and one niece, Barbara M. Weinzel of Midland, Texas.

Barbara Abshire Cruze
NEEDLES, CALF. - A memorial services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church for Barbara Abshire Cruze, 59, who died on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Mountain View Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pastor Rev. Rafael Partida will officiate for the services.
Mrs. Cruze was born in Crowley and resided in Bullhead City, Arizona.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony Cruze of Bullhead City, Arizona; three daughters, Melody Harden of Virginia; Mona Judy of Colorado and Christine Cruze of Bullhead City, Arizona; one son, Richard Cruze of Bullhead City; six grandchildren; one brother, Roland Abshire of Olla and one sister Judy Dupuis of Crowley.
She is preceded in death by two daughters, Liza and Carol Courville; two sons, Michael and Robert Cruze and her parents, Ozar Abshire and Beulah Guillot Abshire Vaniel.

Elwood Cormier, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Elwood Cormier, Sr., 75, who died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in Estherwood Cemetery. Father Rusty Richard will officiate at the services.
Mr. Cormier was a veteran of the U. S. Army, he attended McNeese University and was the former owner of Sonic in Rayne and Frog Capital Auto in Rayne.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Guillory Cormier; his son, Justin Cormier; his mother and father-in-law, Calvin and Edmay Guillory, all of Crowley; and many friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Foreman Cormier; one brother Lawrence Cormier and one daughter, Mary Anna Kegler.

BATON ROUGE- Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Green Oaks Memorial Park Chapel in Baton Rouge for Eva Raborn, 99, who died June 1, 2004 in Baton Rouge. Fr. Joe Steffes will conduct the services and burial will be in Green Oaks Memorial Park. A wake will be held Friday from 5-9 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Raborn was born in 1905 in Indian Bayou and a former Crowley resident.
Survivors include her four daughters, Jessie Burr of Tyler, Texas, Erline Chavers of Baton Rouge, Bessie Vickers of Ventress and Iva Shaw of New York City; one son, Victor “Jack” Morgan of Crowley; one sister, Ella gary of Crowley; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Raborn was preceded in death by her first husband Lemuel Morgan, a second husband George Raborn; three daughters, Viola Robinson, Ola Klontz and Opal Perilloux; three brothers and five sisters.

LAFAYETTE – Mrs. Amy Richard, 83, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Our Lady of Fourdes in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point. Burial will be in the Old Church Mausoleum under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

Liza Jo Stelly
LAFAYETTE-Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Liza Jo Stelly, age 98, who died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 9:40 a.m. in the Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor.
Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Abbeville, Louisiana.
The Reverend Keith J. DeRouen, Rector, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Pat Palmer, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel, will sing for the Funeral Mass, “Be Not Afraid”, “On Eagles‚Wing”, “Ave Maria”, “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Amazing Grace.”
A native of Crowley and a resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Stelly first began teaching in 1944. She taught four years at St. Michael’s School in Crowley and through the years taught thousands of children and adults both in Crowley and Lafayette where she moved in 1961. She founded Kiddy Korner Pre School and Learning Center, and wrote the book “Phonics-The Key to Reading and Spelling.”
Mrs. Stelly worked with seven foreign oil executives teaching them to spell, read and write English. She worked with a young blind student, teaching her phonics before entering the school for the Blind.
She took a brain damaged child into her home to live, teaching her until she was rehabilitated. Mrs. Stelly spoke to many religious groups, sharing her marital experiences, her teaching career and about the cancer she had at an earlier year nursing herself into remission.
Being a resident of Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor, Mrs. Stelly volunteered her time to many stroke patients, teaching them to speak again. She was also instrumental in gathering clothes for the poor during her time at “The Oaks.” She always lived by the philosophy, “How can I help someone today.”
Mrs. Stelly was the 1966 Louisiana Business Woman of the Year, going on to be named National Business Woman of the Year. She was honored in the fourth Annual Bishops Charity Ball in 1991. She was a member of the Lafayette Catholic Daughters, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor. She also helped to organize Lafayette's Leur de Music Club. Mrs. Stelly was recently honored in Who's Who of America and was interviewed by the Williams Center of Oral History at L.S.U. about her life in Louisiana and the work she did in education and phonics. Her book on phonics was donated to the Library of Congress during the Clinton Administration to help with President Clinton’s Illiteracy Program across the United States. When being interviewed by the Louisiana Program for Illiteracy, Mrs. Stelly found the young lady to be one of her past students.
Survivors include two children, Summa Lee Stelly and his wife, Pansy Block Stelly of Pensacola, Florida and Alice Jane Stelly Babineaux and her husband, Ben Babineaux of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Kevin Babineaux, Troy Babineaux, Rochelle Babineaux, Bridget Babineaux Foret, John Stelly, Stephan Stelly, Marc Stelly and David Stelly; sixteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Mrs. Stelly was preceded in death by her husband, Curley John Stelly, two children, Jo Ann Stelly and Curley John Stelly, Jr.; her mother, Linnie Caldwell Nussbaum and her father, Louis Nussbaum.
A rosary was prayed Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The Catholic Daughters will also recite a rosary this morning at 10:30 a.m.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass.
Pallbearers will be John Stelly, Walt Stelly, Marc Stelly, David Stelly, Kevin Babineaux, Troy Babineaux, Dez Babineaux and Thomas Foret.
Honorary pallbearers will be Summa Stelly, Bernard “Ben” Babineaux and Stephen Stelly.
The family of Mrs. Stelly wishes to thank all employees of Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor for their loving care throughout the years and to Hospice of Acadiana. Special thanks to Rose, Novella, June and Angela for their loving concerns and care. Mrs. Stelly was always proud of her many friends of all ages, (too many to name but you know who you are). Her riches were her Lord and her beloved family and friends, each one special and remembered with pride in her final days. She leaves us with cherished memories of knowing and loving “Mama Jo.”
